Well, if middlesborough can get to the final so can we. We're in a different class to them. I can see us winning it now, however the CL teams that come in later could provide some danger.

We're in for a good run. At least to the QF.

If this team unfolds like we imagine it, then the Uefa cup will bare our beloved Spurs on it. And with the responses so far, i'm not talkin s-h-it. I gotta tell ya i've never been so excited about a season like this one. Now everything seems possible, even 3rd place.

I expect if we do very well in the UEFA cup, then we'll get another 5th place finish, maybe 6th. It's alot of games we must contend with.

This is the best squad wev'e had since we last won the UEFA.
If Boro can get to the final then we sure can.

If we buy the final two key positions that we all agree we need then I can see us going very far.

Agree. We can win it and we can get third. I don't care what anyone else thinks about that. It's realistic. 3rd place and the UEFA Cup would not even surprise me!

we need to keep going between xmas and easter this time
thats when we always fall off the rails, the pitches become a big more boggy and we suffer , if we keep going strong then we'll be fine as long as we dont have to travel to Kazhakstan or Israel (imminently) then we'll be safe

i expect it to be a culture shock this year. playing in 3 cups and trying to make top 5 in the league will be extremely difficult. the experience will bring us on though. as long as our football progresses i'll be happy.

The UEFA cup is ours for the taking!!!
But a trip to the Millennium Stadium wouldn't go a miss

Apparently Wembley is ready for next year's finals. Not sure about Carling Cup but defo FA Cup.

It was on Sky Sports News yesterday Wembley wont
be ready until next June so Cardiff is still booked for both
cup finals

Oh I must have read it wrong yesterday then....i though it said that it was ready for next year and cardiff wasn't booked, suits me fine anyway, Millenium's like an hour away from me!

The FA say it will be ready. The people building it say it won't.

I don't get it, the Millennium Stadium cost a fraction of what
Wembley is costing & took a fraction of the time, why do
the FA always complicate things?
Welsh Spur

Because, as in every walk of life, we have the wrong people in charge.
When it comes to football, we should have football people in charge. Instead we have people who know little or nothing about the game and are only interested in lining their own pockets.

Point taken. Also the WRU had more to do with it than the FAW
i remember doing work experience at the WRU & going on a tour of
the stadium when it was under progress

That would take some masterful player management by Jol. I'd settle for the UEFA Cup (maybe the League Cup as well ... ;) ) and another top 6 finish in the league.

We have the squad to do that & much more plus £18.6 million to
play with if we buy the right players

Yeah but people are going on about how our squad matches Utd's, Scum's and scousers, so therfore, if this is to be believed then the concept of a top four finish and the Uefa cup is realistic.
Otherwise this means our squad is nowhere near the top 4 and if we do have a middlesbrough-esque run in the UEFA then we'll end up with a league position which resembles theirs last season.
Spur
2nd August 2006, 11:18 AM
But the thing is the UEFA Cup is a load more games. We will be changing our team week in week out, and injuries could hit us hard. Whilst we've the squad to cover this if we had a normal amount of games it will be harder to maintain a f it and winning squad in 4 comps.
Welsh Spur
2nd August 2006, 11:23 AM
Well we'll see what the priorities are when the season's underway.

Hence the Carrick money helping an awful lot to strengthen
even more, a few more additons should put us as top 4
contenders
Welsh Spur

I think we're already top 4 contenders. Any more quality and we'll be pushin the other three all the way. The difference between us and Utd, scum and Liverpool last season was little.
Utd beat us once due to Lee's error
Liverpool beat us once with a wonderstrike
Scum couldnt beat us (in fact we were more likely to beat them, both times!)
So this season I'm expecting the difference to be nothing.

Who do we buy though? We've been linked to Tevez
though nothing new there we always seem to be linked to
a player who's unhappy at their club

yeah no worries there, i think the scum are good for 6 points

i agree mate! with the uefa cup this season and wanting to do a lot better in the domestic cups that means we are gonna be playing a hell of a lot more games than last season. to finish 4th this season and maybe win a cup aswell would be an awesome achievment

This will go as the old Liverpool voodoo went. Remember we had not won at Liverpool for over 30 years since the early 60s, and we eventually broke the duck?

this year i think we CAN win the UEFA cup but actually winning it is another matter. we havent seen much of Jol in cup-scenario's and what he can do but i have faith he will guide us to at least the semi's. on the point about the other cups, i couldnt really care less about the Carling Cup as it is a mid-week cup, as is the FA cup when it gets to the latter stages. im not too bothered about the domestic cups i just want a good league place & UEFA run.

Yeah winning the Carling Cup is just not the same. It's like settling for second best. And United have overtaken us in the "most times won FA Cup" category. That needs to be put right.

That's why I said the FA Cup is our Cup. We should start winning it at least 2 years on the trot.
