Was just on the site and looking through the fanzone section I came across a piece of info that is quite worrying...

TOTTENHAM TOP SCORERS
PLAYER LGE FA CC TOT
Robbie Keane 54 4 4 62
Jermain Defoe 29 4 5 38
Ledley King 7 3 1 11
Jermaine Jenas 6 1 0 7
Aaron Lennon 2 0 0 2
Paul Stalteri 1 1 0 2
Michael Carrick 2 0 0 2
Dean Marney 2 0 0 2

Those are the goalscorers from our current squad. Of course Deano and Carrick have now left, and hopefully Stalteri will join them or at least be demoted to the reserves. So only five of our current squad have scored 2 goals or more... Davids and Teemu have one each, but it really shows that we need more goals from midfield.

Is this where Jenas steps up? Or do we need to bring someone in?

I definitely see Jenas, Zokora and Lennon banging in some this year. As long as Jenas continues his free kicks Lennon goes on his runs and Zokora releases that boot of his, we will be in good shape.

Yeah, I see JJ get at least 10 goals in all competitions, if not more. And Lennon get about the same tally. Tainio will definitely score more goals nexy season, cause he used to at Auxerre and was dissappointed by his goal tally last season...

Don't forget how much the squad has changed in the last two seasons as well - you can't give credit for players that have left, obviously! Don't worry about it, we have enough players with an eye for goal in the team.

zokora's record suggests he won't get many unfortunately.

But hopefully he will release the likes of JJ,Lennon etc. to play with more freedom and get the midfield goals we will need.

I think we'll get more goals from midfield....from JJ and Lennon especially.

2nd August 2006, 09:35 AM
not forgetting our mystery left mid lol. i thought it was odd jol said we had problems on the left last year but now we have ekotto and lee. no mention of ziegler.

Welsh Spur
2nd August 2006, 09:56 AM
I don't think Ziegler will have much of a hope of breaking into the team....everyone who we loan out ends up getting sold on.....

Spur
2nd August 2006, 09:59 AM
But he is back and has featured in pre-season...

Welsh Spur

you could be right, just my opinion....

Spur

Well it's bloody worthless, keep it yourself!!!!

Only joking. (",)

gazzaG8

No one has mentioned Murphey

Welsh Spur
2nd August 2006, 10:20 AM
That's probably coz he won't play....apparently Bolton are going to bid £1-2million for him today.

Spur
2nd August 2006, 10:28 AM
Good bloody riddance I say, that means we will make money on him and he's never even played for us.

Chinaman

zokora's record suggests he won't get many unfortunately.

It will not be too difficult for a mobile player like him to emulate Carrick's 2.

Chinaman
2nd August 2006, 02:45 PM
It'll be good business if we can get 2 million for Murphy as it'll mean that we just paid 500k for a half season insurance of having our midfield covered.

Welsh Spur
2nd August 2006, 03:07 PM
I like him, I'm kinda disappointed he hasn't had a chance, but I don't think we'll miss him if he goes.

gazzaG8
2nd August 2006, 03:22 PM
I don't think he settled

highlander
2nd August 2006, 03:29 PM
Murphy didnt really settle and only plays well when he feels he is wanted at a club and will play week in week out which will never happen for him at spurs.

i expect lennon, tainio and jenas to get a few more this time round. Zokora may get 1 or 2 if we are lucky but that is it, he will not score as many as people are suggesting. he is a holding midfielder and doesnt score for the same reasons as Makelele & Boateng

Welsh Spur
2nd August 2006, 03:34 PM
Tainio's second goal against Inter was shit hot.

gazzaG8
2nd August 2006, 03:42 PM
As long as the midfield supply the front men
we should see bags of goals at the lane

Welsh Spur
2nd August 2006, 03:44 PM
Don't think we'll have a problem with our front men, especially as they all have exceptional and completely different styles of play.

Chinaman
2nd August 2006, 05:42 PM
We'll see all manners of goals this season: long range missiles, benders, aerial bombs, diving headers, tap ins, bicycle kicks and you name it.

TomMcLaren
2nd August 2006, 07:20 PM
That's the kind of opptimism I love!

Don't forget, last season Carrick effectively held, and we didn't get loads from midfield (although better than the year before), so I only expect JJ / Lennon etc to get goals if they remember their shooting boots. And if Zokora is a traditional holding midfielder he's only ever going to pass sideways, unlike Carrick...

Chinaman
2nd August 2006, 07:27 PM
Yes the reason why I've been so optimistic is we now don't have the Crab to slow down our attacks by going sideways all the time. In the 70's, I dubbed Perryman as the Prince of the Square Pass. Indeed Carrick now is the King, not only of the Square Pass, but the Back Pass as well.

Well last year Jenas got 7 in 32 games, that playing along side a mismatched Carrick at times.

Jenas only scored 9 in 110 games for Newcastle. I reckon next year as Zokora plays more defensively, Jenas may well get 10+. I expect Zokora to get 3 or 4, and Taino to get 6+.

if defoe plays regular he will be very close to top scorer,i truly believe this will be his best season for us

gbspur72
2nd August 2006, 10:16 PM
Reckon lennon could get a few as well.

Danishspurs
3rd August 2006, 08:24 AM
Would expect about 3-7 goals from the defence and 20-25 from midfield and 40-45 from the strikers.. alone in the premiership..

Welsh Spur
3rd August 2006, 12:28 PM
In the last year the attitude of players like Keane, Dawson, Robinson and more recently Tainio and Defoe has encouraged me so much.....they want to do well for the club and quite frankly I'm expecting Tainio and Defoe to play like men possessed this season, on a rampage.....

Chinaman
3rd August 2006, 01:46 PM
I think the following tally is well achievable:

Barbie 17
Defoe 16
Keane 16
4th guy 6

Jenas 10
Taino 5
Lennon 4
Zoko 3
Routy 2
Ghaly 2
Ziegler 2
Hudds 2

King 3
Daws 3
Gardner 2
Ekotto 1
Lee 1

Another 5 goals for the fringe players.

gazzaG8
3rd August 2006, 02:10 PM
I'd have Defoe down for at least 20,
he has Berbs & Keano up front with him
(providing Jol keeps it that way) So we should see his
tally break the 20+ barrier

Chinaman
3rd August 2006, 02:20 PM
I'm assuming we play 442 mostly and 433 occasionally and that the top 3 forwards are rotated roughly the same. Any combination totally 55 goals from the strikers would be a good and achievable return.

gazzaG8
3rd August 2006, 02:25 PM
Yeah i think against Birmingham at one point
Berbs, Defoe & Keane just playing off them was how Jol had it.

If that worked in the league we're laughing all the way to the
Champions League!!!

JJ
3rd August 2006, 02:38 PM
I remember Sheringham and Armstrong getting near 50 between themselves one season. Defoe, Keane and Berbatov should get a good 130/140?

:D

Chinaman
3rd August 2006, 02:50 PM
Defenses were not as tight in those days.

Welsh Spur
3rd August 2006, 03:25 PM
I reckon in all competitions Defoe and Berbatov will grab 20+ each.

Keane should weigh in with around 15, and I expect the midfielders to get 20 between them. I'd be happy with that.

JJ
3rd August 2006, 03:27 PM
Defenses were not as tight in those days.

Are you implying that Chris Armstrong wasn't the greatest striker that ever lived?

;)

Welsh Spur
3rd August 2006, 03:34 PM
To think that guy cost us £4.5million. And that was back in the day.

JJ
3rd August 2006, 03:37 PM
Could be worse, we could have done a Newcastle and bought Warren Barton for £4.5 million.

Welsh Spur
3rd August 2006, 03:39 PM
Or Ben Thatcher, for £5million. Oops!

JJ
3rd August 2006, 03:40 PM
Or Dean Richards for ... was it £8million or 7?

Welsh Spur
3rd August 2006, 03:45 PM
Doesn't matter....that's £7 or 8 million too much!!!! :p

JJ
3rd August 2006, 03:49 PM
How much was Chris Perry? £5ish mil?

Welsh Spur
3rd August 2006, 03:58 PM
That's another poor purchase. Christ we've had to put up with some crap over the years....

To think Francis saw Armstrong as a replacement
for Klinsmann, granted he got his fair share
(including the winner against the scum that season)
but he's wasn't in Klinsmann's league

JJ
3rd August 2006, 04:02 PM
Yeah, some real shockers... :/

Welsh Spur
3rd August 2006, 04:02 PM
Klinsmann is a legend, and my favourite spurs player ever! I think Berbatov can be as good.

Well i don't think old Gerry 'Werewolf head' Francis was the best manager we've ever had.

Well Berbs talks a good game, especially about
scoring the winner against the scum.

Oh God, here we go again.:)

Chris Jones was a maestro back in the twenties. I saw him live when I was knee high to a grasshopper. Football eh, it's the greatest game in the world you know, jumpers for goalposts, mm, eh.

I've never heard of him buddy, but I'm sure you're going to fill me in. And what about Greavsie, Lineker, Klinsmann?

TomMcLaren
3rd August 2006, 08:12 PM
There's not much chance that Berbs and Defoe will get 20+ each in the Prem, can't underestimate how hard it is to score that many Prem goals in a season. In all competitions, should be doable as long as we stay in the cups.

What about Sheringham?

JJ

Chris Jones came through the ranks to play striker in the 70s. I think he played for the first team for about 5 years. Not really skillful and not a prolific scorer. Quite mobile as a target man though.

Second to Klinsmann. Notice they both loved the club so much they had to come back for a second spell. Two of my favourite ever players.

Before you ridicule me remember I have been a 'die-hard' Spurs fan since only 1994. But they also won the first football match I ever saw, the 1991 F.A Cup final. I think my support stems from there, but signing Klinsmann got me hooked on the mighty lilywhites!

COYS!

Same here, it was the signing of Klinsmann that got me excited about spurs, then my dad took me to the lane and I made my decision. I've been a die hard myself too ever since.

My support stems from the beguinning of the 91 season
8 years of age thinking the sun shines out of Paul Gascoigne's arse
Hence my screen name

According to Andy Townsend, a window cleaner once saw exactly what shines out of Gazza's arse, as he used to sometimes play snooker naked! :D Of course, Andy was the one more embarrassed and was making geticulations of 'NO' and 'Gazza's crazy' to the window cleaner, to make sure he didn't think anything was going on.
