I was at the lane yesterday and i must say i was dissapointed. The team looked good but the support was dissapointing. For the best part of half and hour it was like a ghost town...i was just waiting for the hay to roll by. There were sprays of shouts at different parts of the stadium but nothing harmonious and no unity amongst the fans...i think in the end the most voiceferous amongst us became slightly disillusioned and frustated. Are we turning out to be prawn sandwich eating fans ? Well it deffinately felt like that at the east end. I heard more screams from 5 years olds than any other so called lifelong spurs supporting adults. There was sadly more criticisms than support. It is very disheartening and dissapointing. Whats going on ? is it just me or what.

My hope is for spurs to be one of the most intimidating stadiums if not in england, but also in europe ( Look at the support at teams like Boca Juniours, Corinthians, Galatasaray, Feyenoord - i mean thats what i call intimidating and thats what i would call support - fans in unison throughout the match). I remember back in the 80's when i started going to the lane with my dad, the support was unbelievable throughout. Whether it was against watford or arsenal - the support was defeaning and electrifying and we really got behind the whole team. Where has this all gone ?

My judgement is not only on the basis of yesterday game, albeit it was only a friendly , but we were playing Inter Milan (one of the biggets clubs in the world) - i think they would have gone back after yesterday and said yeah White Hart Lane ..its a nice stadium, plenty of fans but i think they were all abit hungover or something. Irrespective of whether it was a friendly or not against carlisle or Barcelona...the spurs support should be scarring the living daylights out of the opposition players and fans alike. Whats happened ?

If this has all gone/been sacrificed for the sake of making the stadium a safer place, more gender equal, kids and families coming to the lane for a picnic because they are no more tickets for 'over the hedge' at the cinema etc etc.....Well my answer to this would be to bring back the stands, lower the ticket prices so we can get back the true spurs support of the yesteryears.

Furthermore, i used to remember that there were more songs for most of the players on the team. Now its just songs for the faves...robinson,keane,defoe....how would the rest of the team feel ??? If i was a spurs player i'll feel like c**p playing infront of the fans. Whatever i do right....i only will get criticised for the things that don't go my way. And poor old Tainio...carried the game for us yesterday and the only support he got from us was shouts of 'Shhoooottt' 'Shhoooottt''.....ridiculous. I remeber even Pat van Den Hauwe used to get a song from us....and he wasn't by far the best Spurs player in the team in those days.

So come one tottenham...stop doing what we are always good at, which is criticising till the cows come home ( It is not that easy playing football you know, doesn't mean you play for your local pub team and had scored last Sunday - you are now the next keano or defoe - so cut the players some slack and start showing some support - irrespective of whether they make mistakes or not). This is potentailly the best Spurs team/squad for a long long time - all we need now is to try and get back the best supporters in the world.

If you guys are not up to it...i say bring back your dads/granddads to the stadium to show you how its really done/.

P.s i suggest watching some of the older videos and taking some notes.
And oh yeah...leave your prawn sandwiches at home the next time aswell.

could not agree more i was saying to my m8 who i tock down the lane for the game its not the right ground well defernetly not the right stand it was well silent for the most part and yes i think i heard more 5 year old kids screaming coys than any lifer it picked up a bit when the first goal went in but it was soon back to a silent match i was for one surprised that i still had some voice left when i came out after the final whistle the last timei was down was for the portsmouth game. When iwalked out the ground that night "after arriving 30mins l8 due to the bus getting lost" i couldnot talk at all i was so hors it was unberlivable.
Could itjust be that we are saving ourselves for the long seasson ahead i hope so
Long live the true fan

In response your comments are more than fair..I attend home games and most away..and we have some of the most vocal fans in the country....however this like a lot of friendlies attracts fans that cant or dont visit the lane that often as well as the regulars..often with kids and ist time spurs followers...as I was travelling to the game this was apparent as a lot of people had obviously not been before.

I'm sure once the real stuff starts the lane will be as vocal as ever..but will never b like the old days..no ground will...seats saw to that...

its so,etimes difficult for groups of mates to arrange to sit together for a game unless they r season ticket holders in the same area or get the seats together as members etc..on a terrace you could develop songs with the same people week in week out....the football experience has changed..not all for the better and i would love to get together with like minds and work on new chants etc ...we still have the best fans ....and when we travel always loud

The friendly against Inter was a day out for families. You don't fill the stands with proper fans, just parents and kids who wanted to watch a game for £25 or less.

You can't complain that a friendly atmosphere is poor, there is nothing at stake.

Last season the fans at the lane was the best atmosphere for years,i too go most away games and the yids travel very well and are very vocal, yesterday was not brilliant but you cant blame the fans for singing at individual players as times at the lane now are very exciting and we are showing our appreciation to certain players, and yes there were lots of kids about yesterday which was a family day for loads of parents.when the season starts you will notice a huge difference trust me people

How right you are.Never go to friendlies myself, but with my season ticket in the Park Lane i know that when the real stuff starts the support will be there just as noisy as ever, only this season even better because hopefully the Paxton will make some noise before we score not just after.

People bringing their kids for a the first time on a nice sunny day during the summer for their 1st game at the Lane are hardly the prawn sandwich brigade

Most of them probably can't get 2 many tickets for the normal season let alone 3 or 4 together for the kids. It's a fun day out. A chance to run your eye over the new signings.
In many ways judging by the size of the crowd for a freindly it shows the fan base that we have is not a fantasy but is real. That's loyalty.

Yes the stadium and the atmosphere has changed and after being a season ticket holder in the Paxton upper before it was rebuilt for two years and in the lower since. I'm still getting to know the people around me.

Think you hit the nail on the head there - it wasn't in my season ticket book, and I reckon lots of regulars didn't want to go, leaving tickets available for first timers and non-regulars. With nothing at stake, it's not important anyway - don't complain, we made a load of cash through a full stadium and ticket sales! Friendlies are always like that - the only electric atmosphere at a friendly I remember was Davids debut against Porto last year, that was special.

You can't complain that a friendly atmosphere is poor, there is nothing at stake.could not agree more . the bloke in front of me in park lane had 3children and his wife normal match day it would be priced out of his range . he was without any doubt a true spurs fan with his family for the day . who knows his children might go up there in later years with their children

make up songs for everyone on the team then, post them on here and we will all sing them at the next game.

fans favorites are favorites for a reason, they play well and the fans acknowledge this, why bother making up and singing a song for someone like gardner (who in my opinion is toilet) when he doesnt perform?

the 20 grand a week they are pocketing im sure will help them sleep better at night rather than a shite song

Point taken guys....

I think my earlier post was also based on reflection of some of the games i went to last season. There seemed to be an awful lot of negativity towards players when they are not doing too good. And sometimes you could even tell the players feel quite uncomfortable with it all and despite their experience, the fact that they earn quite a fair bit and probably go through some mental programming on how to handle pressure etc...its still quite difficult for them , as they are only humans afterall. So this really annoys me sometimes..i mean instead of slagging off the players...just show abit more encouragament and support right ? And the sad thing is most of the criticisms are coming from people who only played footie at the park with a bunch of their mates when they were 11 yrs old.

Anyhow appologies for the ranting and raving....just needed to get some stuff off my chest. Thanks for listening and for the posts. Despite the pain from some sections...the majority of the yids are superb. I'm proud of us.

P.s Lets sing some songs for the other players in the team (apart from the usual keano, defoe and robbo).....what do you boyz reckon ?

I noticed that Spurs fans seem to be a lot more eager to watch the game and the events unfolding which takes more concentration, this can make you forget to chant, rather bite finger nails instead. You may find that there are a lot of new fans that take time to learn the chants and find their voices.
Lets see what happens when the season gets underway.

When I went to the Villa game back in Feb, I think it was, there was more apprehension than anything else. The crowd were literally crapping themselves.

I think we can only expect more of this and the chanting will be stepped up a notch for when we play some good stuff before scoring a couple of great goals.

Yes. I was watching the Bolton game towards the end of the season and it was not a nice experience, I was jumping up and down throughout, chewing any bit of fingernail I had....
