Confirmed on the OS. Peter Crouch is a tottenham hotspur player. Thoughts?

I for one am pleased, think him and defoe will do well. What about poor Keano? :crying:

Keane and Crouch could in theory put together a decent partnership too.

None of you care about Pav but you care so much for a guy who was quick enough to stab us in the back. Typical.

Welcome Crouchy. I hope he gets a kind enough welcome, and I think given the chance he could do a decent enough job. Crouch, Defoe, Keane and Pav is hardly a poor strike force for next season, the common sense now would be to sell Bent and bring in a centre back

Not my ideal signing, but as with anyone who wears our shirt, I shall back him, and hope he does really well.

Defoe will have to learn to moonwalk now to outdo him in the goal celebrations dances

Well he's joined us.

I can't say I'm particularly excited, but neither am I dissapointed. I think we could have pushed the boat out and really made an effort for a Huntelaar or a Negredo, but it's a sign of the times that instead of being in a position, both financially and footballing-wise where we can attract European stars as we have in recent years, we must try to consolidate our position with tried and tested players.

Crouchy is most certainly a proven Premiership and International striker. His sheer unique physicality makes him difficult to play against, and can cause problems for defenders in the box. He's able to hold up the ball and is suprisingly apt with the ball at his feet. Not spectacular, but well enough to hopefully provide knock downs and flick ons to the likes of Keane and Defoe. And hopefully get his head or one of his ungainly appendages to one of Lennon's or Modric's crosses / chipped through balls.

I still think that given the chance that Pav will prove to be twice the player that Crouch is, but I'm not sure he's going to get that chance now. Harry has his two boys from Portsmouth back, and he'll be happy with himself because of it. I can't shake the feeling however that having gone from one of the best pairings in the league in Keane and Berbatov, we've gone utterly backwards to Defoe and Crouch.

Because let's face it, that's the partnership Harry's been wanting ever since he arrived here. Keano was a happy accident for him, and I don't think he could care less about Pav and would flog him at the drop of a hat. Which like I said is unfair, because Keane and Pav would form a good partnership I reckon.

It's just a sign of the (limited(?)) ambition under Harry that we look like we're aiming for mid-table stability rather than top 6 by just settling for a "dependable" player rather than a much better one. We're just not going to get anywhere special under Harry I'm afraid. We'll be steady, but not spectacular.

Defoe has been quoted in the paper's however as saying that Crouch offers us good options away from home, especially tough games like Bolton or Everton etc. If you need a no nonsense forward who can be the target man when we need to go long ball or just throw crosses into the box, he'll be important.

At the end of the day, I don't think we've improved ourselves drastically, but given the nature of the market it does represent good business. I just think whatever we get for Bent should have been invested in 1 or two CB's and another tough CM (NOT Viera btw )

3 forwards in Keane, Defoe and Pav would have been fine to me.

As the cliche goes a good touch for a big guy. The most pleasing things is a jd-crouch partnership= goals goals goals!!

Negedo and huntelaar are just exotic names that fans like to wank over. :stupid:

Harry has seen Pav almost everyday in training so he's in a far better position to judge and Keano and Pav looked crap together last season.

Pav has been a big let down and if anything showed a lack of ambition it was settling for Pav last summer when truth be told he was very average at the Euros and not getting Arshavin who was the one of the players of the tournament. Arshavin was attainable and at one point wanted to come Huntelaar wasn't and didn't. When we signed Pav I thought aaawwww fvck alot like people are with Crouch now because Pav although talented is a lazy inconsistent fecker.

I think our current squad is well equipped to go up against shitty and the scum this season. Crouchy gives us a whole other dimension upfront and adds some height to our increasingly midget attack.

All these people that are depressed about Crouch will be loving him come Christmas time.

Crouchy will definately get us 15 goals! with crap crosses from lennon and sometimes modric...he is so tall that he will still manage to reach them!

i werent ecstatic about him but i have a good funny feeling that he will do better than our so called big names as his record has been impressive recently.

Shame our academy staff got it wrong and released him early and lost us 8.5 million.

at the start i thought we could and would do better but thinking about it, id say im pleased at how things have turned out. Crouch and Defoe work, simple as, that will create goals and definately score goals. also i think its a bit wierd that now we've signed a strike partnership for roughly £25million, around half what we got for Berbs and Keane. im not saying that JD & Crouch r better or as good as Keane & Berbs but i think that represents fairly good business

When we were linked with crouch I was in the "please no camp".
However now I'm trying to pull the positives out of signing him and having watched some clips of him on utube I have to admit he is a better player then I gave him credit for and Now that he is here I will be one hundred percent behind hoping he gets goals and help us win games, I could never hope a spurs player fails just because I didn't want him.

On another note I too was in" the let's get our annual foreign striker in" camp also, however after giving it some thought I'm actually not too bothered we haven't taken that route again. We need to hit the ground running , we don't have time for settling in periods for players.

I'm hoping this could be one of those signings which some of us didn't want but turns out to be one which take us where we want to be.

I can't say that I am unhappy about Crouch. Obviously Crouch and Defoe have a solid history together, however I think that Crouch and Keane may be the best pairing when all is said and done.
