id like to hear people opionion, as many spurs fans still call campbell a judas... after he gave the club so many years and pleaded with them to buy quality players .. they kept buyin 1 player per season.. and were never gona win or acheive anything... if i were a sports man in a sport like football where ur only employed to play for lets say 10 to 15 years.. i would consider my options.. i would wana acheive some thing...any thouts...

With Sol, he could have pretty much gone anywhere in the world, and he had come through the ranks with Spurs which is what made his move that much more unthinkable. With Carrick i can understand his desire to want to go to one of the "big" teams, maybe hes pissed off he didn't get more of a chance for England and feels going to Utd will solve that, who knows?

I personally don't have the hatred that some people have for Carrick, he's made a mistake and he'll realise that soon enough.

yeh i agree with that. man u is seen as a big team but i don't think he will get as many games as he did at spurs n will then want to move again when e is stuck on the subs bench.

This is a "we're manu and we have to get someone" panic buy.

When he first got into the team i liked him, whereas others around me moaned that he was not a Hoddle, Ginola, Waddle, Gazza, Ardiles etc etc.

Now, if long suffering supporters of an under achieving team with even longer memories take time to even warm to a player with undoubted talent. He is going to find it extremely hard going @ OT with their recent history.

Within 4 years it'll be the return of the prodigal son when he go's back home to newcastle.

When he comes to WHL just ignore him, he's history and we've moved on

First of all Judas moved to Scum, which is unacceptable.. Second of all he had the chance to tell the board that he didn't wanted to extend his contract and be sold for about 15 mill, but no, he kept the board waiting and moved for nothing.. At least MC had the balls to tell the board that he wanted to get away, so me could make some money on him..

I think Carrick was a rather limited player, very good at a smallish set of skills - £15mm? I think we got away with daylight robbery!

Differences between Scum Campbell and Carrick:
1. Sol joined our worst enemies having been the heart and soul of the club, including club captain. Carrick had one great season and joined Man Utd, which only annoys Spurs fans living in Surrey.
2. Sol left for free, when we could have sold him the year before for a lot of money. Carrick left for £15mm.
One other thing they may share in common - Carrick is from the North, as was Barmby - what happened to him again? Hull City was it? Campbell is a has been at 30. Nuff said.

totally different circumstances and we have benefited greatly , he hasnt made our club look bad or been bitching in the papers and has given us a great amount of additional transfer funds you simply cant compare what that piece of scum did 5 years ago to carrick.

Exactly.

For the little that it is now worth, I really rate Carrick as a player and am still confident that he will blossom into a great midfield player. He's no Hoddle or Waddle, granted, but who is?

I wish he'd stayed with us, if for no other reason as I hoped he and Zakora would have formed quite the partnership. He hasn't, but we need to move on. Carrick made no erroneous media pledges to stay (a la arSol), didn't con the board into a years wages for no return and has, to be fair, maintianed a dignified silence throughout.

I think he's jumped the cruise ship to join the sinking one, but that is his problem - I think his return to WHL should be met with indifference as opposed to the deserved and righteous vitriol that met rSol.

Really guys, Carrick may have shown MJ a degree of disloyalty, but we can't even begin to compare his to the treachery and scummery that that **** Rsopl showed...

Absolutely no comparison for me. I don't know why people are so mad at Carrick. He wanted to leave to go closer to home, it wasn't about wages because he's now on 40,000 a week as opposed to the 50,000 a week we offered him, and it is great business for us.

Maybe some people are taking it as a personal insult to the club or something, I don't know. But as I've said I don't think it was about that or money. And as people rightly said he didn't come out with bullshit comments about staying, lie to the board and then **** the club over financially... oh, and don't forget he didn't cap it all off by joining our bitter rivals.

Sol ****ed the club over in every possible way he could have. Carrick did nothing except leave to another big club where he's closer to home and straight into CL action. In my opinion it's actually ideal for us, 15-18 million and better replacements. Don't know why people want to call him ****.

In my opinion he doesn't owe Jol more than gratitude. Jol believed in him and played him, but you can be sure if he didn't perform he'd have been back in the reserves. Maybe that's harsh, but that's football. After all Santini was a donkey not to not give him a chance in the first place.

To me there's a boundary in which certain transfer behaviours and actions in football are understandable, even if you don't like them, and some are ****ish. In short Sol Campbell is a **** and Carrick is not.

And even if I thought Carrick was slightly ****ish I wouldn't give a shit anyway, because I think we're more than covered and it represents sterling business for the club.

I'd be disappointed if he was booed at the lane, because it would take meaning away from the abuse handed out to those who really deserve it: people like Sol Campbell, Arjen Robben, Robbie Savage and other ******s.

That's my penny's worth anyway.

spot on .
i even quite liked duff for saying that after playing for chelsea then he couldnt have played for spurs , cos of the fans and the rivalry that he understood , and hes not even a local boy .as a supporter i like that passion in a player even though it maybe a loss to spurs that he didnt come .

Some other things to mention, the state of our club during each transfer.
We had done nothing for years, were becoming miles away from the Scum in terms of success and development, Judas joining them was like kicking a man in the balls once he was down after a beating.

As for Carrick he just made us a possible 15 million after 2 years. He's not a Judas just a whore that made our pockets nice and fat. I bear no malice towards him, he will do well for The Manchester Gatorade Rowdies, but in the grand scheme of things he will not be a huge loss.

The Manchester Gatorade Rowdies... haha!

I also have no grudge, we got good money, and agree with Tom(Steve?)McLaren about his limited ability.
I don't think we'll miss him much and can use his funds to further strengthen other areas. Good business for DL, MJ and Tottenham Hotspur FC.

I don't think the situations can be compared. Sol went to the Scumbags and for nothing, he's a proper arsehole.

Carrick has simply sold out. That is all. And we got £10million (if the transfer fee hits £18.6M) more than he's even worth for him. In a way, it's like he's left us a parting gift, and a bloody good one at that.

Judas held the club to ransom, Carrick was honest
with the board & Jol he said it wasn't about money.
We should be thankful that he doesn't have the same greedy streak in him as
so many players do these days Rio, Joey Barton,Duff i could go on
they are all money grabbing ****s with money grabbing agents.
At the end of the day the transfer kitty has been boosted by
nearly £19 million so it shouldn't be an issue with Carrick being anything like that **** judas

There's no comparison between the two. Sol was a mean, calculated bastard who did a bad turn to the club that found and developed him, all for selfish reasons. Carrick wanted to go, yes and did not show the loyalty expected. However he did us a favour in not publicly declaring he wanted to go as that would have made the club's position untenable and we would have to sell him for much less.

Totally agree - good money, not a world beater. We should try Huddlestone, buy Chimbonda and Downing and still be quids in. Shifting Murphy & Reid would also be acceptable to me.

16 million profit ain't bad, besides no player is bigger than the club! I think it shows how scared utd are of us that they had to buy one of our better players for 18 mill .

On sky his stats were 6 assists and 2 goals. So basically he defended all season . Zokora can do that !

Have faith in Jol and Levy. Won't it be funny when we finish above utd .

We will do well, and who exactly do you see leaving? Everybody seems committed and let's face it, Carrick was never Mr.Tottenham....how else would you miss the chance to make yourself a Spurs legend by slamming the ball in at the end of that lovely run against Arsenal....

He says it's a footballing decision and that's a slap in the face to us as fans, even though he's credited MJ as being a great coach for him, how nice would it be as that coach to hear from a player you've transformed that he's leaving because 'this team isn't as good as ManUre, and I don't care if it's going to be either, I'm off'.

I'll say thanks to him for two years of mostly good performances and his help in bringing our team along, but he wasn't going to get any better here and the players we've got now will take us that step further, that Carrick couldn't. And I especially thank him for all that wonderful cash.
