seriously..!? i hvnt seen this, but if thats the case thats bad; surely we must be at least an attractive option as them & would be able to pay more wages... this transfer window i think is going to be extremely disappointing

Both those clubs offer CL football. We dont even offer Europa League unfortunately.

The last 3 2 season we have taken big steps back and unfortunately we need to lower the expectation bar. I'll be happy with getting Europa League next year.

i suppose i'm still living in those days past when spurs were an attraction to most players. it's disappointing to realise that we no longer can bring in any of the elite. i wouldv'e loved a midfield of modric/palacious/joe cole etc..and a huntlaar up front. i wouldn't care if we never purchased another player this summer other than those two,and i would like to think we have the funds to do it... but obviously we now hope for too much.

i would understand if he went to marseille because there a big club but stugart :huh: if he goes there instead of us then its official, we are not a big club anymore.

i doubt he will though

you lot are mental if you think any big player wants to play for harry.

id be suprised if any of the big name players in europe have ever heard of harry redknapp.

he is known for buying other peoples dross and players who are 2 old and getting something of them for a season or 2

Not to Gareth Barry it aint!

You can imagine the phone call between Barry and Hughes, something akin to Tom Cruise in Jerry Maguire...'show me the money'...poor Rafa, on the other line, was on hold!!!

and huntelaar doesnt want to join us so whats the point. I'd like players that are [proud to wear the shirt!

That's fans talk. I'll take players with ability, character, professionalism and intelligence.

Celtic aren't great payers so I doubt the money played a great part. Mowbray recruiting a former player would have been a bigger draw.

Totally agree mate, however, we have some on here who think that since we offer fantastic salaries and being in lively London, we will attract such players.:001_rolleyes:

The 50 Best Paid Footballers in the World
By: Daryl | February 28th, 2008

Prepare to be jealous. And if you’re Darren Bent then prepare to be embarrassed. A Portuguese finance website recently released a list (below) of the 50 highest earning footballers in the world, and the exact amounts they pocket for playing (in €uros.) No video game or hair gel endorsements are included, just the annual amount each player receives in salary.

Top earner is Ricky Kaka, who pulls in nine million euros a year from Milan. Because he’s worth it. Ronaldinho comes a close second, getting just over eight and half million euros. He used to be worth every penny. There are one or two shocks too, and one or two players who aren’t exactly earning their money. Does Darren Bent really deserve to be the 19th best paid footballer in the world?

1. Ricardo Kaka (AC Milan) 9.000.000 €
2. Ronaldinho Gaucho (FC Barcelona) 8.520.000 €

United, City, Pool, Arse, Chelsea, Milan, Juve, Inter, Roma, Barca, Madrid, Atleti, Valencia, Munich, Stuttgart, Lyon, Marseille, Porto, Zenit, CSKA Moscow, Newcastle(next season will be a blip).

Nothing like 50 but it puts us outside the top 20.

Judging by the details of this story - "Jermaine Pennant's switch to Real Zaragoza earns him '£80,000 a week'" - you can add in another 10 Spanish clubs.

I remember the discussion about this when it was published, but Bent's wages are clearly wrong. Firstly, he's not the club's top earner, secondly he appears to be earning more than Luca Toni, who was on about 90k a week at Munich, and not much less than Owen, who was on 110k a week. He's on about half of the figure credited to him, about 45k a week.

Alot of them russian clubs are paying top dollar to

Arshavin was on a very high salary at Zenit iirc

and the German league too now is attracting alot of good players with high salaries

I wouldn't be suprised if we were outside the top 40 or there about

Indeed,didn't Arse-shaving recently go blubbing to the Arsenal board about how he wanted to double his wages because he was paying so much tax?.

He certainly did. 50% tax doesn't look to attractive does it? Who realistically other than Citeh are in a position to offer net wage guarantees?

oh dear peter you've quoted a load of rubbish. :scared: :thumbdown:

To believe that shows unbelievable levels of ignorance.

Bent earning more than robben and eto...is something only an idiot would believe.

To put it simply our wage bill last season was £52m so with 50% tax the players are taking home £26m in wages.

For other teams to exceed that than they'd have to a total wage bill above £30m (beause 23%tax would give an overall wage bill of £23m).

To exceed this fugure you'd need to have a turnover of about £50m because clubs abroad dont tend to have wages: turnover above 50% wheras in the prem the average is closer to 60%. If you look at last seasons annual turovers you'll see there are barely 20 clubs in the top 2o with a turnover above £50m (and we are more attractive than westham and newcastle both in the top 20)
http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2007/feb/08/newsstory.sport8

Like I said its nothing like 50 clubs its probably somewere between 20-30.

and pennant is on £80,000 a week they just promoted and even with lower taxes he isnt earning taking that much. According to what I heard on SSN he is taking £6.4m (might have been euros) over 3 years so per year thats just over £2m which after tax is about £35k per week. They've smashed the wage structure for him its a strange one a bit like zokora going for £7-8m.

So to summarise look at total wage bills take 50% off that gives us £26m currently and find clubs with wage bills that exceed £30m (because the tax is lower approx 20%).
You'll find there arent 50 clubs in europe with an annual wage bill over £30m.

on ahd anyone that believes darrent bent is out top earner is a fool. :sleep:

A summary of Pennant's wages(he also got a free villa and car):

"Zaragoza will pay £9,200 a week in taxes on behalf of Pennant, as they have guaranteed him take-home pay of £40,000 a week. In England, where players tend to be paid gross and, as of April, the tax rate for high earners stands at 50%, Pennant would have needed a salary of £80,000 a week to match what he will now get."

Where do I actually state that I believe such figures, I only copied and pasted, so obviously the ignorance must lie on the one who cannot read properly. You originally stated we were withiin the top twenty and now between 20-30. The idiot must be the one who cannot understand that not being in Europe, not paying the best salaries and paying more tax is not a great attraction. :001_rolleyes: I would not be surprised that we are closer to being in the top forty. To finish off, I am pasting a few comments by our chairman Daniel Levy

.Daniel Levy (Annual Report 2006);

"The Club’s re-entry to European competition marks a milestone that we have all been working towards for the last five years."

Daniel Levy (Annual Report 2007);

"We generated operating profits at 31% of turnover, a position that highlights the impact that further European football and more live games can have on the current business model. It remains a priority of the management to ensure that it remains so, in order to continue to grow the business over the years as we embark on capital projects and continue to invest in the infrastructure of the Club and the team"

"Notable increases in TV revenues on both a domestic and international basis and as a result of the Clubs increased coverage in European competition"

"Largely driven by the Club competing on four fronts both domestically and in Europe. Turnover rose by 39% on last year from £74m to £103m.

"The Club is performing as a cash-generating business, increased to £32m, which underlines the importance of Europe"

Daniel Levy (Annual Report 2008);

"The Club’s position in domestic and European competition is important in attracting and developing exciting young talent."

Daniel Levy (Interview 2008);

"We recognise the need to secure further European competition next season and to continue to do so on a consistent basis."

BTW, this will be my last post with regards to this topic.
