I am guessing that Barca would surely entertain suitable offers for the guy?
I always rated him and think he could be a great foil for Defoe? Not sure what age he is? 29/30?
If we are letting 2 strikers go he would certainly be worth getting as a cheaper option to have - at the very least an option from the bench.
Surely we could pinch him for 4-6 mil say?
Thoughts?

Really underrated player, and was important for Chelsea. He's never going to get a look in at barca so he may come.
I'd snap him up if we have to lose a couple of ours.

I agree, would take him in a flash.... very underrated, and proven at Premiership level as well.

Proven goalscorer at all levels, id take him 100% at the expense of Bent.

Had a cracking partnership with Jimmy. Never suited Centre Mid, IMO. Was a mistake to pull him back.
Get him in, cheap alternative and still a good player.

CLASS player that should never have been bought by Barca because they play 433 only meaning Eider can't play ANY of those positions well enough. He is a guy that plays second striker very well, but can't play anywhere else, so that is why that he is available at a steal.
Sign him already.

I don't want to ruin that, sign him up. Do you reckon he's the richest man in Iceland?

Hopefully Mr.Levy will book himself a seat on the Easyjet to Barcelona a bit pronto. This is exactly the signing that we should be making, not RVN.

Meh. 5 years ago:  But now..... meh. Where would he play? He's not fit enough for cm in the prem, and he surely wouldn't play ahead of Defoe/Keane?

Woops :001_rolleyes: iPod typing is tricky.
And to be honest I would rather have Pavlyuchenko or Bent up front than Gudjohnsen, I really don't think he could cut it in England anymore.

based on what. He hardly played at Barca. In the prem he formed an excellent partnership with JFH. I could see him forming a good partnership with almost any of our strikers because even more than keane he is a link man a second striker.

If we bought gud for £4m and sold keane for £15m I'd be delighted.
There isnt much between the 2 players but when forming a partnership with jd gud would be the better option.

I agree.
Would get on with anyone up top.

I'm just wondering weather or not Gudjohnsen would score anywhere near the amount of goals that robbie does. Also keane scores important goals away from home and his workrate is influencial.
But can Keane get his old form back? Do we really need him? Is this a perfect time to sell?
I'm not sure, I'm a fan of Gudjohnsen but its a tough one to call.

Keane's not going so this is nothing more than academic.
"if lennon is injured go 433 with keane+defoe+gud with mod in a 3"
You'd get nothing doing that. You'd have no real width, no power, little pace and fail to cause any problems for the opposition. You'd be playing a lot of neat football in front of the opposition that would create nothing, much like under Ramos last season.
Also note that at Pompey from Feb 2008, in 12 games Defoe started 11 of them with a big man, either Baros or Kanu, then Crouch was brought in the next season. Conclusion: Harry knows Defoe works best with a tall striker in a 4-4-2.

Spot on it won't work mod, keane and gud would all get in eachothers way. No wingers at all and very easily to play against.

Keane or Gudjohnsen? Bye bye Robbie.
He's no Robbie Keane, what's his record? Great link man, so is Robbie, Robbie scores more too though.
He'd be an adequate replacement.
My opinion is Keane, Defoe or Gudjohnson all need a big man to play off to see the best of them. And then are all deadly when you see the best of them.
And the one that is capable of being the deadliest is clearly Robbie Keane.
Why cut off your nose despite your face in premature Gomes type evaluations?

Keane is way superior to Gudjohnsen, replacing Keane with him would be a huge step backwards.

As an out and out striker??
Keane is off form, so who knows. If this season is anything to go by, then its probably Darren Bent.
Eider would be a fantastic signing, maybe not a first-team-starter-of-every-game but definately a high end squad player. Could do some serious damage from the bench imo
4mill? Bargain. If Pav or Bent was to go, he would be my first choice (obviously after the ungettable players - eg RVN Huntelaar etc) replacement.

He is, but what I meant was he'd fill the gap tactically because believe me one thing you do NOT want to be left with next year is three headless chickens that can only finish. The play just breaks down all the time with Defoe, Bent and Pav, unless they have someone classy with them.

Yes, that's the point really it's like a big boost for your squad for next to nothing.
He's different class to Bent and Pav. And overall for your team I'd say he's better than JD as well.
But he's a very certain type of player. Can I see him and Keane working that well together? Not sure, but Keane and Berb were similar, Rooney and Tevez were similar and they were both delicious partnerships.
I am inclined to believe that great football brains can play together no matter what, even if it is the same position and they like to do the same things. Keane and Berb would just dovetail in sync and maybe Eider and Keane could do that as well.

Gudjohnsen aint a headless chicken mate.
From what I remember of watching him, he was an intelligent player who worked for the team, was not selfish, passionate and worked very hard
Quite frankly, thats what I would like to see for us. .

You misinterpret. I said he or someone like him would be essential to bring in tactically if Keane leaves because he ISN'T a headless chicken, Bent, Pav and JD are.

I agree he deosn't have the goal scoring record of Keane but then he has rarely been a regular starter. Look at his goals per starts ratio, I reckon it will be pretty much the same as Robbie.
I utterly disagree about Gud needing a tall striker, his real beauty is that he can play in the hole, up top, as a support striker, as a target man, you name it he can do it.

I highly doubt that mate. And what's his international record where he is the main man?
And up top he looked very disappointing for Barca imo. Couldn't play the lone role at all and they even went with Saviola instead after a while up top instead and he was way better as he could work the line.
