...has just become Wolves manager.
Well, they should have no problem making a prem return then, but they should remove him once they get promoted, else they'll go staright back down!!!!

Quite honestly I don't know how he does it. The man is as articulate and inspiring as a root vegetable. Another few seasons in the doldrums for Wolves then. And I bet Wolves fans thought they had suffered enough with Hoddle...must have been something terrible they did in a past life

i cant see them getting back into the premiership, they've sold their best players and have no money which is a shame cos i want wolves in the prem but i think its beyond McCarthy, definately this season anyway

Why should we be bothered about a dull man and a dull team of a dull city?

I don't think anyone is. I just thought I'd take the opportunity to ridicule him a little.

They're not even worthy of that.

Well they just ripped Everton out of 6mil for Lescott, so unless they have got financial problems I don't know about, 6mil is alot of money in the Championship.
But they won't come back up. Mick is a muppet, has he actually even completed a season in the Premiership where he wasn't relegated?

yes they did get about £5million for Lescott but they had to sell him to compensate for the loss of the parachute payments, which equated to £5.5million so they've lost their best player for no real gain

Here's an Irishman's point of view of McCarthy: Decent fella, average coach, shit manager.
The saipan disaster probably wasn't as well documented in England. Over here we know every last detail: He didn't make sure the equipment was going to be at the training base on time (like send it two weeks early); it arrived THREE days late. That was footballs, kits, salt water drinks for acclimatisation. And the pitch was an nightmare, like a car park with pot holes. This kind of thing had been going on for years. But doing this at a world cup says it all about McCarthy.
Keano, being the consumate winner that he is finally blew his load. Great going McCarthy. He also had a very underrated team, which meant he left with a lot of plaudits (particularly in England who didn't realise that we had a very good side), that he didn't deserve. He had a world class keeper, a solid back four (as they proved for years), Roy Keane as captain, one of the best wingers in the world at that time in Duff, Steven Reid (who was playing then as he is now), Robbie Keane, and the nightmare to play against that is a big man with a good touch: Quinny (who surprised us all in becoming a really good player in old age).
We used to tear our hair out in the WC that he kept picking Gary Breen (though for all he tried the rest were so solid that he didn't do much damage) ahead of Kenny Cunningham, played Duff up front, KILBAIN on the wing and dropped the mighty Quinn.
Every time Quinn came on he would cause havoc because he was intelligent and huge. He used to play Robbie in all the time, and he was always there, a huge frame to feed he ball into and he'd link the play well. This also freed up Duff to go play on the wing, where he terrorised defenders when he was facing them.
We murdered Spain for an hour but we didn't have Roy Keane there (the best captain of all time) to drive us to finish them off. After that game we would've had Korea followed by an average German side. Had Keano been there and McCarthy picked the right team and done better preparation we had every chance of the final. Basically if we'd had a good manager.
In short McCarthy's a clown. Probably a good championship manager, maybe even a decent make up the numbers prem manager (if he had good side), but
he'd never cut it in the top six, in europe, or internationally.
To give my appraisal of Wolves future: He might get them promoted, but he'll probably struggle big time to keep them up, even if they spend a bit.

Mick McCarthy isn't Irish. He was born in Burnley.

Both his parents are Irish, and he always saw himself as Irish even though he was born in England. I think it is up to him to determine what he is or is not.

Similar to that of Simone Perrotta, the Italian Englishman.

Perrotta was born in Burton under Lyme (i think) and moved to Italy when he was eight. Presumably his name used to be Simon Parrott?!

Yea, he'd have never been the same player unless he changed his name. I wish Thierry Henry changed his name to Terry Henry.
