I know it's highly unlikely that we would: a) Have the funds, b) Be able to attract him without CL footy, and c) bigger spanish or italian clubs would be his most likely destination.
But my god I'd love it if we pulled out all the stops and signed him. Him a Palacios in the centre? Just incredible. :w00t:
Anyone have any similar thoughts on him? Care to day dream like me?

Day-dreaming is free and a much nicer place to be than reality.
I don't think that we will get Alonso. We maybe had a chance last pre-season when Liverpool were taking offers for him and certainly after Wenger refused to pay the asking price.Could Alonso have been included as part of the deal when Keane went to Liverpool?.
If Liverpool are prepared to sell Alonso, the only real way to attract him to Spurs would be for us to go up to Anfield next sunday and give our best performance of the season and beat Liverpool away. That would show Alonso and anyone else that we may be interested in,that we are a team that is going places.
Now is that day-dreaming or what?.

Your forgetting the 'Ramos' factor that attracted many players to a 'proven world-class' manager. Do you think Modric would of come if 'Arry was in charge?
We really should of pulled out all the stops to sign him; a player of his calibre does not deserve to be on the bench AT ALL. If only we could prise him away; dont care if its silly money either. Xavi Alonso is world class; imagine the following:
-----Crouch - Keane-----
Modric - Alonso - Palacios - Lennon
I think I just ejaculated.

Would never happen - but I love him, one of my favourite prem players. If Liverpool turned Lennon's head we should demand Alonso as part of the deal!
Saying that I dont want Lennon going anywhere and would be proper raging if anything happened.
Lennon and Modric have to be kept this summer...if either of those two were sold it would be a disgrace.

Keep dreaming Gino. Only place you'll get him in a Spurs shirt.

I know, but he's just everything I enjoy in a footballer. Quiet and honest attitude, great technique, can drop a 60 yard pass on the side of a 5 pence piece, and can hit an outstanding long range shot. Plus he's always composed, never panics, and hardly ever loses the ball.
When you see someone like that available, you just get excited

I don't think funds is a problem, but I think CY has got it spot on. I don't believe that Harry would have been able to lure Modric, and I think we would have had a much better chance at Alonso last summer when a) We had a world renowned Spanish manager, and b) Alonso looked as though he was going to be marginalised in favour of Barry. Surely Rafa isn't going to try to shift him again? It was stupid enough the first time, after his performances this season it would be insane. Getting Barry wouldn't be an upgrade, at best it would be like for like in terms of quality. At the very highest imaginable best.

Dont see why we shouldnt go in for Barry, not a bad player. Probably a decent enough Carrick for our money. Trouble with that is we GENUINELY already have way too many midfielders. Where can you see the likes of Hudd (who put in smoe quality performances) JJ etc being left?
If we can get Hudd to play consistantly, we really would have a top notch midfield. Obviously if Alonso came along, hudd could get fvcked.

I think we could happily off load a bunch of our midfielders if it meant bringing the caliber of Barry or (daresay it) Alonso in.

Why would Barry leave Villa just to come to a very similar team, with the exception that we have more midfielders and big names, so he wouldn't be captain or top dog???

Apparently hes available for 8 million as his contract is up next year. Worth a shot.

Obviously Alonso (never going to happen) would be great but Barry would be pretty good to. I actually think we could lure him (he's a Spurs fan !) as I think we will finish higher than Villa next season and are in a better position to pressurise the top 4.
If Chelsea snapped up Young you never know what way Barry might start thinking. Anyone can see that Spurs are on the up and Barry might just consider his options even if Liverpool dont make an approach again. A midfield of Barry and Palacios would be very strong.
Saying all that - it probably wouldn't happen!

Really? I thought Muntari was more of a physical box to box type than a cultured deeper player than Alonso?

i really like Alonso a lot and would love to sign him. we should pull out all the stops to get him if its an option. Modric, Palacios, Alonso & Lennon would be a real classy midfield that if we keep together could be unbelieveable.

His defending is shit, but that doesn't matter because next year when we have this team, I will be the manager, and I'll make sure he realises that defending isn't his priority :001_smile:
