Last season I was at the Lane for it! Defoe came on as a sub...Bent and Berbatov had started that day....Defoe scored in the 83rd minute to make it 2-1...:001_smile:

Yeah, i remember that game. I was at the lane the 06/07 the last day of the season. We went 2-0 up in the first 10 minutes through Kene & Berbastrop, Mpenza for Citeh, then Defoe missed a pen.

Here's one for you lot.
If we don't conceed we'll be the only premiership side to have conceeded a single digit goal against throughout the season.
For all the defence doubters and Gomes slayers (I would have counted myself in there after Burnley!) it would be a remarkable achievement. If we beat Man City the lowest we can finish is 9th, which is again an improvement on last season. So, Harry go for it and make it a game to remember. I would love to see JD/ RK to get one each both different reasons.

Those hit-and-hope crosses, or more frequently the ones hit into the first defender, will obviously be a great loss. Hopefully, David can assuage that by hitting lots of perfect balls on to Pav's head that he can guide past Given, before finishing off the game himself with a 25 yarder.

Hudd looking fantastic today, by far 1st half's best player, although JD deserves some recognition as well. Could have 3 goals. BAE doing well to pick his spot to get up and down the flanks. We really could be up 3 or 4 goals, but City hasn't really tested us at all.
Too bad Fulham has scored, but if it means sending down those Geordie ****s, then I am all for it. Just take care of our half of Merseyside and hope that the other half can rise to the occasion.

Was spot on...well the second one was!
C'mon, this is a great second half of the season. We are not the finished article but it's been a pretty amazing series of results. We've dug in deep when we've had to and although I think the 7th spot is a real outside bet, who knows really?
I actually say well played Fulham and if it had to be a team to take it other than spurs (of course!) then I'd say they deserve it.

Ten goals conceded all season at home is a superb record. And today in the first half we were magnificent.However....our recent trend of great first half/poor second half continued. And that is what will cost us a European place. There have been so many games recently where we have dominated the first half but failed to take advantage of that dominance.
Where was Huddlestone in that second half?.Keane, although not playing in his favoured position, was largely poor again.I don't see any future for Pav with Spurs.
But we rode our luck a little bit in that second half and got a win and that is all that matters for now. There is still some major tweaks needed in this team, but the platform for success is in place.

tbh i wouldnt mind a comfy 8th place finish, im not too keen on the thought of an extra 19 games to get to the final and the 09-10 season starting in July (look at whats happened to Villa, completely ran out of steam after january). that way we could have a real go at the top 6 (maybe even top4) and a right crack at possibly both domestic cups.

Yep but people still don't want to give credit where credit is due. As I said earlier in the season but a few people slated me for it, Gomes can't do nothing right he gets slated for anything. Other keepers were performing just as bad but nothing gets said. If Gomes punches the ball "he should of catched it" if reina punches the ball ........silence.
Just a load of bollox from people who don't watch spurs or people who can't turn round and say "the lad as done brilliantly."

I can see what you are saying. He did make me wince more than once during the first half of the season but he has come on so much. It's always easier to knock the goalkeeper and once a calamity tag appears it's hard for it to be shaken off. I recall in the game away to Fulham that they pretty much admitted to shooting on sight because of this! I think that our defense can be proud though and although it's a long shot for next week at liverpool...why not?!
So; who thinks that Keane will get the goal to get us into Europe at the kop end (in the last minute) of course!

Whilst Liverpool haven't lost at home this season, they have had a lot of home draws against 'lesser' sides. With the title now gone to Man Utd,it is a meaningless game for Liverpool,so we could pick up at least a point.
Even if we come away from Anfield with nothing,I won't be disappointed. We all have to remember that before the Hull away match we were in the thick of a relegation battle and just as likely to go down as anyone else.So while it will be sad not (possibly) to have European football next year,we can all take comfort in the fact that we survived and actually prospered.
I don't think that next year will the 'one',but it will be the year that we re-establish ourselves as a force.

Being honest, Keane wasn't all that influential aside from his pen. He fluffed a sure goal after a fantastic BAE cross, and while the chested volley is an absolutely difficult skill, you'd expect him to bag that. I know he was being played out of position on the left, but for long stretches it was as if he wasn't even on the pitch. I do think that Elano's injury was a big part of that, as he had to go against the more defensive minded Zabaleta for the final hour of the match, but oh well. He bagged it when it mattered.

Movement for his goal, actually pointing where he wanted it being totally aware was pure class. Bang, goal. Now that's spiffing awesome play.
If he adds that kind of movement to his finishing and shooting pedigree he will be one hell of a striker.
Keano seemed to have play very well, great awareness, movement, link up, as usual creating lots of chances for himself and the team with his brain, touches and movement, but couldn't finish his dinner. Seems out of sorts, but great penalty. Needs the summer break me thinks and then will come back to his normal form. Form is temporary, class is permanent.
Keane and Defoe can't play together, bah. Play it to feet, coach and work on it properly in training and it can, of course it can.
Hudd looked good too. But City will let you play. Mention for Gomes who broke yet another record, which is a great comeback from the large problems and criticism he was taking.
Overall he's had a very good season and has proved he is what we paid for, one of the best in the league.

I thought that as well at the time, but I saw it on MOTD and it wasn't like that. One city player got a deflection on it, which put off another City defender (Dunne I think) and he slid in to get it but missed about 2 metres in front of Robbie. He didn't have any time to see it coming, it just bounced off him.

Agree with you there mate, at least Keano did score the penalty, Pav should have put away that sitter in the second half.Let's hope keano has a cracker against the pool.
He was offside anyway.

If it's the same miss we are talking about, no offside was given. The one I'm on about is when he was subbed soon after.

I thought he was given offside but he still should have buried it.
Are you talking about the chance from the hutton cross.

It was his last chance he missed before being subbed. Might have been Hutton's cross, no matter what he should have at least been on target.

honestly cant remember. Pav had a stinker from start to finish his mind wasnt on the game.
A very unorthodox striker but I'm still prepared to give him next season. he might have to start on the bench because the jd- keane partnership could potentially be

The one where there was a cross from the right and he put it wide with his left foot? I don't know if they just took a goal kick because it didn't really matter, but the flag was definitely raised - I was in line with it and I could see that he was offside anyway.

Totally agree, Pav was at WHL in body but his mind was definitely elsewhere. Can't see us getting much for the likes of Pav and Bentley, Wonder whether Levy will let them go cheaper. Doubt it.

I saw the game on stream. I might have missed the flag being raised and if you were in line with the said miss, then you must have seen it much clearer. End of the day, Pav mentally, was miles away.

We're surely not selling Pav? I think he's definitely been good enough to warrant a chance at a second season - especially given all the circumstances that have been mentioned so many times before.

Have read on other forums and heard rumours that he might be heading for the exit. How true this might be, we 'll have to wait and see.

He did make some encouraging comments recently after a meeting with Redknapp, saying he wants to stay..... I really hope he stays, I think there's more to him than we've seen.

I hope so too, however, do not rely on a player's comments. Remember what Keano did.

According to Sky sports news Arry was not too happy with Pav's behaviour.

"David is going to be a player looking at it and thinking 'hang on a minute, I'm not getting in the team even when Aaron Lennon is not fit. Maybe it is time I moved on'", Redknapp said.
"As a person I like him very much, he's a good lad and a good player. I've played differently and changed the way we've played a bit. I've had results so no-one can complain."
Bentley is almost certainly off if we get a £12m+ bid
Pav is 50-50 he could go if we get a £10m+ bid.

I'd be highly surprised if he's here next season. Arry previously made comments regarding his lack of effort in learning English and commitment on the pitch. We'd easily be better off with Dirk Kuyt.

Sure, but I'd like better than Kuyt too, who hasn't really performed as a striker in the premier league, only as a good stand in winger.

Ok, I've finally gotten round to catching the MOTD highlights! All 6 bloody mins of them. 6! So I can hardly claim to give a throrough assessment. God I need to get my Sky Sports back!
The highlights suggets that we were all over them in the first half. A few good chances, Given in good form, and the forwards looking sharp. JD's goal was sexy, and Hudd's run (huh, what was that?!) and turn resulted in a gorgeously placed chip into Keane. If Keane's touch, turn and volley had made contact then it would've been flat out orgasmic! Definately an example of Keane's misfiring form this season; can't wait for him to get this season past him (must've been one of his worst) so he can be back to normal after the summer.) Good pen from him though.
Pav fecking blew that tap in. Long season or no, my Nan could have hit that in with her shopping bag. His strop didn't do him any favours either; something Harry commented on in the interviews. I hope they can get over it and let him have a full pre-season.
Our defending looked a bit haphazard for Bojinovs goal. No one really tracking their striker, and Hutton failed to get across in time. Thankfully we kept the clean sheet and got the record. That's a big deal for us this season, to come out of it with a real morale boosting achievement like that. Should help settle the defenders, convince BAE to stay and inspire them for next season.
