I have heard from a friend of mine who is a reliable source that Duff is all but a done deal for a fee in the region of £7m, and should be announced within the next few days providing he passes a medical and agrees terms. Personally if this does happen I think it would be a great signing, the only qualm I have is the fact that he is quite prone to injury. Any thoughts??

I've also been told the same thing only earlier today, it's done providing the rest.

Perhaps we could recover 2 million by selling Porkie.

Duff will be coming and the midfield looks dangerous.

Surely someone big will have to go to pay for all this. Either Carrick or Defoe. And if Defoe goes we'll need to sign another striker. My money is on a £16m Carrick move to man u to fund zokora, duff and nedved.

I've heard he should cost in the region of £10 to £15m and that he has signed a 4 year contract worth around £50,000-a-week deel...

why do we need to sell, we,ve got a dogs bollox sponsorship deal remember , dont just say we need to sell just cos thats what the sun says.
we can afford to hold on to all we have, tho of course we may choose to sell .
He (duff) should link up well with Keane and also defoe i believe will be good with him, just need to attack the near post every time he crosses.

Maybe we can afford them all, but once again the midfield looks very congested, so maybe we will off load a couple of them, like Mendes, Davis and Brown last year. I guess nobody will be too fussed if Murphy leaves. I wouldn't be pleased at all if Carrick were to go for a good fee, but the prospect of Nedved playing for us, despite being 33, is such an exciting thought.
On the topic of the thread, I hope the Duff deal can be finalised, cause he's just what we need, a top level left winger. Him out wide, with Nedved inside him... outstanding!

Duff would be an excellent signing.... exactly what we need a top class left winger...
How old if Duff?

Great signing, I reckon. Duff will balance the midfield nicely and already has experience of playing with Keane. I can't see why his arrival has to herald any major exits, but I think Jenas could find himself up the road sooner rather than later, along with Murphy, Reid and Davids. Unlike others, I really don't fear a big name exodus - we just aren't a selling club these days.

Can't see Jenas going anywhere mate....what makes you say that?!?!?

Jenas was the only MF with the goal touch. Can't afford to let him go. Having two rather lightweight wingers will also put additional pressure on the middle two to chase and tackle. Jenas has the speed to cover a lot of ground and more tenacious than Carrick, so I see the 2 CM as Zokora and Jenas.

Jenas isn't going anywhere... Murphy and Reid on the other hand...
and we got Teemu and Gahly in the squad.... Our midfield now looks strong... I can't wait for the season to start
RM:- Lennon and Routledge
LM:- ?Duff?, Reid and Reto
CM:- Teemu, Gahly, Davids, Murphy, Jenas, Zokora, Carrick and Huddlestone...
Still can't help but think Carrick may go... but rather Murphy be shipped out...

agree i think jenas was an astute buy, is probably one of the quickest midfieldrs in the league and has a good all round game. He was only getting used to us last year so expecting great things this season. I'm also worried about duff's injury problems, usually his hamstrings i believe. There's a comparison on planetfootball between davids, duff and lennon with opta stats, and his passing quality and crosses are very good. As we sold 4 players in january and signed two new sponsor deals we can afford to buy who we want. We are only looking to complete the team, and shouldn't need to buy any more top players for a few years. we have a young squad that's almost complete. i also think we have a good 10m of dead wood we can sell and probably carrick will go too. Would like to see us get micah richards whatever the outlay.

Nedved? I think he's signed for the ABBA reunion show in Las Vegas.
I think Duff is a great signing. Fitness concerns though.

Why does anyone need to go?
The 30 mil is more than covered by the Mansion House deal and the Puma signing on fee. THere must be also money in the kitty too.
The only way I can see Carrick going is for 15mil+ and Defoe for 12mil+.
All this talk about selling to cover the buys is nonsense. Have folks forgotten we have a (hopefully lengthy) European campaign this season. We need a strong squad, with quality and decent cover throughout.
Duff will be a great signing and I forsee one more 'big' signing still to come.

dont get too carried away, it hasnt happened yet. the rumours of him taking a medical and signing a deal havent been confirmed yet, officially or unofficially. all that has been unofficially confirmed is that we've put in a bid. apparently liverpool are looking into it as well

There's some Chelscum writing elsewhere that Duff just came back from vacation and has started training at the bridge.

I don't know if it's a good idea to blow all our money at once! That deal is for four years (I think) so we should make sure we have some to spend for the next few seasons too!
Not saying we do have to sell someone (fingers crossed we don't!) but we shouldn't go crazy just because we have a few quid in our pocket!
I have a feeling the Duff thing isn't going to happen. I don't want us going over 10 million for him expecially as he only has one year left on his contract!

it seems odd jose hasn't come out and denied it, i'm guessing they want to part with one of them. I think we may just have had a cheeky enquiry, to see which of our targets is gonna be cheapest. Funny how nobody has mentioned boa morte or jon greening in ages. I think it' s more likely it'll be one of these but the selling club won't say anything until they've flogged as many season tickets as possible.

'Blowing our money' on poor buys would be a waste. Using our money wisely to buy quality and securing a higher league position and guarenteeing CL income the following season makes a lot of sense to me.
Obviously there is no guarentee of success, but it is a hell of a lot more likely then keeping the money set aside for a rainy day.
