looking at the reports on the two french friendlies it seems J Defoe is really determined to be starter striker. outshone Berbatov, scored a corker nearly scored from the halfway line, ran defenders ragged and appears to have a great attitude towards his club.
Latest rumours the Geordies are after him , like im sure hed wanna play in the intertitty cup, i reckon hes staying and we're gonna see him dazzle next season just like keane did the last one, MJ's got them eating out of his cap.

By my lights, Defoe is highly talented but mentally not strong. On the contrary, Keano is les talented but mentally outstanding. Keano is a leader. Defoe never could be a leader.

we're not asking him to be a leader

Defoe has an ability to score goals out of nothing, that Keano don't have.. Defoes lives of goals, and his only job is to score goals.. Keano is hardworking, takes part in the game outside the penaltyareas and creates lot of chances...

ofcourse defoe could be trying to impress and get a new club. Hope not, i think he's our best striker, and will go on to be one of the best in the country. you have to remember he played in a really unbalanced side last year so all the strikers had to do much more team build up than you'd want them too. With berby as acting goalhanger defoe should do brilliantly in behind.

Defoe is the key man for us to the top. There is not a other striker like him, he is a 20 goalmachine who is young and last year was a learning curve. With all the games we have this year and the extra cup games he will definitely get the goals.

If we sell him it is another teams gain, we need to love him and nurture his talents and i feel mj will do that. I dont know who will start next season but i just hope defoe can start to enjoy his football again because i dont want him to leave AND him and keano can play togeather only if we can keep the ball of the floor and pass and move!!!!!!!!!!

What he went through last season can only make him stronger and im glad he represents the mighty spurs!

I'll be happy if our 3 main strikers can score 50-55 goals among them.

my first ever post ,nice to be here ,what a forum love it!

disagree with keano not having the ability to score a goal out of nothing eg. villa, blackbun last season

agree with defo lives of goals though

I too...

Still, why does MJ want to buy Bent?

4 top strikers?

it's risky to draw conclusions from friendlies...

When Berbatov went to Bayer, he was only 19. Nevertheless, in the pre-season friendlies he outshone the stars Ballack, Ze Robero, Kirsten and Neuville, scoring 6-7 goals. yet, in his first half-season in the Bundesliga he scored 0....

now I 'd prefer the opposite scenario...

Yeah your right.. Was just thinking about some of defoes goals last term, eg. Boro, Portsmouth home and away and couldn't think of any Keane goals like that, but obviously Keane's goal against Blackburn was an absolute top individual goal...

think that keano and defoe can play both. though berby wil be a first choice for many matches, he also will sit on the bench

Keeping hold of Defoe is more vital than keeping Carrick.

Yeah I kinda agree, as we need the solid DM (Zakora) in there.
Carricks a strange one, because he's a fantastic player, but i can't see him fitting in to our plans. He's a centre midfielder, not great defensively and not great offensively, just deadly with passes and reads the game well - where with out new DM, we can use the other midfielder (Jenas, Tainio) to pounce forward. If carrick was in that position, would he be good getting forward?

Cant honestly say I agree re: Defoe. I think he is a elt-down. Berbatov will be our main man. "Mark me words"!

Last season our approach play were horrible most of the time and when Mido was absent either physically or mentally, Defoe was left very much on his own and unprotected. Assuming that we get a useful LW and have Zoko and Jenas in the middle, we would not have to rely on so many long balls. The MF will be much quicker in joining the attack and this will give Defoe or Keane much needed support and more space to work in. I can see both Defoe and Keane improving in scoring rate. Defoe will easily double his tally.

carrick when he played for west ham was used in a more attacking role.. and he used to play the clever passes to joe cole and jermain to feed off, he was very effective .. he used to almost play a free role..and west ham were very offensive.. the conceded goals too.but for me its strange to see carick as a holding player and he cant tackle well.. he can hold up play. but he doent tackle well, but as we all seen he can retain the ball very very well... ptobably 1 of the best ball retainers in prem. id really hate to see man u , get to use carrick to his full potential, i think if he get to use most of his thinking offensively hell be dare i say unplayable, as slow as he is, he is so clever and uses both feet, not a lot of english players can do this,, gerard come s to mind but who else,

Thanks for the complement, and without wanting to sound conceited, I must say that I've watched footie for about 50 years in various parts of the world.
