Anyone else still undecided on him?
Very unorthodox style of play. Can anyone really list his strengths? Does anyone automatically think that if he doesn't play we're going to struggle? Is he that important to the team?
He knows where the sticks are, that much is very clear. He can be thirty yards out running backward and still know exactly where he needs to put the ball. Putting it there is a different proposition.
Link up play? Target man? Nice slick passing? Lots of movement? Decent shooter?
I think the best that can be said is he's a goal poacher, but hardly a prolific one.
Love his attitude to bits, always playing with a smile is great to see. He's scored a decent amount of goals this year, although all away from the league scene.
Thoughts?

Yeah this is a good topic actually. I think his main strength is his movement in the box and he's a neat finisher. He certainly has a knack of being in the right place at the right time in the box. I like his intelligence in the box...he can simply hold his position or try little diagnol runs to get on the end of things...has that ability to smell out where he needs to be in the box...prerequisite for a fox in the box finisher. I mean he has a lot more about him in the box than Bent for example. On the other hand Bent has pace and can work the channels and stretch defences. I would take Pav over Bent anyday though.
Weaknesses include hold up play and longer range shooting is pretty dire. Obviously he isn't the quickest and wont work the channels so to speak. I mean you wouldn't really see him giving defenders the 'run around'.
His link up play needs to come out more, linked very well with Defoe against Stoke at home - certainly has the intelligence to form good understandings.
I am still prepared to reserve a final judgement on him for the time being. I would need to see him next season to make that call, question is will he be given another season?

Havent warmed to him TBH, for such a big man hes very weak and I think Harry will get rid in the summer. Hes no where top class, an average player and thats being kind.

I can certainly see that there is a very classy player in there, bursting to get out. I think, assuming he's still here, we will see a much more effective Pav next season, he needs a good couple of months rest and needs to add bulk to his frame. At times this season Pav has reminded me of Teddy which makes me think that he can play with pretty much any front man at the club (including Bent, it's just that Bent is so limited that he can't form a partnership with even himself).
I've a feeling Harry will want to bring in his own big striker over the summer, it therefore remains to be seen if Pav will be wearing the lilywhite next season.

I think if we stick with him, he'll come good next season.
I just think due to the previous owner of the #9 shirt we're expecting miracles from him.

Agreed. I think he is starting to enjoy playing in this league. He may have faults but he's certainly not average. I can see him turning up the heat next season and his understanding with Defoe and now Robbie is clear to see!

There's something about his movement that smacks of Klinsmann, as pointed out to me by SS. He's a sniffer of a striker, great positional sense and a natural finisher. At the moment his confidence is getting the better of him more often than not, and is probably trying to hard to offer more to the team, such as link up play and creativity.
Played as an out and out striker with Keano off his shoulder, and he will thrive, especially if the likes of Lennon and (god please) a left winger crossing the ball to his head.
Bent offers something different in pace and power. Not really a target man, and his movement in the box is poor in comparison. More of a dynamic player suited to the through balls provided by Modric and Keano.

think spurs bought him to link up with arshavin:confused1: he s no target man can t remember him last winning an aerial ball!sort of player that drifts into the box on the back of defenders, needs the pass on a plate.

It's simple really, he needs to play higher up the pitch more reguarly and also needs a decent run of games with the same partner.

I agree - He is a good finisher, scores goals and can link the play.
I stated at the Euros that IMO he played just as well as Arshavin (who took all the plaudits) and i still believe he can be really good player for us.
May just need to toughen up a touch, the Prem has been a baptism for him (as it is for most foreigners) but he has played a season already in Russia.
The guy must be knackered...i say make your mind up next season - if he is still here.
I also think that if given a run with Robbie Keane - it could be a good partnership.

Scored a lot of goals coming from a crap league, not speaking the lingo, and not having had a break for ages. All these things considered, I think he's done pretty well, and deserves a lot more time. Very classy finisher - in situations like the Burnley game, sometimes you need someone like him - with a sweep of the left boot you have a precious goal, even if he does little else.

It's hard to know but I said after the final I'd had enough of him. He seems to have ability but where the hell is it 90% of the time. Is he knackered? Maybe, maybe that's the reason, but he's a big guy and as I always say you have to offer something other than finishing to be truly worth your place in a good team. Can you hold the ball up? Can you muscle defenders and win headers? Can you link the play? Do you have movement and stretch defenders, create space?
I don't see any of this in Pavlechenko, but the hold up play was there in the euros. So maybe he is just knackered. I would still have serious doubts though, perhaps can't handle the pace and physicality of the prem.
He's been the same as Bent and Defoe basically. Great finisher horrible general play and it ain't good enough. I will say that Bent has improved just recently I think, he's running the channels, stretching defences and using the ball a bit better. I'd actually be more optimistic about Bent than Pav right now. And Defoe was showing more than Pav and Bent before the injury. Now Bent is showing as much as Defoe was.

I agree but I just can't see any striker in the world that can play well with Bent.

Hes done quite well considering hes being playing for more that a year non-stop. I say give him til the end of next season before rushing to judgement. Hes the best finisher we have at the moment along with keano.

I think Keano is the worst finisher of Pav, Bent and Defoe, but will get as many goals due to his touch and movement and his general play is on another planet to those guys.
Pav has a lot to prove for me. Maybe he is knackered. Maybe they should have sent him off to the sun for two weeks in January like Fergie did with Scholes years ago when he thought he was knackered. Came back and played a blinder for the rest of the year.
Spurs career has only been good in box, rubbish general play. Does play class at times and in the euros so keep him til January and see how it's going. If it's the same sell him.
