View Full Version : Lack of goals at Spurs?

Wow! Was just checking out the official website and found out that of the entire Tottenham Hotspur squad only FOUR players have scored more than two goals for us! It's pretty easy to work out who they are.

I know we have a young squad, a MUCH changed squad, but this seemed a little worrying and does show that our midfield (and our defence to be honest) really have to score more!

I'm confident that they will do this next season (please!), but they could hardly do much worse!

COYS!

well hopefully we'll have at least 60 games next season , so id want at least 25 from the midfield, 6 from defence and minimum 50 from the forwards and perhaps one from robbo??????

Berbatov 25
Keane 20
Deffoe 12 (because of less games)
the 4th striker 6
Lennon 6
Jenas 5
the LM 5

Let's not get ahead of ourselves!

Berbatov might be a flop, Lennon might break his leg in the first game, Defoe might be sold cut price, Keane might become an alcoholic, Robbo could quit to become a travel agent and King may sign for the gooners!

I'm just looking on the bright side of things!

That's my worst nightmare, not the bright side!!!!

I can see Michael Dawson chipping in with a few this season, he came close on many occaisions last season. With his ability to attack aerial balls he should be a regular goalscoring Centreback like John Terry is at chelscum.

He's scored for Leeds (http://s71.photobucket.com/albums/i160/Ellie_03/?action=view&current=Robinsonvs.flv), so who's to say he won't get one for us!

PS, noticed Little Lenny in the celebrations at the end, two of my current favourite Spurs players in the same clip, but nor Spurs.

only 4 players with more than 2, that cant be right. its obviously Jenas, Keane, Defoe * mido but im sure King got more than 2. noth that it has anything to do with the lack of goals problem i just thought id bring it up

Too bloody right mate! Even those who did score last season had a poor year by their standards, only Robbie really pulled his weight.

As I may have said before, who would have thought at the begining of last season that Keane, Defoe, Mido and even Rasiak would manage to score less than 40 goals between them? Surely we can only imporove in terms of goalscoring prowess. Frankly I'd sacrifice some of our defensive solidity in order to concentrate on our attacking options (full back, I'm talking about you!!).

Common Houdini, don't be a pessimist. With your name, you should believe in magic, that is the Spurs magic.

Will need you to spin some magic or make a few Chelscum disappear.

How long does everybody think it will be before we can realistically challenge for the Title?

I say another 3 years.

Chinaman

That's a good estimate, but only if the Levy-Jol- Commoli Axis is intact.

If we are to win the title one day, we have not to sell our best players. And it seems that we are going to sell Carrick...

But we've replaced him with a better player.

I think it will be. Comolli seems more genuine and for the cause than slimy frank arnesen. What a shambles the Arnesen/Santini mission was....and then good ol' MJ saves the day!!!!

You mean Zokora? Yes, I also think that Zokora is better than Carrick. Still, they can play together.

Zokora and Jenas in the centre will speed up our build-up, thus resulting in more goal chances. Last season, our build-up was too slow, allowing the opposition to fall back in numbers and park their buses.

And guess who gets the blame for that?!? :p

Yes, YOU, Mr Carrick.

I'm not blaming but it's a fact that he consistently stepped over and turn 180 degrees, take a few steps with the ball, then turn back 180 degrees to make a 30 yards cross field ball. And in the whole process, we might have advanced 5 yards into enemy territory.

I've always said that he's a lesser version of Dazza, one who can't shoot.

There's a complete lack of excitement and sense of anticipation of an impending goal that I can feel when he's on the ball; unlike Hoddle, the 2 great Argies or Gazza.

If we sell Carrick and invest the money in a top LM or LW, we'll have a very very good squad.

The left sided player is elusive though, is it me or does it seem like a common problem?

Very few teams in the world can boast top quality left wingers.

I wonder if Lennon could be given a go on the left. I'd like to see that and Routledge playing right wing. We'd be lethal with pace on the flanks...

The problem there is Carrick needs to see possible passes ahead. Each touch out of feet is to buy him that extra yard to look for the ball forward. If the ball isn't on, he simply can't play it. Teams knew we liked to play a passing game, so they would press us very quickly.

Lennon is so good on the right that I'd not wish to put him on the left and risk him under-performing by 30%. Last season he had a game there, and although he did better than Porkie, he wasn't as devastating as when he was on the right.

What I'd like to see is what Portugal did a lot in the WC (no, not the diving! ), that is start with Lennon on the right, and I guess Routledge on the left, but every so often they would swap over, if they were getting no joy, or just to confuse the defense. I think Figo and Ronaldo did this to great effect in the WC.

Chinaman

Unfortunately Routledge is too one-footed to be on the left.
I agree for certain tactical considerations say at 60-70 minutes, we may have to try to bring Routledge on on the right side and switch Lennon to the left. But I'd not like to start like that as that would mean reducing Lennon's effectiveness right from the beginning.

Gino Ginelli

The Lennon/Routy combo would certainly lend a tactical sophistication to the way we play. I guess that I think it would be a shame to see someone as good as routledge left on the bench, only for him to leave for first team football. Not too say I would drop Lennon for him or anything, anything but. But a system like the one you mention would be a good way to incorporate them both
