Chelsea under Abramovich always bring to mind the phrase about polishing up dog turds.
For those of us old enough to remember what Chelsea were like in the early 80's,that is the image that we have of Chelsea forever:
A team playing to 7000 people in a crumbling stadium.
Fans that would not only boo the opposition black players but also their own.
A team that in 1983 got a last day win at Bolton that stopped them from being relegated to the old division 3.If they had got relegated then that would have been the end of them.They were penniless.
They have tried so hard to airbrush their history.Their Abramovich approved history is basically "Chelsea won the FA Cup in 1970 and then decided to let someone else have a go at being the best team in the universe.In 2004 we instantly picked up where we left off" etc,etc.PR bullshit.
Chelsea are like council estate chavs or pikeys that win the lottery.Money can buy you lots of shiny things,but it can't change what you really are.

I couldn't agree more Shelfside. I remember in the early 90's attending some private party there and they still didn't even have a proper east or west stand. It looked like a lower division stadium.
