Whats your true opinion on our final position this season.I think we will finish fourth but will push the others very close.

I hope we break the top 4... but with Chelsea almost certain to win the league, Arsenal not losing Henry and building their squad and United may the team we can catch... but it will be difficult....

I say 5th and cement Spurs as a Top 6 team

4th or 5th depending on how fast our new signings accomodate and how well our young players will develop

Lennon - only 19, Daws 23, Jenas 23, Carrick 24

Berbatov 25 and Zokora 25 can also become more strong, which would mean world class...

I think we are 5th best at present but who knows with our improving young squad maybe we can break into the top 4. Gooners had a poor league campaign last season and Liverpool the season before. This season we will capitalise if they slip up.

I think we blew our best chance of finishing in CL spot last year. The top four will be stronger next year, we were only in the top four due to Henry being absent for the first few months of the scum's season and they were lumbering in mid table.

So I'm afraid it'll be 5-6th again

Welsh Spur
12th July 2006, 04:06 PM
Surely 5th is not good enough given the improvements on last season's squad????

I'd accept it....but I think we should aim higher. I see a more level playing field next year with the top 5 all near each other....

Honestly thing we will finish 3rd.. Chelski is gonna win, but I think that Manyoo and Liverpool squads are weaker then they were last season..

Liverpools striking force is weaker with the addition of Bellamy instead of Cisse and morientes.. And Hypia is just getting older, and will soon be over the hill...

Manyoo will probably lose Ronaldo and RVN and they havn't really invested in any quality players...

Scum has bought Rosicky and gotta admit he was one of my favorite players before and is real quality, but Pires is gone so they almost have the same squad as last season...

Spurs have bought two top quality players in Berba and Zokora who will help the team into at least top 4. We've bought Ekotto who I don't really know anything about, but could be a positive suprise and the we've bought some young players for the future...

Honestly, I will be disappionted if we don't get into top 4.. But we'll see, maybe in a few weeks the other teams have bought some real quality players and then my expectation will be different(or maybe they already have, and i'm just not updated of the players the other teams have bought)...

However much I would love to believe that we will finish where everyone else is suggesting, I have a bad feeling that we will slip down again into mid-table mediocrity. I know this seems unlikely with Jol in charge, and the signing's we've made, but...

I may only be young, but I've been let down by Spurs too manys times, after being all pumped up pre-season, I'm excited by what Spurs could achieve next season, but just not gonna let myself get too excited just yet.

spot on!!

I never thought we'd hang onto 4th last season and although we can look forward to more wins than defeats this season, to say a fourth place finish is being very optimistic.

We've all been there but last season, and in fact the building over the last two, give me real optimism, not a rose-tinted one.

I can't see any reason why we can't make 4th our this season. Chelski will win it, The Manchester Rowdies will finish second (they are in transition and losing some of the established players but they are far more solid than Liverpool and the Scum). I think we will be scrapping with the Pool and Scum for 3rd and 4th all season. The Sarf Londoners from Ashburton Grove are still in a huge transition and Titty signing isn't going to help them none. He may of pulled them back last season but he won't be able to do it again. This time next year Henry is going to rue the day he turned down Barcelona.

I would think that it'll be a battle for 4th and 5th spot for a good chunk of the season. I would be happy with finishing a clear 5th and getting to the semis in uefa. But who knows, with teams like Arsenal and Utd kind of in a "transition" phase, we may well be able to keep 4th.

We could have been challenging for 3rd last season had we had a better run over christmas and not lost so many points to awful late **** ups.

If you're right, then the signings of Zokora and Berbatov will be complete failures...and unjustified.

I'm not even sure I'm right, somedays I feel really positive that we're gonna breakthru this season and make the top four, and other days, like yesterday, I fear the worst. I think it's just a defense mechanism to stop my heart getting broken if we don't succeed. I guess only time will tell, and I'll be more than happy if I get proved wrong!

Well, definitely not going to beat Chelsea, so we just have to beat one of the other 3. I have absolutely no idea which one it might be. We were a fair way off Liverpool and Man U and Arse will surely be better this season. If i had to put my life on it I'd say we won't finish top 4, but we just need one of them to slip up!

Fingers crossed!

With so many false dawns in the past, I may stay realistic and say 6th. 4th would naturally be fantastic but breaking into that top four requires the sort of consistency that didn't quite materialise last season. I'd say the Ars* look the weakest as without Mr Va Va Voom they're scuppered...

I'd agree, but if he keeps injury free Bellamy will get 20 this season. One thing Liverpool have lacked has been a decent striker for years.

cheer up chaps , yes we have all had false dawns before , but i see us as stronger than last year , we have a better squad then anyone outside the top 4 from last year , so we should finish at least 5th comfortably . the bookies all make us comfortably 5th and they arent usually wrong .
who does everyone think will challenge us for 5th , newcastle ??blackburn??
nagh not a chance . the only question is if we can step up a gear and grab 4th , yes i think we can improove where as the other teams outside chelseascum have stood still

we need to pick up points off the top four, wins at home and go for wins away like last season but know when to shut up shop and settle for the point , and more importantly be able to actually do it.
I'll back Zokora to wind Rooney up to a red card and to nobble Henry early doors as we all know he doesnt like the physical side much then get Jenas on Garcia , cut off the scouse supply .
Ballack will struggle next season , hes too slow for the epl midfield.

Chinaman
14th July 2006, 01:43 PM
It's essential to get a second goal before shutting up shop when we're in front. Last season we failed to do that and was on tenderhooks late in most games.

Salty's mistake against Liverpool was more costly. And he had a few costly ones. Never rated him. If he can't be a star in the joke that is the Canadian team, how on earth is he good enough for Spurs?

hey guys, all have a look at ITV teletext page 410 and check out all the man utd and arsenal fans calling for their clubs to buy every player under the sun, inc carrick, tevez, lennon, mascherano, gattuso, buffon, zambrotta, hargreaves etc etc...its just shows how desperate both clubs are now becoming to catch chelsea.

however, you barely see any liverpool or spurs on there, except some plonkers calling for bent, ashton and harewood  , demanding their clubs spend millions to win the league and theres no chelsea fans at all.

says it all!

We literally threw away 5 games last season due to mental lapses in the closing minutes. I guarntee Jol will have the boys in great mental and physical shape this time around to squeeze out the close ones. As where we will finish, well 4th sounds realistic to me. Some disagree and think we will fall mid-table. The 8 years iv'e been supporting Spurs, my expectations have never been this high, due to the fact the Spurs were always missing key elements in the past. The pieces are coming together nicely, with a class L-mid and r-full we have a great shot.

Thirded. And there is one simple reason, belief. As a club we so used to 10 years plus of medoricity. Last season our young team sometimes seemed to be a little starstruck being respected and performing well. Last season proved we deserve to be in the top 5 again.

This season we will play with 100 times more belief and confidence.

When/If we sign Duff, then my fears I pronounced way when back when will vanquish. The idea of Duff signing has got me so excited, I couldn't give a damn if it means Carrick goes, in fact a part of me almost wants to say good riddance to him. He is a quality player, but his heart obviously isn't at Spurs in the way that players such as Jenas and Lennon are.

Duff will bring some balance to the side and even without Carrick our midfielder will be one of the best in the Premiership surely, I'm finally starting to believe and I think we can definatley break the top 4 (all this is providing Duff does sign on the dotted line).

The only question now is after being left to gather mold at Chelscum whether Jol could have him dusted and polished back his old form in time for the new season.
