View Full Version : Chimbonda's Return

Very simply, who wants him back and who doesn't? I'd give him the benefit of the doubt, because when he joined he was absolutely brilliant, a very athletic and effective defender. However, I don't think I want Corluka moving anywhere, so I don't want him back.

Do we really need another right-back, when we have already got Hutton, Corluka and Gunter? And of all right-backs, Chimbonda?! :scared:
This would surely spell the end for one of our current right-backs, and as corkspur rightly said, not really the type of guy for a relegation scrap, especially when we need the team's morale to be high, and every indivdual player putting in their all.
It is right to say he did have some quality games for us, and is capable of making good runs and crosses. I'm happy with Corluka though, and i wasn't exactly sad to see Chimbonda leave in the summer, so i really don't wanna see him back  .

Corluka is needed to cover CB. King is unavailable and Woody has been suffering from a variety of minor injuries. Hutton is unlikely to play again this season and is unsettled in London, meaning he may move in the summer.
Sunderland fans are up in arms about him leaving. One even rated him the best RB in the league after Sagna!

As much as it feels we're moving backwards (and it really, really does) just thinking logically about it, with Hutton out for probably the season it really does give us lots and lots of defensive options, meaning we can stick the classy Corluka wherever he's needed.
I think we just need to let Harry get on with this. He knows what he's doing.

Mine is a tentative yes. He did do well for us and only arry knows what is going on. At this rate berba and keane will be back in the summer!
The gaffa is making some decisions and although some seem random he'll know the history. I'd just like us to get a few games where we play consistently (good) for 90 mins. Spurs have been missing a few players that can rile up the team, chimbonda ain't one of them, he will be attacking and is a decent defender. I didn't think he was the worst we've had.

not much with Pompey except promotion & bearing in mind they had money for the first time in their history its not surprising.
nowt with Southampton except pissing Pompey off
FA cup just about with Pompey V crappy Cardiff
hes shit , hes nowhere near what we really need to supposedly move forwards from two 5th places and then a poor season, his magic halo that was on when he joined has clearly been lost and he now reckons Taarbaat is the answer to us playing poorly yet super Adel is clearly complete pants and has never done anything to show otherwise (o wait i think he completed a forwards pass once!).
Meanwhile he totally pisses off our previous top scorer, plays Modric in midfield and wastes him, leaves GDS on the bench when we arent creating anything and gives Defoe 10 minutes to equalise against Man U when Harry clearly doesnt give a toss about the game anyway.
He can **** right off the ****, he knows nothing of our history or pride else hed never have considered anything than a strong line up v man U

I'll back Chimbo's return. Can't stand the guy, but he's an excellent football player, and will show up for the odd goal. Certainly better than Hutton had been, he can head back to Glasgow for all I care. He'll do well here.

2 5th places in a row at Wham(remind you of anyone?). Regardless of the money, he built an impressive team at Pompey.
You can forget about moving forwards at the moment, or that favourite phrase "take us to the next level". Currently, it's about salvaging the club from the mess it's in, which is 2 seasons in a row of fighting relegation.
Taara certainly looked pants, which is probably why he didn't start. It's tough to take, but there was a real danger we'd be winning lots of cup games and losing league ones.

Big nose!
Two 5th places with West Ham (where he helped to build an incredible academy and nurture its products)
Then moved to Pompey, won the championship, and kept them up.
Left Pompey, couldn't save Southampton.
Returned to a sinking ship at Portsmouth, saved them miraculously.
Took Portsmouth way up the league, signing players like Diarra, Defoe, Distin and Crouch, bringing David James to the form of his life along the way.
Won the FA cup with Portsmouth.

I don't think Harry is to blame at all for this. There's no doubting his credentials, he's obviously a top manager, and MJB I don't really have a clue what you're going on about.
In my opinion the blame lies purely with the players. A manager can only do so much, at the end of the day it is the players who go out and play, and get large sums of money for doing so. I don't think their attitude has been right since the Carling Cup final, they are all cocky shits who are no where near as good as they think. The pride and passion of playing for a great club has left football because of the money, because of the fact that they all wanna play for a top 4 club, and the bond with the fans has all but disappeared. Football is in a bad state at the moment, and I think that some of the players at Spurs couldn't really give two shits about relegation, because they know that the vast majority of them will just get signed by a premiership club in the summer if we do.

ok when Harry started, he said he told the players what they were good at not what they were bad at and thats why we had a good run, well whats he saying now?
hes popping off at Bent (our top scorer at the time i think) cos he missed a sitter yet rightly defended Gomes when he was having regular nightmares,
hes signing/attempting to (Bellamy,Jones) some players that ,lets be honest, two seasons ago we'd have thrown up at the mere idea of seriously being linked with,
we're spending more money on the right back area (£20m+) , im not saying we dont need another RB but Chimbo?
we were wrong to get rid of Defoe , we were right to get rid of Chimbo.
Hes getting rid of Ghaly cos he got booed, whats he gonna do with Chimbo, drag him off after 5 minutes and put him out on loan,
as i say he knows nothing about our history yet makes out hes one of us, Hunt? who the **** wants that ****, sure i'll support him cos hes wearing Spurs colours but **** me i thought Commolli was a **** in transfers and he was.

But the thing is mate, 2 years ago we were a good team. We no longer are, and that, in my opinion, is the fault of a certain Mr Levy, who thought he'd be greedy and sack our most successful manager in years because he lost two games. It is not Redknapp's fault that we are a complete shadow of our former selves, it is the players who are not giving 100% and Levy for being a greedy, top 4 obsessed bastard.
I agree, some of the signings seem weird, and I'm certainly not happy about Chimbo coming back, but we've just gotta trust Redknapp, he's been in this situation before and got teams out of it. After the summer perhaps we can question him, and the performances we put in, but at the moment I don't care how shit we are as long as he saves us from relegation.

chimbo was great for us last season before he left. was played at rb, cb and even lb on occasion. didnt do a lot wrong either, yea he threw a hissy fit in the cc final, bcoz he was gutted to be subbed in a final. big deal.
he isn't going to do any harm to the current squad. hes versatile and gives us more of an option going forward and overlapping than corluka at rb (and no i'm not saying he is a better player than corluka!) he's certainly a better player than gunter and hutton has been mediocore since hes arrived.

Chimbonda is a very sound defender and better than BAE at left back!
He is great in the air especially being in a team that concedes a lot from setpieces.
Although i dont like the guy he will possibly be eligible for uefa cup where corluka is cup tied and with hutton out for the season thats fine by me!
corluka will not be played rb again in my opinion and being nurtured to be a CB. gunter and chimbonda will be our rb;s for the rest of the season and if woody, dawson and king are out its easy for chimbonda to slip in.
Chimbonda has only a 18 month contract so it wouldnt be too much damage if he struggles after huttons back!we can let him play in the reserves.
We shouldnt moan about our defence anymore we got cover in numbers and cant say they are crap either! maybe left back if we sold bae in the summer, but our defence is good enough to compete in the top 6.
We are joke but lets get behind our team!

Yes, for the simple reason that he is talented and just the type of man Harry could return to top class performance. First year at spurs he was unreal, great in the air and versatile as well.
I have reservation given the fact that he was awful last year, but I see what Harry is thinking in signing him.

Not sure he's got the quality, but his character is fantastic and could help revitalise spurs by embarassing some players into action by his commitment.
He blows hot and cold technically, can be brilliant and can be awful too. He's out of his depth in international football for example when starting the games.
Granted I've only seen two awful games in the last two years, both when he started for Ireland, but they were truly shocking.
He's worth signing for 6 million as it could work gangbusters. I am a big fan, especially of his attitude which is immense. At the very least he'd be good to have on the bench. Major impact player that can come on and people can't live with insane work rate second half up and down like a tasmanian devil, can change games and get teams buzzin.
