According to Sky Sports, Levy is playing his usual demading game.

Fingers crossed for the outcome.:scared:

This is ridiculous, Levy stop messing about and sign this player, its like he wants the deal structured over 30 years! If we lose out on Palacios I will be flippin raging.

Exactly, in the position we are in, Mr Levy's leeway to barter must be very limited.

You know the thing that bugs me is that this is not your typical panic buy...even though we are panicking!

Palacios, if he signs, will be the heart of our midfield for a long time. He is exactly the type of player we need, a strong and determined ball winner. A player who will scrap and fight for everything and can pick a pass. All those scrappy second balls we normally lose out on - thats his speciality.

This is a must - Levy stop haggling and get your finger out - or cheque book out should I say.

They've picked it up from a Wigan club site, speculating that United might make an offer for him and Valencia in the summer(Fergie was linked with both at the end of last season).

Jrio what does your instinct say regarding this transfer? Will we get him in January or not?

What is Levy playing at! Just sign the guy FFS. It seems that nearly every club in the league has a problem with us regarding transfers and the way we conduct them. Is it any wonder that Wigan are frustrated having to deal with us and the manner in which we do things.

We always shoot ourselves in the foot why stop now.

I just dont think this will happen now. Man United more likely to get him in the summer me thinks

If that is the case we have missed a massive opportunity to address our central midfield shortcomings.

60-40 against is my feeling at the moment. From a City forum:

"Friends at stadium on Saturday say Palacios wants us and not Spurs - otherwise will stay put until summer."

It's very finely balanced, but he's newly settled in the area, appears to have some close friends in Wigan's squad, Wigan are offering an improved contract, and I could easily see him staying there until the summer, when better offers may be on the table.

OK, now 60-40 for him signing, since we seem to have upped his wages and concentrated on emphasising how important he will be to the club.

Archie's very solid, despite me ridiculing some of his flights of fancy in the past(Jol interested in Wham job when Curbs left!). The crux appears to be he's just settled into a new home, and better opportunities could well present themselves in the next 6-18 months. Still, imagine being a furious Milan fan with the prospect of losing Kaka to City.

from my understanding we arent going to lose him to city as we agreed not to put another bid in for Bellamy if they pulled out of the chase for Palacios. now the united link, for me i cant see it. they've got carrick, andersen & hargreaves for that position also they rarely do any proper deals in january, only signing up young unknowns. even though the official wigan line is they dont want to lose him they cant afford to pass up this amount of money. im very confident of a deal going through soon.

The agreement is media nonsense. City can blow us our of the water on any deal, therefore they don't need to come to any agreement. Wham were also telling the media that Spurs were the only side they wouldn't sell to. Result: open deal for City, but FFS - 14m!.

KAKA!!!! Not coming to you anytime soon!

You don't think he's worth 14 million in the current climate then? I think he's a better player than Bent and Defoe, both cost more. Johnson cost 13 million.

He's 29 with a history of causing utter chaos in clubs he's been with. Yes, more than Davids! Defoe is 26, Bent 25, Johnson 26.

You think most strikers are better than Defoe. Nuff said. I notice Keane was yet again taken off after about an hour, and had little effect.

It seems you're saying that Defoe is better than Keane, so, without wanting to open up the can of worms that is the Defoe/Keane debate (though how there even is a debate I don't know) who do you think was better in their time together at Spurs? Just an honest one word answer.

Oh yea, he is 29, forgot that. Sounds about right to me then in the current market.

I wouldn't say most are better than Defoe. If you are comparing him to Keane, Bellamy, Tevez, Owen, Martins, Zaki and such then yes. But he's still a good little goalscorer and that is worth a good price. But I don't think he's more than a good player for a midtable team. Now, I know we are a midtable team but we should be better than that and aiming for higher and we already had similar types of players. I don't know why we didn't go for a classy forward who is better all round and also gets the goals. Hard to find you might say but there are a few about. Cavenghi is destined for much greater things.

Only poster I know who could respond to the same post within about 10 minutes. :001_smile:

Defoe's proved himself over several years. Faults are many, goals are many. He's also a great guy, a really amenable personality, and that means a lot. Technically, he's lacked a lot, but then he's never pledged himself to the club in a final victory and reversed the decision a few months later. :crying:

If we all wanted to be with the best, we'd have long gone to the likes of Utd and Pool years ago. But we don't. We're just lovin' our club and stayin' with it.

It doesn't change the fact that we already had similar players of similar ability in the same position.

I think we could have done much better.

I know you're only winding me up about Keane, but it's a totally different situation of course. As soon as Defoe got a chance to move back up the ladder he shat on Pompey.

Keane is a humble lad and didn't see a cl club coming in for him giving him a shot at titles etc. Defoe's loyalty has never been truly tested. And what is loyalty anyway, given the fact fans are not loyal to players if they play badly.

It works both ways, you can't blame players for leaving when they gave every drop they had, are getting on and they get a chance that won't come for years, if ever, at the current club.

To me it seems the itk and media just cover every angle. They have all said done deal/ not done/ going to manchester/ wants to stay at wigan etc.

Cant wait until we actually sign someone.
