No Ive not been living under a rock but I have not bothered to research too deeply into what transpired between argentina and germany players/officials after the QF penalty shoot out. Can someone tell me what they've heard / what they know. All ive heard is that someone shot their mouth off in the centre circle during the shootout and it erupted after germany won. why was heinze so incensed?

ok this is what I heard and seen
when Germany scored their 4th peno one of their players made a gesture over to the argies putting his finger up to his lips telling them to be quiet.
Then when the argies missed their next peno they were pissed off at the german for making that gesture and decided to go tell him about(I can't remember which german it was that made the gesture).
Then Cufre the argie tried to beat up Mertesacker and Beirhoff came to his rescue and Frings punched someone and Maxi Rodriguez tried to punch someone but his arms are to short and one off his teammates pulled him back.
that's about all I know hope it helps draw a pretty picture in your mind

I heard it was an argument over which ship we sunk best, the Bismark or the Belgrano.

yeh i thought the germans started singing 'we lost two world wars and one world cup' and the Argies could only muster a 'local war and no world cups lost to england'
( no disrespect intended to anyone involved )
Bierhoff wasnt too happy cos his grandad got shot at Dunkirk , Heinzes' uncle got shrapnel at Goose Green and Maxi Rodriguezs' cousin was court marshalled for shagging 12 falkland sheep in one night , alledgedly .
so feelings were running, naturally , high.

What ACTUALLY happened was that the Argentinians were hurling abuse at the Germans during the shoot-out, which is why Tim Borowski, scorer of Germany's 4th pen, put his finger to his lips to tell them to shut it after he scored. After the shoot-out it all kicked off, Cufre shunted Mertesacker in the gonads, Maxi Rodriguez attempted to take Schweinsteiger's head off with his fist, and Frings apparently smacked someone too, off camera though. Heinze the little bitch was throwing his weight around trying to kick up a fuss but to no avail. That's pretty much it.

bloody Germans, theyve always been bad winners
stil lat least the Argies showed theyve got some passion and feeling for their country, more than our waste of space 18 knobends did (of course excl the Spurs quartet and the injured Owen)

I think Rooney and Hargreaves should be excluded from that 18....I have no gripes about either of them during the tournamnet, Rooney was terribly misused by Sven and Hargreaves was superb Vs Sweden and Portugal, what a ****in engine!!! Rooney's passion was there for all to see, more so in the case where he got sent off.

I'd say 15 then, cause Terry cannot be faulted for effort.

Who doesn't make mistakes? But at least he played his heart out, unlike Ferdinand who was just strolling around most of the time.

I'm not questioning his ability or effort. Just pointed it out....

It's been said before , many of the players did not perform to their best , and club loyalty aside , the ONLY person I blame is SGE. He picked 4 forwards, Owen who was just recovering from an injury , Walcott who he must have been paid to take , Rooney who's fitness and sharpness was questionable and a circus performer. His entire World Cup strategy was that the defense would let no goals in and Lampard and Gerrard would score loads of goals from midfield. I mistrust anyone in football who has no emotion. I would prefer English but for gods sake give me someone who cares about winning.

Yeah, and I guess a lot of them were demoralised.

True, doubtless the blame must be laid the the Charlatans door (SGE, not the band!) but I am still of the opinion that the players should have been ambitious and professional enough to throw off the shakles of Erikssons base management and attempt to play the game the way they know.
I find it very difficult to accept that the players, most of whom had been internationals prior to Sven's stewardship, did not have either the tactical knowledge or possibly the sheer guts to over rule Sven's patently incorrect and incompetent tactics. The fact of the matter is that it was easier to say "oh we were told to play like that" rather than "the coach is leaving at the end of the tornament, there will be no repercussions to ignoring his tactics, team selection etc and we just desparately want to prove to the world and our nation that we are the best generation of footballer produced in 40 years". OK, I'll be the first to admit that this is not a likley scenario but, England's approach to the tournament wasn't exactly seemless. How many other nations would have;
a. announce that they will part company with their coach prior to commencing a tournament which they had high (inflated?) hopes of winning
b. pin all their hopes and expectaions on a 20 year old boy with a broken foot
c. take four (three really) recognised strikers to the most demanding football tournament ever, two of whom were unfit and two of whom were not good enough.
d. take a 14 year old who has never kicked a ball in his life but his Daddy rang the coach and asked if he could play.
e. choose a captain with no leadership skills and an ego to match Mussolini.
f. whip-up national expectition to a totally unjustifiable level on the basis that "we are the only team who has been preparing with this World Cup in mind for over a decade". Really, so apparently Germany, Brazil, Argentina, Italy etc all just turn up with no planning and just pray they can beat England who obviously have an outstanding record in international tournaments.
It's just a thought!!!

absolutely, they only play for their club colours, the champions league means more to them that the world cup , thing is the next england home game will still be a sell out, it should be boycotted .
Only play in form players no matter how much expereince they have, form outweighs experience imo.
Look at Lennon, no international experience yet done more in his few minutes than Lampard did in his 5 matches. SG only scored a last minute goal in a match we' already won and a goal in the semi-meaningless last group game ie when there was no pressure he stepped up , give him pressure in an England shirt and he bottles it, ditto Joe Cole goal in meaningless pressure free match .
still at least we never cheated , maybe next time we should, everyone else did and Blatter done sweet FA about it yet moaned about our play
ps why wasnt that death defying Swiss **** at the final ?? have my wishes come true ??
