I have been sent a riddle by a collegue and it is driving me nuts! Can anyone answer this or give me a hand otherwise I will be kept awake tonight thinking about it;
In London, Spurs and Arsenal could do it, as could Chelsea and West Ham. Both Manchester City and United could also do it. Everton and Rangers could do it, but not Liverpool and Celtic.
The only British Clubs that could do it this season are Man United (who would probably prefer not to) and Arsenal (who have gone closest so far and are desperate to do it)
It would take Everton and City the longest to do it.
There is only one other British Club that could do it. Who are they and What is it?
Is it anything to do with clubs who have floated on the stock market?

That's a killer, I have no idea. Although I don't think it is to do with the stock market.
Something maybe to with European competitions?

Agreed, don't think it's todo with the stock exchange.
At first, I was thinking it was to do with Euro comp also, but why can't Liverpool or Celtic do it then?
I've also been thinking along the lines of songs (purely because Liverpool and Celtic both use "You'll never walk alone", but can't work any thing out from that either.
Hmmm, will keep thinking about it for you though.

But Everton and City are not in European competition this season?
The only link between these clubs is the fact that they have all floated on the stock market and Newcastle are the only remaining Premiership side (including Scotland) who are not mentioned here. This is really annoying me!

Cheers, I'm going to get the sack over this one, have even asked one of my partners who gave me a funny look and murmered something about priorities. This IS a priority, I will go mad if I can't find the answer.

I do hope not, someone will have to die if it is, I have to account for every minute of my working day, how do I justify spending 3 hours researching a football riddle!

just tell your boss the riddle and he'll soon waste hours trying to figure it out and then you'll be off the hook

is it they could have won all the competitions over the years, fa cup ,league cup, UEFA cup ,cup winners cup or fairs cup, Champs League, relative domestic league ???
some like Man C and Everton will need a few seasons to do this, others may only be lacking one trophy ie Man U uefa cup, theyd not want to win it tho as would mean theyre out the CL , Arsenal got close last season ??
so whos left??? someone who won the cup winners of fairs cup before it stopped???

Could it be something to do with the champions league? Could the other club be forest as it says british club and not premier league club?

mjbmedia, I like that answer, I'm sure that's it, Liverpool and Celtic can't do it, because they've already done. Sounds good to me. Well done!
And Turkish, Forest is a good call on the other club. I think this riddle may have been solved.

I have n't got a definative answer as of yet , but I suspect the answer is to do with winning the full set of Domestioc and European honours. Hope this has n't taken up as much of your time as it has mine!!!! I will keep you posted when I get the full answer.
You will all be pleased to know that my mate has posted the same riddle on a Pompey forum and the answers are shall we say less than intelligent, so we are officially more clever than a load of Pompey!

Us cleverer than Pompey fans? Well that is a no-brainer.
Let's face it Pompey fans think Defoe is going to them for 2mil + a bag of salt and vinegar crisps.

Found this on another site after alot of searching.
It is indeed Win all the European Cups. - Aberdeen
The they can do it and they can't business revolves around the fact that the Cup Winners Cup no longer exists as it was combined with the Uefa Cup in 99/2000 so only teams that have won it have any chance of completing the set.
Don't know if it is right.

8th July 2006, 04:20 PM
Sorry, if it's meant for all European competitions, we cannot achieve it, as though we've won the Uefa Cup before, we did not and can never win its predecessor,i.e. the Inter-City Fairs Cup. I think it is only Leeds United from England who had won this trophy.
mjbmedia
8th July 2006, 04:41 PM
yeh but i think the inter-city fairs cup then became the uefa so , for the sake of this riddle i would assume its counted as one and the same

The only British Clubs that could do it this season are Man United (who would probably prefer not to)
Some people have said it's about winning all the trophies (domestic and European) but in that case why would Man U not want to.... oh right! Just worked it out, Man U could drop out of Champs into UEFA to win that.
Actually I think it's just about joining the group of clubs who have a complete set of European trophies (I think Ajax, Barcelona, Juventus, maybe some others?), don't think it's about domestic trophies.

I posted the riddle on another forum, :o , and eventually someone posted this,
It's to do with winning all three European Club tournaments (CL, Cup Winners, & UEFA).
Most of the teams on here have won the Cup Winners Cup, which is the hardest to win as it's no longer played for anymore.
Liverpool and Celtic never won this competition, so they cannot complete the treble, despite having won the CL & UEFA.
Man U are missing the UEFA & Arse the CL, so they could do it this season.
Everton and Man City would take the longest as they have to win two trophies, having won the Cup Winners previously.
And the answer to the last question is Aberdeen..
