Anyone else read yesterday that Commolli has apparently been trying to persuade Roberto A to join end of this coming season? Notwithstanding his age, would be good to sign a Word Class Argie again.......

Hey? I don't understand. Do you mean we will look to sign him at the end of the 2006/7 season or on a one year contract which terminates at the end of this season? Is n't he in his mid-30's now, not that he's not one of the worlds best, I just wonder how he'd cope with the pace of the Premiership? I'd still take him though, if nothing else Ledders could learn a thing or two about defending and being a leader from old Roberto.

i think other naybet like player is a good idea, no point paying good money for the likes of davies, only for him not to play and want to leave next year at a loss to the club. Our reserve team guys should be ready to step up after this year.

Absolutely spot on. I for one admire the Cockerel's youth/English spending policy over the last 2 years, and believe it will yield us success (it has already...UEFA cup). However, as the recruitment of Edgar Davids shows, there is no substitute for an experienced hand geeing up the youngsters and inspiring them to new heights. I am sure Dawson for one, before he gets his Englad cap and gains epxerience that route, can only benefit from playing alongside the likes of Ayala (no disrespect to Ledley)

Ayala is a quality Defender... and would be great for the younger defenders to learn from... like Naybet did for the 2 seasons just gone as someone said b4..
Loadas experiance at all Levels.. + all our CB's are under the age of 26

Damn right, Ayala was one of the best defenders at the world cup. His reading of the game is quality, Ledley and Dawson could learn a lot from him. He would also give us real European experience which we lack.

Now that King has acquired the necessay leadership and experience, we shouldn't be signing such veterans anymore, as after 1 season, new adjustments will have to be considered again. We should be looking at people who can give us a solid 4-5 years service.

this would be a great idea, i didnt even want us to release Naybet as i am a huge fan of having experienced players around such a young squad. as well as all the qualities everyone has listed, he is also great in the air, both at defending ariel attacks and in attacking the ball in set pieces, a very valuable skill and one that ledders shows potential for as at the beginning of the season he scored a few off his head. Ayala would be a great signing

Ayala is a top quality defender.... But I don't want to see us pay to much in wages for a player we don't really need...

Good player, we don't need him though, we have defenders wanting out already coz we have a top-notch partnership in place.....also a bit suspect with headers....but what Argentine isn't? :p

We had all but agreed to sign him on a free at the end of the coming season. Although now DC is trying to get him for this season by offering a signing on bonus that wasn't part of the original deal.
I think we'd be better to get him for this season. As the midfielders have learnt so much from Davids (with him staying behind at training with the likes of Aaron Lennon). In fact the entire team last season seemed to take a Edgar Davids type never say die/fight for your life type attitude, which was great to see.
Ayala could pass on a wealth of experience to Davenport, Garder, Dawson, Dervitte & even Ledders could pick up a few things. He'd be particularly valuable (along with Davids) on our European campaign.

Davids and Ayala would be feckn great to have at Spurs and like everyone has said bar 1 or 2 idiots the wealth of experience they'd pass on to our young team would be invaluable.
Ledley is a top quality defender, but still needs to learn a thing or 2 about being a captian and a player like Ayala could really take him to the next level and help him become one of the greatest ever defenders.
It would be great if they could both be convinced to stay on as coaches when they do finally decide to hang up their boots.

But what would be our starting pair at centre back? Ayala and King I guess, leaving Dawson on the bench? Don't think he would be too happy seeing as how he was sh** hot last season!

King and Dawson would still be our main pairing, but Ayala would be great playing against european teams and in training he'd have a similar effect as Davids had on our midfielders only with the defence.

yeah, if we were to sign Ayala he wouldnt go straight in to the first XI. he would be sort of like Naybet was last season except he would definately play more than him

Who would you drop to make place for him?

we wouldn't drop anybody, because squad rotation is going to play a major part in us achieving success next season in europe and the league.;)

precisely, the rotation and fitness of the squad will be key in our assault on the top 4 next season

Ayala's just proved himself to be one of the world's best central defenders and he's going to come to Tottenham to sit on the bench, show our youngsters a good example and play in the odd game... I bet he can't wait!
Players don't like squad rotation. They may not mind being rested sometimes, but they'll want to play most of the time! King, Dawson and Ayala can't all get 50 games in the season!

its a very good thing when players dont like squad rotation, it shows their eagerness to play. it increases competition so gets the best out of all the players which is what we want

I agree but if you're a player of Ayala's stature you want some kind of assurance that you're going to be playing most games.
Surely Ayala would play if we signed him, so who would people choose to partner him (most of the time!)

I don't think we will sign Ayala. It's rather inconceivable to break up the partnership of Dawson and King now, this is the perfect chance for it to progress further after an outstanding season last year. They can develop into the finest centre-half pairing in the EPL. No doubt.

Don't think so either.
