bit of a surprise that one, not only his destination but the fact that we didn't complete. Wonder what we're planning instead. Weren't that many strikers at world cup who excelled. Thought prso played well, more of a big hold up man than pacey though. Not sure if berby covers big hold up type player. Would still like lua lua myself, can play wide both sides also so would be good 4th striker. Notable he hasn't renewed his contract at pompey.

Not too disappointed we missed out to be honest and the club obviously saw something which prevented us from completing a deal, as he was ours for the taking. Plenty of talk from some quarters that he turned up at Spurs for his medical half-cut from the night before. Thing the kid is trouble and for a player of such reported potential his goal-ratio is extremely poor. Would rather we sign someone else, or if no-one is available, even save the cash til January and go with defoe, keane and berbatov.

Agree with above post, and don't forget Barnard, would like to see him get a chance this season.

saved ourselves a lot of bother "missing out" on crappy cole. could see harewood go to newcastle now. that will keep the barcodes away from defoe.

Bit of a surprise after all the talk about him coming to us, hope this means we are going to keep Defoe and give Barnard more games.

yeah id like to see barney given more of a go in the first team and now that El Hamdaoui has gone there's less competition

You don't want him even as 4th choice? It's pretty difficult to get someone better than him content to sit on the bench.

I don't believe in fourth choice. I believe in Squad rotation and having the best possible players at your disposal then using them in combinations and tactics that compliment their styles to maximum effect.
If I've got 4 strikers I expect to use them all, the selection depending on form, tactics and the opposition. I don't want a '4th choice' waiting for someone to get injured, content on the bench, I want four strikers who are all competing week-in week-out with each other, all desperate to play.
