View Full Version : Drogba's Ban

I know this was a while ago now, but seeing Burnley on TV yesterday reminded me of something I thought when I heard about this incident. I don't know if the Burnley fan who threw the coin was ever caught or not, but I read that if he was, he would get a life ban from football grounds. Which is fine by me. But can anyone tell me why this fan, who has paid to be in the ground, gets a lifetime ban, and Didier Drogba, who is paid many thousands to play football and be a professional, will sit in the stands for 3 games as punishment? This man is meant to be a role model, what he did was much worse than what the Burnley fan did, he was endangering all the people in the area he threw it at, and could even have hit a child. Only one person threw that coin, but Drogba could have hit any innocent person amongst that crowd. What's more, thousands of young, impressionable Chelsea fans would be watching, and reading about it, and seeing that he just gets a three match ban for throwing a coin at 99% innocent visiting supporters. Some role model. And yet while the fan gets a life ban, Drogba gets a three match ban. Why? How is that fair, when two men commit the same offence, one is banned for life, and the worse offender is banned for three games. What a disgrace.

a very logical post.
if the fan gets a lifetime ban why shouldnt drogba?
the answer is simple.
drogba plays for chelsea who plays in the premier league and there is almost certainly some kind of law that ensures a lifetime ban is impossible.
but I think he should have got a much longer ban together with an astronomical fine say 3 months (about £1.5m). I bet drogba wont throw a coin again if he got that punishment

exactly. Even that would have been better, but he didn't even get what you'd call a slap on the wrist. Robbie Keane v Birmingham, and Didier Zokora v Man City last year got the same punishment for their moderately bad, yellow card worthy tackles, as he has for this.

Footballers get away with too much these days. They are like superstars, Nobody is allowed to touch them. Just because they can kick a football better than other people doesnt mean they should be untouchable.
