Dimitar Berbatov says goodbye
All of the Bayer 04 supporters would have preferred to see Dimitar Berbatov take to the field with the squad today. But as we all know Berbatov will ply his trade in England in the future. However, the striker did turn up on Monday to say goodbye to the management.
“I had a great time in Leverkusen and always felt very much at home here. That is why I wanted to thank the club for the backing and the trust it put in me,” said Berbatov who will player for Tottenham Hotspur in the years to come.
“Berbatov is not only one of the best strikers in Europe. He is also a very pleasant person. He will be a hit in London,” said managing director Wolfgang Holzhäuser.
Final date?
Sporting director Rudi Völler hopes that he will see Berbatov again see. “Tottenham have also qualified for the UEFA Cup. I hope we come up against each other in the final,” said Völler.
Sporting manager Michael Reschke, who accompanied Berbatov when he played his first games for the Bayer reserves, is not at all surprised that the Bulgarian international is one of the leading strikers in Europe. “We saw his huge potential quickly and signed him from Sofia at a young age. He improved every year and I am very sorry to see him go.”
