I would never ever boo/take the mick/not support one of our players (yes even jj,zok, and BAE).
I was embaressed by some (a few thousand) who joined in with the ironic cheering.
HE IS trying his best ffs an it doesnt help when your own fans get on your back. Harry obviously doesnt think sanchez is a worse option/ gomeswill come good SO SUPPORT OUR PLAYERS!!!!!!!!
If harry wants to replace him he wont be able to until January so why dont we jusr support him.
We should realise his confidence is rock bottom and it isnt helping his confidence with thousands of fans taking the piss.
If you think he will always be shit fine but that isnt the way to let out your feelings afterall its harrys decision.

Others at the game said they weren't 'ironic cheers' as they are now known thanks to Sky.
In fact, people at the game are applauding those who done it for doing it.

dont understand that , they were the sort of cheers normallly directed at the opposition to undermine them , not your own team

It wasn't entirely clear and easily open to misinterpretation. That's why I considered hearty applause would have been more appropriate. That kind of cheering is always going to sound sarcastic, especially with Robbo being in the opposing goal.

Its a shame if this is true, we should get behind gomes and with a clean sheet, decent performance hopefully gomes can take confidence from this.
I hope tony parks works his magic with him.

And were the Blackburn fans quiet too? Others saying not, so majority of noise may have been coming from there?
You were there so you can put that straight, but again, others saying B'Burn fans had alot to do with it.
Aside from the point, what he needs is to be dropped, not cheered or boo'ed or anything else.
I will also add someone mentioned that after some of these 'ironic cheers' that Gomes' name was being sung...is that 'ironic singing' then?

Oh, and Gomes started clapping the fans...:confused1:
Now if it were 'ironic cheers' that would be ironic.

Harry Redknapp has just been on BBC 5 Live having a minor moan at the Spurs fans for their ironic cheering of calamity keeper Heurelho Gomes today. "They don't realise it's not helpful," said Redknapp.
so harry, me and a couple of my mates were just hearing things. There was definatly some ironic cheering from our fans. Blackbyrn fans joined in as well but you would be foolish to believe there werent a few hundred/thousand that were part of the ironic cheering.
Accept it because it happened and we should make sure it doesnt happen again.

It came across to me as genuine applause... he didn't really have much to do in the game, so the fact that he was being cheered for small contributions could come across as sarcastic I suppose.

Spoonaldo and Spoony has just posted this on COYS. It answers part of this debate:
We all know there are different factions amongst our support. I suspect that there were those in the ground who were also irritated by the ironic cheering & that prompted the genuine support in the shape of the song.
I've heard it many times. The most obvious example in recent memory was at Pompey. An element of the Spurs support were getting started on "You don't know what you're doing" & "We want Ramos out" which prompted the superb sustained "We love you Tottenham" chant that went on for the last 10 minutes - mainly to drown out those non inclined to support the team.
My brother just come in from the game, said he met Gomes after the match and he was in high spirits. Said his bird was mint too.
The other part of the debate would be that people have paid shitloads of money to go today, they not allowed to show frustration, relief - only support?

I did hear the cheers on the broadcast, and to me they sounded ironic. But they might have been mixed with a sincere element of support and appreciation. Whatever, it's the kind of thing that A*****l fans would do, so I hope this is an isolated display.

they pay their money so they can do shiw ther support as they wish. But it DOESNT HELP GOMES!= DOESNT HELP SPURS.
Did I say they dont have a right to show frustration, relief.

Where is the shock in this?.Numerous players over the years have had 'ironic' cheers and boo's from the fans at WHL.I can remember Chris Waddle getting the same treatment during his first year.Terry Fenwick suffered even worse (although justifiably,as he was the dictionary definition of shite).I think this is where we get the 'fickle' tag from.If truth be told,it dosen't take much for Spurs fans to turn on their own players.

The funny thing is (some would say ironic) that the majority of posts on COYS and SO are stating they were cheering our keeper on, and that the cheers and singing of Gomes' name was genuine support.
I'm sure some wasn't, but it like I say, Spurs fans who went to the game don't know what people are moaning about.
Some suggesting that during the first half they were sarcastic cheers (such a better word to use than ironic btw - Sky commentators being ****s like usual) but much of the second half was genuine support, I would suspect ala the above example with the Pompey game.

I would assume it was, because we were winning against 10 men, but it's easy to see why outside observers saw it as taunting him. I thought last week's chants of "There's only one Gomes" after his gaff were being sung by our fans, but apparently it was the Fulham fans.

I remember when Justin Edinburgh was coming on as a sub once and the crowd were booing him.Afterwards he said that "the crowd weren't booing me.I think that they were booing the fact that a defender was coming on for an attacker".Yeah right you deluded cnut.
Anyway back to today. No it probably won't help Gomes, but to be fair,he hasn't exactly helped himself so far.For decades Spurs fans have targetted certain players and made the management aware of their displeasure at this player being picked for the team.Dean Richards anyone?.People accept someone who tries. But they don't accept someone who tries but is costing the team points.

This has been over-blown to the extreme. I was sitting in the East Stand today, right next to the South, and OK there were a few ironic cheers, but it was all in good nature. There were also chants of 'We love you Gomes, we do' and 'Brazil's no. 1', which showed how everyone is behind the guy completely. I'd rather the odd ironic, humorous cheer than booing the guy, and anyone who has been 'disgusted' by this needs to sort their lives out tbh.

Yeah, that was their answer throughout the whole match to an unfortunate steward who had the job of attempting to get the fans to sit down. Poor sod had an impossible job.

i dont think they were being ironic, i think they were genuine supportive cheers.
They didnt go on for ages like most piss taking things would, they didnt sound wierd ie they were definite cheers not like the noises made after away keepers kick the ball etc.
sure the dumbass Sky commentators said it was mickey taking, but then theyre the thickest asses in football who many time got Hudd /Lennon and JJ mixed up.
I repeat, i think they were majority supportive

Well I was there as ususal, there was no doubt in my mind and in the minds of all those around me that the cheers for Gomes were, without question, ironic in the extreme. All regular attendees were appalled by the crass studipity of our so-called supporters, it appears that they believe that by hounding Gomes he will in some way imporove or disappear. Clearly Harry has decided to play Gomes regardless of form, the best thing to do is to give him (Gomes) every encouragement and hope that he comes though this dodgy spell.
Incidentally, the guy I sit next too had just got back from Brazil where he met a Palmerias scout. Said scout told him that Gomes is considered a liability in Brazil! Given that most Brazilians think Tafarel and Dida were world class keepers, their opinion is damning indeed!

Afterall, thats what people were doing - singing his name, there'sonly one Gomes, Brazil's #1 etc etc.

What pissed harry and fans off was the "woooooooaaaaaa" before he kicked the ball. Also cheering when he catches the ball in any situation. Your a keeper spur would it help you pal if they cheered you just catching the ball?
