View Full Version : If anyone thought we could have won this World Cup..

..then tonight's match must surely be the wake-up call they needed. Two teams playing to the utmost of their ability, playing as units and with a belief that was utterly awe-inspiring - we wouldn't have stood a chance against either of tonight's contestants.
Either Italy or Germany would have been worthy finalists and indeed winners on tonights display - my hat goes off to Germany for such an inspired and tireless performance, but my support in the final will now, most definitely, be with the Azzuri.
What a truly phenomenal game - if this World Cup desperately needed an advertisment, it got it tonight. As the old cliche goes, football was tonight's real winner.

Agree with you there, it was good to see the ref let the game flow, and not feel the need to blow his whistles every two seconds, it really helped create a truly great game of football.
I gotta big up Jurgen, he put everything into turning a mediocre German side into potential World Cup winners, never mind, it was not to be.

it was a fabulous game with a hollywood finish. so glad italy did not have to suffer relentless german efficiency of penalty taking. i must admit there was a little bit of bottled up emotion on my part, that wasnt used on saturday, when italy scored their goals. surely candidates for goals of the tournament. i think most english fans now have a soft spot for italy to win. bit like when we wanted rep of ireland to win in 94. except for my friend's neighbour who is scottish and could be heard cheering very loudly when ronaldo scored the winning portugese penalty on saturday by a crowd of his guests gathered in his garden for a bbq.

Gotta love those Scots...but to be fair, it's not really any different to us donning our Barcelona gear at the CL final... To expect the Scots is to support us is just daft - who on earth wishes their oldest rivals to do well?
If only tonight's match had been the final - that truly would have been one to remember!

what a semi, the best for ages if not in my memory. the ref didnt follow fifa directives and it made for a cracking match, Blatter please learn from that and shut your fat bald Swiss head up next time, if youre still around.

Game of the tournament so far.... Also hats of to the Ref, who let the game flow and didn't give early bookings when he could off... which made it a much better game
Both Italy and Germany were absolute brilliant.... defending was amazing by both teams... both teams gave it their all and it was an end to end game...
I was happy to see Italy show they could play attacking football and it was great to watch

What a great game and what an amazing finish, i have to agree with gregzy, it would have made a great final. It shows that underneath all the controversy and cheating, the game we all adore is still there.

A great game and I suprised myself in wanting Italy to win by the end. I was expecting them to be defensive and to play act but they were the opposite, they took the game to Germany and when tackled shook hands with the oponent and got on with it. A great advert for the world cup.
Perhaps it's no coincidence that all the Italian players are based in Italy?

90 seconds away from a penalty shoot-out, (and Germany are great at them, as we all know) and it's cruelly taken from you, just like that. It's just a pity Frings couldn't play, I'm convinced Germany could have done better with him.
The only team I hate more in the World than Portugal is Italy.....so I'll be supporting France (for Zizou, not the scummers) on Sunday.

For the sake of someone like Zizou, I'd also wish France win. But the Italians are a more solid team than France, so my head turns against my heart and tells me Italy will win.
In the semi-final, weariness is quite apparent in many French players: being second to loose balls, losing their foot-hold, and the inability to really turn quick. Their left side offense and defense are the real weakness, Malouda didn't threaten in attack and Abidal was really bad in defense. And the Italians are best going forward on the right.

i reckon the goal of the tournament will be scored this weekend
shame about the ref in the final, lets hope he sees who fouls who first, and handballs in the area this time.
the one who reffed the italy semi should have got it but they seem to do refs who have not reffed either team before no matter if others are better
