im not sure if Assou-Ekotto will go straight in at left back, id like to think we will sign a RB & LM to almost complete the team. i cant really be bothered to do a spurs team at the moment until we find out who we sign and how the midfield will work etc

I suppose if the Frenchy goes to LB, the best thing to do if we don't sign a RB is to switch Lee there.

have said it before, but think we will change the formation a bit and play in a 4-3-2-1 with Lennon and Keane playing off Berba or defoe...
Robbo
Lee, King, Daws, Ekotto
JJ, Carrick/Zokora, Davids/Tainio
Lennon, Keane
Berba/defoe
And then i would like to see Hudds get some more first team chances, he has really impressed me when he's got the chance...

i see you all think carrick will still be here.I think he is going therefore midfield will be Jenas,Zokora & Tianio with Lennon & Defoe/Keane behind Berbatov.

I think Lee is a good player and bar afew costly mistakes Salty really wasn't that bad last season. They've got their first season in the EPL behind them and will most likely be better this upcoming season. Competition is good though so a new RB wouldn't be a bad thing so him and Salty can compete for the spot.

agree that they are good players. Still, the other top clubs have better RB and LB. So, we need to upgrade...

i think lee has been very good defensively, haven't seen too many get round him, just one silly mistake against manyoo. I don't think there are many better than him and he has a great attitude. no more edman hand balls or edinburgh tantrums. Worthy of the shirt in my opinion. I was also impressed by degen but thought he was right mid not full back.

This formation looks great, especially if we can improve the two fullbacks, having Defoe and Routledge as cover for the front three makes
our attacking options look really strong, however it also shows we need more
cover at center back if were gonna sell Davenport.

If we cannot get a RB in, switch Lee over to the right and play the new Frenchy, Ekotto on the left.

I dont think Keane's place in the starting 11 this season will be as clear cut as the last.

Just wondering what kind of defender Ekotto is. His built, looking at the photos doesn't suggest a hard tackler, but the mobile attacking type. So we could end up like the Dutch team, attacking in triangles of Lennon, Jenas and Lee on the right; and Duff, Keane and Ekotto on the left.

That will depend on if the Duff deal goes through. Duff and Keane have shown how well they can link up for ROI, and if they can reproduce some of that magic then Defoe will struggle to get back in. (Although with the amount of games we are aiming to play this season, I'm sure he will still get plenty of starts)

Just being a bit greedy, hope we can upgrade the RB position as well. Then we'll go a long way.

The full-backs are definately our weakest positions but I think Lee will be good at RB, he is right-footed and played RB for SK at the WC very well.
I'm just not sure of the quality of Ekotto, but we shall soon see what he's made of.
Chinaman
17th July 2006, 01:52 PM
Ekotto has been described as the best LB prospect in France, so should not be a major problem. Lee was good in the WC ar RB but was really not tested as he wasn't matched up with top grade left wingers. I'd like to see a relatively stronger built guy there as Lennon is too lightweight to be expected to lend an effective hand in defense on the right side. Ideally someone with Salty's build with Lee's brain.
England's No.1
17th July 2006, 02:16 PM
I have to disagree with you about Lennon, he looks lightweight, but IMHO, he looks not only capable of taking a bad tackle, but tracking back and winning the ball back, I even remember seeing him doing it at the WC for England (which considering how little play time he got says something).
shoot_ffs
17th July 2006, 02:21 PM
i think lennon has a long way to go, but we don't need everyone to be combative, he's going to be one of the best wingers in the world over the next 10 years. he's only played a couple of full games at prem level so he needs time.
hope routledge will stay and fight for a place but can't see him getting much more than bench time.
Chinaman
17th July 2006, 02:33 PM
If we have a very solid FB, there's not much need for Lennon to track back. And I'd rather he stays in front all the time as his speed will be most useful when a quick ball is played up to him as we switch from defense to counter-attack.
