Apparently we have moved our attention to Denilson after Duff signed a new contract at Chelsea, what do you guys think of the prospect of having the former most expensive player in the world playing for us?

Apparantley he'd be free so nothing to lose really, give him a 1 year deal with an option like we gave Edgar and see how he goes.
Having said that not sure he'd make it in the English game, he struggled in spain but probably worth a punt.

i think he's overrated, we need quality but if he's too old in a year we have to start all over again.

Denilson, hmmmm. I really don't think this would be a progressive signing although it may raise our worldwide profile and allow us to approach better South American players. IMO Denilson is the sort of player Joe Cole would have become without Mourinho's input, basically a highly entertaining, lightweight footballer who does not deliver. Frankly Denilson was an expensive faliure at Betis and failed last season at Bordeux, which begs the question why on earth would we want him?

He's only 28 and for free you cant grumble at that, i think he is definently worth a 1 year deal, the way its looking its either £8mill+ for downing or denilson for free, i know what i would prefer.

Sure, I'd agree on that but then I would n't give you a thank you for Downing. I just don't see what all the fuss is about, he's basically a second rate, left-footed version of Beckham and we have established just how effective Beckham is at an international tournament. England would have been better off playing Bridge at left-back and Cole left-wing rather than bringing on Downing.

P.S: Hooray, I'm finally worth £1 million, a bargain if you ask me!

I'd love to see denilson at the Lane, If MJ can keep him focused and out of trouble we'd have a real star on our hands. We need wingers that can beat their man, we already have the right side sorted, for me denilson would be ideal on the left.

I agree i dont see what the fuss is about downing either, he always looks to go past players but never has the pace to actually get past them and deliver a cross! I think it is because he is left footed and if you look around the world there is a huge shortage of good left footed wingers, if he was right footed he would be nothing more than average but because 1 in 10 people are left footed it makes his stock rise.

I'd apply much caution in buying any South American, and for a Spurs fan to say this, that is something. The list of previous recent successes from the continent is hardly long, and even those who have shone (Juninho, Asprilla) have done so sporadically, for short periods, and have had these spells interrupted by long breaks for one reason or another, usually in the winter months (viz Emerson & Middlesboro)

However, it certainly fits our tradition to sign such a player. I agree that a 1 year, pay as you play, punt would not hurt too much......

I doubt he'll cut it in the EPL if he can't even shine in the slower Spanish and French leagues where greater emphasis is on skills. But if he's available for free and doesn't demand out of whack wages, might be worth a try; at least he should be able to show some of his ball skills to the young lads on the training pitch so hopefully they can learn something. He may also be useful when the pitches are firm and when we are up against European sides when we need to slow the game down a bit.

Exactly, what worries me is that if you can see it and I can see, then why do the press think he's so great and (more worryingly) what does BMJ see in him? Funnily enough I do think he'd make a decent left-back!

Ain't bad isn't enough for Spurs. You must be real good to make it. Or better still, if you've got some of Houdini's magic, and I don't mean the disappearing act.;)

he probably would be a decent left back, the full back position is arguably the easiest position to play, and with the way football has evolved this position is no longer seen as all about defending there is a huge emphasis on being able to attack. If you look at some of the best full backs around the majority began there careers as average wingers and moved to the full back position eg: Carlos, Cole, Evra, Sorin, Cicinho etc etc

For a while now i have thought that Jenas could be our right back, he has all the attributes needed eg: pace, stamina, composure, height.

No, but you might want to give MacLaren a call (Steve not Tom ;)).

Me too! I once saw him play right wing-back for the barcodes and he was awesome, the only problem I can see is that he's not a clean tackler and thus would probably get a fair few bookings. Do you want to tell Big Mart or shall I? We'll split the difference we've saved the club on a new right-back.

Two things concern me about that link.

1. It calls Denilson a 'Brazilian ace'. Was he even in the WC squad?
2. I can't find any link to confirm Duff has signed a new contract.

newsnow.com has all the latest gossip, just go to the home page and you will see loads of pull-down bars on the right hand side. Go to the football section and hit the letter "T" on your keyboard twice and then hit return.......

Bear in mind that a lot of the articles on there are duplicate and there is a lot of bullshit to wade through.

Lol, im glad someone can see the same things as i see (at least im not the only one who is mad!) but seriously, it would save us buying a right back we have an abundance of centre midfieldersand would aid Jenas' quest for international football as Neville is getting on a bit at 31.

Yep, if he's free give him a go. I think we should still pursue Downing (although not at £8m) though, just to keep up our policy of buying the future England team!

Jenas at right back is a great shout. leaves zokora and carrick to run the centre and lennon and ? to bring the width/pace. please please please will people stop naming tainio in their first elevens! denilson is a two steps back signing. a has been on huge wages who may not fancy playing at grimsby on a wet tuesday night in the carling cup. davids nose dived last season and denilson would too. if spurs want to make an impact offer huge money for robben or robinho.
