Just wondering what you all thought of the booing of robbie keane by the spurs fans today. Do you think it was warranted or completely out of order? Seemed the majority thought it was right.

out of order - after everything he did for us. As some have said (including me a while ago) imagine if one of us was playing for a uefa cup team, when spurs come in for us, we'd be gone, even if they didn't have champions league, which in this hypothetical situation they do, as pool do. i wasn't planning on applauding him, but as there were so many jeering i joined in the applause when he went off to try to help to drown it out.

where I was in the east stand upper there was a mixed reception. There were more boos as the match progressed I think.
It is probably a bit harsh to boo him after all he did give us the best 6 years of his career and a £13m profit.

Sorry i think it bollox, you dont commit to a club saying you want to finish your career here, then fcuk off sharpish when something better comes along, he got all he deserved.

Its also a two way thing, i think 6 years at Spurs also made him a better player.

I applauded him because he did a lot for this club and often produced at important moments for us......If you ask most players at a club how many will say ''oh Im only here to something better comes up?''.....most profess their love and loyalty to the shirt they are wearing and most **** of after giving a lot less than Robbie......

Yeah he was, but Teddy wanted out at that point.
Keane, well it's all been said by others.
A few seasons ago people were booing Carrick.

I would have booed him personally, the way he was after the carling cup last year, Mr Tottenham, then jumped ship, F**K him! Just wish he had stayed on till the final whistle so we could have seen his gob after Pav dinked in the winner!!! COYS

if he'd kept his gob shut after leaving, i doubt he'd have got booed.
But he opened it in an anti Tottenham way (not simply to endear himself to his new fans which id accept) so he gets the boos.
yeh he done good for us while here, but he also missed a load of simple chances and done too many noncy flicks . He was here for a while, but he aint a Spurs legend no way.

There was a piece in the Times today about 'Arry which started by saying he wanted to bring Keane back to the Lane in January, I kid you not. Surely total bollocks... 1) Why would he leave 2) Why would 'Pool sell

he is a legend. 100 goals and 100% in every game, I wasn't around to see the glory days, so i've never seen anyone who had as big an effect as keane on our team, he was brilliant.

The only reason Keane got booed is because the fact that he said he never wanted to be at any other club and pretended to be Mr Tottenham. I wouldnt applaud him after that to be honest..

I love Keane. But he really should have thought about what he said before he said it.
Or at least made a slightly different statement:
"Yeah, I'd love to finish my career at Spurs, I love this club and feel part of the furniture here. I really can't wait to taste even more success after this cup win, so hopefully this is where I can see out my career, it's my spiritual home. Well, unless one of the sky 4 come in with an offer."

The very reason he is being booed is because we are so hurt by his departure, and thats because he was such a great player in our colours - I'd hardly think Stephen Clemence or Gary Doherty would warrant such abuse. Teddy got it, but he came back and all was forgiven, if Keane returned all would be forgiven.
Keane did bad, if he had aspirations of joining Liverpool one day, all he had to do was abstain from comments which describe his intentions to commit his career to Spurs, if he didn't say the remarks, then we could have swallowed his departure, its almost the same as what Sol Campbell did and I maintain that it was the lying to the fans that got up the supporters nose more than the fact that he went to Arsenal, the two together means he'll never be invited to a Spurs legends lunch. Keane one day, will be.
Oh and if you think that was bad, just wait till Berba walks on our turf again.

He deserves everything he gets. Bastard. Read an article with Levy today about how he refused to play for us at the start of the season, only thing that irked me was that Levy said 'we knew he wanted to leave since aug 2007' so why the **** sell Defoe in January? I know we didnt expect Keane's departure but still.....Defoe is a big enough talent and source of goals to be kept even if Keane was still here. Oh, and look now everyone wants him back. :001_rolleyes:

I don't think that's fair, I think liverpool were the only ones that could tempt him, I don't think he'd have gone to Chelsea or Man Utd, and he definitely would not have gone to scum - no one will any more after campbell wrecked his life

Do you really think manure, chelsea or arsenal would want keane for £20.3m.

Had Keane acted with honour (none amongst footballers but some amongst thieves) he would have received a typical Spurs reception. As he shot his mouth off before performing his disappearing act I'd say he couldn't expect a wholly warm reception.
Apart from aything else he had been "tapped" up by Gerrard and Carragher some time ago, and Jamie Redknapp was also encouraging him to hold out for Liverpool, so he knew the bin dippers were interested even before making his "I love this club" statements.

I think we have to realistic here, had Man U come in he would have gone, probably to Chelski too. As for Campbell's career, being an integral player in an undefeated championship winning side must have killed him as a professional.
There are always going to be polar opposites in this debate. In my opinion booing Keane was futile, he gave six years service and then made some ill-advised statements. What a shock a footballer that didn't make the brightest decision before opening their mouth.

I doubt he would have. Your basing this on his boy hood love for lpool which is complete bollox. Professional footballers dont have the same afffection for a club as fans.
Look at rooney, ****ball, cole etc.

just because those players don't have any strong feelings for their respective clubs doesn't mean Keane doesn't. none of them are born as footballers, they start off as fans just like us, and it's entirely possible and likely that some of them retain the love they had for certain teams when they were younger.

Whilst my arse is a bit sore from my constant fence-sitting, this issue doesn't make it any easier for me to get off it.
Keane's departure hurt me alot, as like all of us I really did believe he was going to see the rest of his days out with us. That said, I think he handled the affair prior to his exit in as dignified and respectful way as is possible in football these days. Call me naive, but I think if Levy had hawked Berbatov up the road earlier in the season then Benitez wouldn't have come knocking quite so loudly and Keane would have stayed with us for another season at least.
Keane won't be remembered in the same way as Chivers, Blanchflower, Gazza, Peters, Mabbs etc but for a good long time he was the only thing we had to shout about and is the closest we've had to someone joining those ranks for some time (Ledley notwithstanding)
Boos? I think they were a little harsh to be honest, and had I been there I wouldn't have joined in. I'll be saving my bile for the return of the Gay and the sulk, as I hope everyone else is. However, booing is an expression of emotion, so if you feel moved to do so I ain't gonna whinge.
