Jesus who the hell knows!!! If we put the effort in, and thats a big if, I see us winning particularly if Torres&Gomes dont make it!
I am going for 2-1. Bentley... and Kuyt for them. Modric to score the winner..:001_smile:

I've gone for a win as well. 2-1, time for that scoreline to go our way.
King to lead off the scoring, Bent scores a 2nd (maybe a pen), and Babel scores with 15 to go. Keane to be subbed after 63 minutes.

Liverpool will be full of confidence after their win at Stamford Bridge, we'll be well up for it too but i see this one ending as a draw.

Think it'll be a similar scenario to last night. Full of confidence and we'll be scrapping for it again, but with the increasingly deranged Gomes in goal I fear the worse.
Us to work hard and grab a goal or two through Modric and Bentely's creativity, but for a balls up or two proving our undoing once more. All square for me.

whys that then? they kept chelsea out they will probably keep us out.
I feel if we get the 1st goal we may get something but if we fall behind we are toast. They are made from much sterner stuff than arsenal and they rested players midweek.
Like i say i fancy us for atleast a point but if they play to their best theres only one winner and they aint in white.

As we have taken more points from the last two games than I had anticipated,we certainly could take at least one point on saturday.I absolutely detest Liverpool (although more for the place itself and the inhabitants rather than the team),and would love to see us be the team that ends their unbeaten run.
I think steady progress will be the order of the day however,so i'll say a 1-1 draw.

Our record against 2 of the sky 4 is 5-5 so far.
2 points from 6 against the sky 4
4 points from 24 against the rest.
I can see us getting a draw. We could win but we need to score first.

Heart says 2-1 Spurs in this, the head 0-2 Liverpool.
I think some of you lads are forgetting just how susceptible our defence is to almost anything, Liverpool won't be half as open as Arsenal.
Having watched their match against Chelsea, I honestly can't see us getting any space to really move the ball around, and with our defence we're bound to effing concede at least once during the ninety minutes anyway.
Hope I'm wrong and we follow up Wednesday with a message to the rest of the league, but I'm sorry to be a spoilsport and not go with the euphoria at the moment.

Bolton we despartely needed the win, Wednesday huge derby. This game will be interesting, If Harry can get them up for it and they are really fired up I see us getting a positive result. Liverpool are very good defensively but Modric will get some joy I think.
Who things King will start? Does anyone know if Torres is due to make it?

If Keane scores then I hope he has the respect for us to refrain from celebrating. That would be very respectful of him, especially as he left on pretty much good terms (no abuse) though I guess the Berbatov situation deflected off of him a bit.

Definately, despite our shortcomings in putting a foot in, the raw ability that the players in that midfield possess should compensate for it by creating chances, scoring goals like we know it can.

Hi... lol welcome to the forum :P
Thanks mate, glad I'm the only one who's being a bit negative here as the poll shows, we should on paper be able to give the scousers a good game.
I'm just worried that the frailties in defence will come back and undo the good work that we might accomplish going forward.
I think Modric will be the key, if he can shake of Mascherano who they'll no doubt employ to breathe down his neck all game, then it'll be a significant step in dismantling them.

Personally I think Macsherano may get sent off midway through the 2nd half in this one. I'm sure they'll use him to slow Modric, and Luka's trickiness could cause him problems. 2nd yellow around the 65th.

I think it's going to be a tough and tense game, but if Liverpool look for a sneaky defensive win then I think the 'arry factor will see us through. Reckon King will score if he plays, but I'll hoping for a tight 1-0. If we win we will be off the bottom no doubt and we'll go on to getting some sort of result up in Manchester. The lack of belief was the biggest problem and Ramos did not know how to get into the players' minds. From this time last week I would have taken 4 from 6 because it would have been 1 from 6 under the old management. If we can get that 7 from 9 it'll be the best week in a long time and the club will not look back. We've completely f****d up this season but this is it. A win tomorrow and we'll rocket up the league. COYS get behind the team tomorrow and have a proper siege mentality at the lane. Spurs for life!

Just thinking of formations harry might use and assuming king is fit.
Where does that leave corluka who I thought was excellent at the emirates?
Should Bale play lb or left wing with BAR behind?
Should hutton and gomes keep their places?
Should we start with bent or pav?
I would like to see-
Pav
Modric
Lennon JJ Corluka Bentley
Bale King Wood Hutton
Gomes
I think Harry will go:
Pav
Modric
Bale JJ Hudd Bentley
BAE King Wood Hutton
Gomes

yeah fair point cant disagree, pav has looked a bit sluggish. I just think pav is better suited in a 451. Modric took time to settle look at him now.

do you think corluka should play if king is fit. Or should we just rest him for the cc as ledley will need a rest.
Or we could swap corluka for hudd.
LifeTimeYido

If king was fit it would play King at CB, and put Corluka at RB, Hutton needs time out, long injury and too many games IMO.
If King was out id put Corluka at CB and Gunter at RB.
I still think Hutton is our best RB, but he is playing badly atm, Riera will tear him a new arse hole i think.

I remember watching that City/Pool game and it was quite an attacking performance from Corluka. I think Harry will make as few changes as possible. We have a few players - Gomes, Bale and Hutton - badly out of form and Hutton may make way for Corluka.

Because O'Hara is playing. Who in my opinion is a very unrealiable player that will never get back to defend and basically stand on the field like a pleb.

Bring Bale and Pavy on for O'hara and Zokora. Diamond formation with Hudd sitting deep and modric behind bent and pavy.

The problem is Modric is seeing nothing of the ball and is dropping into our half all the time. May need to be Pav and Lennon on for Hudd and JOH. We've been as poor as we were under Ramos.

A negative midfield who are hiding and not wanting the ball. Everytime o'hara has the ball he passes it backwards and never makes a run forward, he just takes one step forward and two step backwards.
Hudd has done nothing nor has zokora we don't look like scoring. Im not sure what to do because we have three negative midfield players. I think lennon is a must but we won't get the best out of mod if we move him into a 442.
So if we bring pav on we lose that link up player and restrict modrics game and we could end up getting over run in midfield.
choda
1st November 2008, 06:28 PM
Lennon on for O'Hara should pretty much be a given. Hudd is not having his finest game either.
Strange opinions if you ask me, O'Hara hasn't done much wrong, good little player and works hard, Hudd has been decent, good passer of the ball.
Zokora is utterly useless as usual, we need to take him off put O'Hara in the middle, Bale on the left.
If we need a goal we may need to go to three at the back, take off Ekotto for Lennon and have Lennon and Modric in behind Bent and wing backs Bale and Bentley.
Early goal was a disaster, little bit of a freak goal, great strike pinpoint and takes a bit of a dip off a deflection. Hit us before we even got into the game.
If we can score the game would change and pool would have to come out, now they are just playing in two banks of four and it's very hard to play through.

Perhaps that is the thing to start the second half with, sounds like a good idea. I'd been thinking that a diamond may be the way to go in the last week.

F*kcing legend comeback again. Rode our luck looked low on confidence, but then started to play a bit and got rewards, great character by the lads.
Pav made a difference, gives us a bit of presence up there, played well and I thought he looked like a man starting to settle a bit. Great finish, Bent was running the channels well and dovetailing, rubbish that they can't play together.
Maybe a diamond in the next game with Modric in behind. That would solve on central midfield problem and have two up. In fairness Huddlestone had a decent game. Zokora, rubbish.
Central midfield is still a major problem. We get badly overrun for long spells.
Can I just say that Corluka is a wonderful footballer and I retract my comments that he is only a central player, you can play him anywhere defensive. Just a wonderful player, so much poise, class and ability.
And Ledley, well, who is better? No one in the world is as good as him when fit, no one, fact.

Easily the most undeserved Spurs win I've ever seen. That should have been at least 2 nil to Pool. Harry must have a stack of voodoo dolls of managers, and in the second halves he stabs them in the heads to cause them to make take off their most influential players. Just unreal.

HA HA HA HA HA.How can we possibly get relegated now with luck like that?.Our failings are still painfully obvious to everyone, but at least there is some degree of belief in themselves now. There were times during that game when it reminded me of the big four playing against Derby last year and seeing the almighty chasm in class. But somehow we got away with it,just like against Arsenal.
All of us were staring into the abyss this time last week. Then we got a new manager,a win against Bolton,a 4-4 draw at Arsenal and a win against Liverpool. That, even for THFC,is a pretty fcucking eventful week.

The last few games I have seen Keane is becoming very influential, he is one the main reasons Liverpool are up a level to previous seasons. Madness taking him off, but we also made the right changes, credit to Harry and got into the game as a result. Also showed great character and bits of quality again.

We were utterly terrible for 2/3 of the game. Wind back and look at the save Gomes just made, and then the goal he nearly gave away. 3 nil after 70 minutes would have been a fair reflection of the game. The subs at HT didn't make any sense at all(just heard that Claridge said this as well). How did Harry get away with this and then go on to win the game? I suppose part of it is that Corluka is such class that he play in goal and not look out of place. He knew what was going on, I was impressed with what Harry said about the game. He knows English football, sometimes you have to hit the front early, not long ball but feed it in to feet or onto runs into the channels when nothing else is on.
Then that will push people off as they are afraid of being turned and will give you a bit more room, and then you can have the options of playing it on the floor much more.
ManU always do that when they have to.

FANTASTIC.
We were pretty awful in terms of looking for a forward pass until the Carragher og. To be fair we defended well at times but their midfield was too strong for us. We went 4-4-2 to go long as playing the ball in tight midfield areas was clearly not going to work. However we do seem to have character now. Yes we rode our luck but beating a top 4 side and not really threatening for 70 odd minutes isn't bad is it!
The game was crying out for Lennon's introduction.

You're completely wrong and Claridge is a tw*t.
Modric was not in the game and playing through pool was not on when they sit in with banks of defensive players.
Pav coming on was right, gave us a man to hit and hold it up and pushed into them physically.
Lennon came on and was an outlet to stretch the game. He made the right moves at the right times for sure, fair play to Harry. He knew what to do to give us a chance of getting a result.
We don't have the central midfielders or certainly weren't playing them that can pass it through a liverpool, so modric was not going to get the ball.
A diamond may have worked, or maybe not in this game, probably not. What he did worked and brought us into the game.
We did ride our luck, for a spell in the second half, but as we have said that is something we've not enjoyed in the season previous to the last two games. And character often brings luck, look at chelsea over the last four or five years.
There is a different work rate about us and after the luck we responded instead of letting it continue and then we would have lost.
Credit is due. You have to understand where we are coming from and what is required to get results (real basic ugly stuff and character), build confidence and then start to sort out the flaws in our team.
This is a great start and we should all be delighted because this is the right track. You can't expect to outplay pool and arsenal with the current cm's and a team that has to build real confidence etc.
Plus it's not terribly ugly, we still score crackers and well structured goals.

That's what I said - when Keane went off! But let's be realistic, had the game gone as it should have, we wouldn't all be here with happy, smiley faces. I'm more than happy to stuff it to Liverpool after they dominated the game, especially as I've seen so many reverses in the same fashion at Anfield over the years.
But that's football, init? It's about more than possesion, chances and overrunning the oppositions midfield. There is also crucial decisions, tactics, character, taking your foot off the pedal, not putting a game to bed, getting relaxed thinking you have it won, players that come on a make a difference, quality in the opposition and so on.

You're completely wrong. There's no way you were saying those changes made sense at the time. You spent most of the game slagging off Zokora, you hypocrite! We weren't hitting Pav, we weren't doing anything. We looked like a punch drunk boxer!
Still, what do we know? We both backed Ramos as a kind of genius, and he imploded. Part of that is down to Comolli and the ludicrousness of Levy in transfers, but it was clear from the Stoke game onwards that recovery seemed more and more out of sight. What sealed it was Wenger and Rafa both claiming that he shouldn't be sacked.

Heres my ratings...
Gomes 6. looked very shakey on several occasions his confidence is clearly low, made an unbelievable save to deny gerrard a sure goal though.
Corluka 7. Great performance showed he can be very adaptable and looked great going forward.
Woodgate 6. Quiet game from him looked steady under the long balls.
King 7. Had keano in his pocket for most of the game and led by example when we were under pressure late on. Slightly at fault for the goal.
BAE 5. Kuyt dominated him both in the air and on the deck. Badly at fault for their goal wont be sorry to see him go in Jan we need better.
Bentley 7. Struggled to get going but delivered decent set pieces including the corner carra headed into his own net. Stunning strike to set up the winner.
Zokora 6. Must have expected to be an unused sub again did ok considering the late call-up and the fact he was on gerrard. Like BAE not good enough for an ideal spurs lineup. Love his attitude though great squad player.
Hudd 6. Like zokora he was distinctly second best throughout but got slightly better as the game went on. Needs a run in the side to get confidence. Best passer we have and one of the best at shooting.
Modric 6. Never got going showed a few flashes but was well marshaled by pools 2 holding players. He is slowly adapting though will come good.
JOH 5. Anonymous in the first half rightly replaced hes one for the future but this wasent the game for him. Where the **** is bale??
Bent 8. Our best player on the night worked tirelessly in the first half and got his reward in the second by winning the corner for the first goal and setting up Pav for the winner. Legend!
subs.
Hutton 6. Quiet enough when he came on but showed a few touches of class and didnt give riera or benayoun an inch.
Lennon 7. Electric best impact sub in the business. Ran at liverpool and got the crowd going. His passing and crossing is getting better.
Pavlyuchenko 7. Took his goal well to strong for agger and a lovely finish past Reina. Looked well up for it and will get better as he adapts it will take a few months.
Harry 9. MOTM. Inspired substitutions especially brining on lennon when it was one all. Most managers would have took a draw and brought on a defender but he gambled and boy did it pay off!!!

Gomes - 4. Shit, but great save. Got shit loads of stick from our mob too because he kept playing his own teammates into trouble.
Charlie - 6. Nought really wrong, only player to ever move for Bentley down right, moved to left and hasn't got a left boot so can't blame him for that.
BAE - 4. Utter dross.
Woodgate - 5. Shit by his standards made several mistakes in the first half.
King - 7. Top grade.
Zokora - 1. ****ing terrible, terrible player. Just terrible.
Huddlestone - 1. See above. I hate our midfield.

Would you agree that it's the luckiest Spurs win you've ever seen?
Absolutely. We definitely didn't deserve it. Straight away I text my 'Pool chums saying so, and if they carry on like that they have the title sewn up.
Kuyt had a blinder, Gerrard (I want one) was different class, but everything goes through Xabi, he was their best. Not one pass went wayward. And we have Zokora (:cursing:) instead of someone like him whose only completed pass was when someone whacked the ball against his stomach and it luckily trickled to one of our players.
I tell ya as well, that Zokora must love watching football because the amount of times he just stood there watching the opposition run past him was phenomenal.

Gomes- poor again but did make a top class save. 5
corluka- never panics hes like a james bonds character ozzes class. 7
King- Back to his best, lets hope he can make next league game. 8
esso- utter dross can't fault effort but just isn't good enough. 5
woody- was ok but you do expect better from him. 6
joh- is not a left winger and will not beat a man. nothing special as usual. 5
hudd- first half poor, but i felt second half he gained confidence and done ok. 6
Zokora- shite, i didn't realise he there in the second half, the only time i noticed him was 86 minute. 5
modric- didn't have the best game the midfield never supported him. than shipped out to the left. can't fault him though he never goes hiding. 6
bentley- not his best game but you can tell he is really benefiting from starting each week. Corners was better but free kicks still poor. 6
Bent- wonderful showed great hunger and fight, to me inspired our comeback and really got at carragher. Showed he can link up play with pav and set up the winning goal. Well done son. 8
Subs:
Hutton- Liverpool were rampant second half and it looks as if his confidence has taken a knock. He will get better. 6
Lennon- Back to his best made a real inpact on the game. 7
Pav- Showed good touches needs to drop deep and look for the ball if he wants to strike a partnership with bent. Great goal reminds me of teddy. 7
Harry great subs but road your luck but hey liverpool are top side and your gonna have to, to get a result.

I believe Hutton is playing a little shit at the moment due to the fact that he has struggled with fitness since his injury.
People say we were lucky. But dont forget, Pavlyuchenko missed an open goal, and Modric had a good shot on target.
We played extremely poor in the midfield again. Modric was the only one trying and he was very succesfull, I believe he will get so much better that we have a real quality player to look forward too. He is simply class, Modric played up against one of the most well constructed teams in the League that have hardly no weak areas in their team. Modric played similar to how he played at Wembley tonight, He stayed strong and just would not go down. Luka did not make 1 mistake tonight. Thats a sign of a class player ready to bloom very shortly. He has already gained confidence by taking shots whenever he feels like it, Not only are they on target but his passing ability with those clever threw balls are becoming dangerous to the opposition. Modric is adapting superbly, Soon we will start to see him becm=ome the heart of the team. Liverpool have Gerrard, Man Utd have Ronaldo, Chelsea have Lampard, We will have Modric.

we were crap, only one team looked like they could win it. Alonso totally bossed the midfield and we had hudd, and zok.
What the hell was JOH doing on the left wing:cursing: :scared: he definatly not a left winger!! just because he has a left foot doesnt mean he should play there.
Modric and bent were starved of any real service and I can rarelt remember our midfield giving luka the ball in a dangerous position (apart from one effort in the 40th min).
BUT after saying all that there is a real spirit amongst the players we have got 2 goals against the league leaders and that simply wouldnt have happened a week ago.
Lpool have been playing badly and winning (sunderland away, boro home, wigan home) so lawro can shut his mouth we won fair and square.

Honestly, I reckon a win is still a win. Spurs played with a lot of faith and steel tonight. Despite going 1-0 down so early on in the game, they rebounded and got the victory.
I was just expecting a draw. After Carragher got his head stuck in to give us the equalizer, I was just praying that pool don't score another one.
Pav's strike just added the icing on the cake. and it's one of those moments again. What a great week this has turned out for all of us Spurs fans..

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez says Harry Redknapp should be "embarrassed" over the way his Tottenham won Saturday's encounter.
“It’s really difficult to explain how we could concede two goals and lose this game,” the Liverpool manager said. “Perhaps Harry should be a little bit embarrassed."
What a dick.

Anyone else think that Bale being left out is a significant move by Sir Harry of Redknapp? There was a stat doing the rounds to say Bale had never won a Premier League match. Lo and behold, Bale out three points in.
Does our Welsh flyer leave the back door unlocked too much, and even if he does should BAE (worst half I've seen for ages) get in the team at all. Gunter looks far more solid.
On another note, Corluka, my gosh this guy is class. Some tit on 606 rang in to say he's a liability

there were times on Saturday that I thought he was goading Kuyt during the second half, "come on get it off me, there's only one of me......see ya".
To me he seems a better centrehalf than fullback, although I suppose when (not if, when) he does give the ball away it's less of a threat from fullback than centrehalf.
Has anyone mentioned that until Harry changed it at halftime (we'd all have gone 3-5-2, shows what we know) the reason we were losing was simple and glaring; Modric, Zokora and Fat Tom (he really is useless) against Gerrard, Mascherano and Alonso. It seems despite his much maligned status, Jenas really is a very important component of our team.

Interesting point. One that occurred to me during the match. I am very openly critical of him here, with my criticism gearing more to the frustration of him never seeming to achieve his potential and perform consistently.
Sitting there at the 60 minute mark I thought maybe Jenas is a bigger influence then I give him credit for (as pointed out on a number of occasions by pete, mjb and Turkish).
Saturday was difficult to say really. Hudd & Zokora up against Masch & Alonso was always going to be a losing battle.
Just some other points...
1) We were unbelievably lucky, but I do not care, 3 points is 3 points and I feel no guilt that it was Liverpool that suffered (who have had some great fortune this season).
2) I don't think anyone has mentioned this but Keane seemed visibly affected at some points by the booing, I could be over-dramatizing the situation.
3) Corluka is f**king great. The snap cross in the first half was unreal and then some great play in the 2nd.
4) Bent detractors surely now see he isn't half as bad as they think.

We always get this old chestnut when he's out and lose, or as in this case when we were shite. I didn't notice him being a very important component when Arsenal walked all over us in the 2nd half on Wednesday. Of course, he took full advantage of a Clichy slip to produce a piece of Gerrard-level magic. But had Clichy not slipped, I imagine we'd have been leveling the same old criticisms at Jenas.

Very interesting point. That actually occurred to me to. I dont want to open 'another' JJ debate and I have been one of his detractors lately but I did think the same. Still not convinced by JJ until some consistency becomes evident instead of flashes of good play and two good derby performances a season. I think Harry has a chance with JJ, in terms of consistency and getting more from him as he is integral given our woeful options in central midfield - it will be very interesting to see JJ's development - well if there is any. One thing is for sure I never like the Hudd and Zokora as a pairing in central midfield, that must be the worst pairing by a mile.

I partially agree. Even though we were dominated in both games against the scum we were still able to move the ball forward even though it wasn't that frequent. Against the Pool we had no options whatsoever, we couldn't even manage a few liitle give and goes - something that JJ is alright at! Being serious we at least got forward a bit more. Not saying that JJ would of made a big difference but it did get me thinking. I think with JJ missing it exacerbated our defiencies in central midfield depiste liverpool dropping off after going 1-0 up until half time.
Obviously us going 4-4-2 opened up things for them and they thumped us for 20-25 minutes but couldn't convert.

The best I can say is that JJ and Hudd is easily superior to Zok and Hudd.

Luka was marked out by one and both of Xabi and Masch, he didn't get any freedom whatsoever - that shot of his summed up how troubled he was. Great effort to get that shot off, but look who is trying to chin him!
Zokora is just the worst player I've seen play. He was wearing red most of the game. And Tom, well, slow, such a poor touch, but the only one in there trying anything productive really. His passing is an asset and it was the only assest in that midfield. Bentley looked well up for the game straight away and he linked very well with Charlie.

and that is why modric needs to play in central midfield. He cant be as bad as the current ones we have

He would get overun mate. Maybe he needs a year to settle in and than he can try cm. But he can't play cm with the dm we have it would be sucide. We would get overun with him in there and harry knows that. Also it restricts his game because you want him higher up the pitch to influence our attacking play.

Agree his best position is definitely a free role operating between midfield and attack.

But darren bent has said it seems harry wants to play 442, so where does this leave modric? He isn't a left winger and i don't believe we can afford to have him in cm as he is a luxury player.
You can see why wenger didn't buy him a couple of seasons ago now, where would he fit him in?

Yep that would be tricky...not sure how we are going to get the best out of him if we revert to 4-4-2. I think we will see different formations and systems depending on the oppossition, whether we are home or away and maybe switching from a 4-5-1 to a 4-4-2 depending on the circumstances of a particular game like we saw against the Pool. I know it will be better for Harry to be made up with a fist eleven but we have the players to adapt and we offer a certain degree of versatility as a team/squad with a number of options availabile.
But again it's a tricky one. Bent and Pav still havn't played enough to show real signs they could forge an effective partnership - so time will tell if they get a run and can do so - plenty for Harry to ponder and assess.

I dont want to open 'another' JJ debate .
The reason we dont "debate" about the ther CM's we have in the squad, is we all agree they are diabolically rubbish.
With JJ some are not so sure.
Im not debating he is our better/best CM, i think he is, i just think that he is rubbish, but better than what else is available, Hudd has proved to me he cant hack it there, and if we have any chance of sustaining any attack on the so called top 4, JJ cant be in the team.
Thats it from me about JJ.

We have debated about JJ here for years - and yes I pretty much agree with the jist of what your saying!:001_smile:

Actually you can't, because with Arsenal's monopoly of passing and attacking, how could he fail to flourish there? No other team in Europe is close to Arsenal in that respect. Modric has a lot in common with VP there, but markedly less aggressive.

At the end of a game when we've been totally appalling, Bent retrieves a ball from the dead ball line for Pav to flick in, and win the game. That's enough of a sign for me. It was never a case of Bent/Defoe or Bent/Owen, indicating some major flaw in the thinking of the management. What one expects from a Russian whose season started in March, continued in the summer via the Euros, and came to us 2 weeks into a season, God only knows(or Juande's Soldier  ). I've seen more than enough to know that Pav's mum may be very disappointed judging by what he's said to her.

I mean in the sense that you, or Harry should I say, has to weigh up Modric's inclusion at the expense of the aforementioned playing upfront together based on the premise that Modric wont be as effective in a 4-4-2. Personally I see Harry playing around with that a bit and he may end up varying different systems for different games and conditions - could be wrong though.
