His performances at the WC make me gutted we didn't sign him before....
England's man of the WC, no doubt. Never stops running and silenced the boo boys with tireless, selfless displays. Why did everyone hate him?

I had always wanted him instead of Salty.

owen hargreaves proved to me today that he deserves to wear the england shirt. his job is not to link up with strikers or to start attacking moves but to break up the opponents play and win us possession. he never stopped running, never looked tired and was the only one with the necessary bottle to score a penalty - putting to one side he is actually canadian - he and lennon were the only 2 players beyond the back 4 that did themselves proud. frank lampard stand up and bow your head in shame. you are the new matthew le tissier. week in week out you score countless free kicks, penalties, half chances and long range shots for chelski but you are ****ing dog pump for england.

He is also was probably the most attacking of the central midfielders at some points. I thought the Hargreaves was fantastic. I couldn't agree more about Lampard. He and Beckham were liabilities this tournemant.

yep will mclaren have the balls to wave goodbye to them tho. also Gerrard should be on a final warning, talks it up well but does **** all, so what if hes played for 12 months thats what hes ****ing paid for the scouse **** .
I think el tel being in there will inspire them more but sth africa in 4 yrs wont be our cup of tea so its Swiss/Austria in 2 yrs for the mickey mouse tourny
anyway sorry im hijackig the thread,
Hargreaves has one hell of an engine on him, he was stil going after Lamps And Gerrard had gone to bed (wish they ****ing had with them poofy pens)

Who's ****ing bright idea was it to have Lampard take the first one anyway? He misses like 20billion times and then he, mr 'cant hit a barn door from 5 yards' takes the first!!! I actually said 'oh shit, here we go....' and then he misses. FFS.
He has to be the biggest flop of the WC this year, followed closely by Ronaldinho, who has done sweet **** all. And now they are out too.
And I don't agree witht the comments about Gerrard. He's another player who works his bollocks off, I don't think he's whingeing bout having played 12 months straight, yes he's paid, as are others who's seasons haven't been going since last July....I think that's the point.
Oh, and while I remember, we can't blame Carragher, he slammed his first effort in with ease and then allowed himself to be psyched out by that ****ing midget in the Portugese goal.

Hargreaves was fantastic yesterday. The problem with Hargreaves is that he will play very well if you play him, but that isn't always enough as far as the football that gets played while he's playing. Generally he doesn't seem to contribute to going forward, yesterday though he was everywhere and i can't knock him for anything.

I actually said 'whats the point' when Lampard walked up. He shoots 140 times and not one has even troubled the keeper. Then Gerrard walks up. He does miss alot of penalties, so I said the same thing. But it's all alright by now. Because Carragher was walking up. He was a definate score. Good ol' Sven made sure we had at least one definate score.
Hargreaves did do well in this tournament. He did silence his boo-boys. But he shouldn't have been playing anyway. He is not what England needed. Especially when Lampard and Gerrard, to a certain extent, are mis-firing. He was there to break-up the play - which he did and did well - but after that we were screwed. No-one knew what to do. It was going for the same effect as when Carragher played there.
With Ledders it was different. Ledley has great passing abilities. We see that every week. With Ledders you get top-notch defending from a playing who can pass as well. With Carrick you get little less better defending but ****ing quality passing. With Carragher and Hargreaves all you got was 'Im gonna get my foot stuck in'. At this stage in the tournament, it was not what was needed.

Must admit before the world cup i slated him along with everyone else now i
think he'd be a great signing, be like signing 2 players'a decent RB and also
good cover for Zakora in CM.

Can't fault his work rate. I've not seen anything like it before, but i still think Carrick is better in the holding role than him.

You've got to admire the lad. If I had to listen to the abuse he's had, I'd of said who needs this shit - **** playing for England. He was a model professional, said little to the press and went about his business. Unlike some others on the team, he really did all his talking on the pitch. Carrick, classier and slicker on the ball no doubt, but this bloke can play and would die for the shirt. Can't put a value on that IMO.

yup , hands up man of the match for england if not for tournament , was not impressed with his selectipon in the 1st place , but to be fair , he hasnt impressed for england before this tournament ( i would put that down to sge mismanagement of him ), maybe its a one off but i think he has earned the right to have a decent run in his favoured position . i do agree with fluke i feel we need more of a playmaker than hargraves offers , i.e carrick in that position, but under mclaren as under sge you can see hargreaves getting the nod .

they've never played him in his club roll untill now. beckham wanted to be midfield general for a while. i guess he felt his hair looked shinier there.
anyway, i'm no bundeslege expert by a long shot. but bayern munich would not be champions every season (it seems) by having some cowboy playing holding midfield.

I'd be happy with that. Definately.
