I expect the same side as midweek, depending on King's fitness. Otherwise Charlie in the centre and Gunter at RB. Same tactics as well. Pompey will be determined to have stemmed their goal leakage, and they don't concede many at home in the league with a full team. This could easily be the nil/nil I predicted on Wednesday, Spurs particularly having an eye on the away leg against Krakow, Pompey concentrating on the clean sheet after recent deluges against them.

Sorry to break any optimism, but i think it'll be 2-1 Pompey. I'm probs wrong though, as every week, i'm always wrong when it comes to Spurs. I just think that with Pompey being at home, our recent record, and Defoe most likely going to be on form, we aren't destined to win this.:(

26th September 2008, 09:29 PM
There is no better time to play them (they will surely be saying the same about us). Their goal difference in the last 2 games is -10! They have lots of injuries although diarra is expected to be fit :( I predict a score draw for this one. Defoe will score for sure.... damn i miss him :(
I'd go with
Gomes
Gunter/Corluka
King/Corluka
Woodgate
Gilberto
Lennon
Modric
O'Hara
Bale*
Dos Santos
Pavy/Bent
subs: Cesar, Dawson, Jenas, Bentley, Huddlestone, Campbell, Pavy/Bent
*If bale is injured then start bentley on the right and lennon on the left.

I'll go for 1-1. Our matches @ Fratton Park don't usually result in many goals. I don't think we'll lose, but I don't see us taking the points either.

Who won't allow them? The Football God?

It's not really for me to tell you, otherwise you'll look like my puppet. A sound choice would be to find a footballing quote from a Spurs legend, or something historical or philosophical. Failing that, something witty, like a Chris Rock or Woody Allen line.

"Whomsoever..." Steve Gerber. You recognised that one, a 70s Marvel horror comic, a blatant copy of DC's Swamp Thing?
BTW, another English language interview with Ramos on SSN as I type, regarding the Pompey game. I can't see it adds anything to knowing about how he thinks to hear him speak in advance of a game in English, nor afterwards for that matter.

I did read about it after I had to Google the phrase!
Not sure re Juande, maybe our upturn in form is from him stealing Pavlyuchenko's phrasebook.
He don't shut up though does he? Maybe someone could have a word with him to tone the English interviews down.

Sounds very much like Ardiles, doesn't he, with the extended "errrrrr" phrasing between sentences. He still hasn't done a post-match one though, has he? I don't think it adds anything. I see the press are still lapping up Scolari like he's some kind of arena filling stand-up comedian.

That's a great point actually and one I forgot about. That defence is old and it has to go sometime. I'm not quite sure the system isn't failing them too though, they are not used to three at the back at all. They are going with it, I would say, not just because they lack wingers and have attacking full backs but also because Sol is getting on and needs cover.
And have you seen how badly James is playing? It may be premature but the guy looks finished. He has gone to pot altogether.
Can't wait to see him playing for England this year. It will be hilario. :p :D

Now I know why pav cant speak english. Its not cos hes russian its because he isnt banging the goals in.
Tottenham captain Jermaine Jenas suggesting that Roman Pavlyuchenko was unshackled by his first goal for the club in midweek. 'Five minutes after he scored, I saw a change in him,' said Jenas. 'His confidence has gone through the roof. All of a sudden he has started speaking English and I was shocked. I couldn't believe it. A goal lifts any player and I am sure there will be many more to come.'

Team: Gomes, Corluka, Assou-Ekotto, Dawson, Woodgate, Bentley, Jenas, O'Hara, Zokora, Gilberto, Pavlyuchenko.

Some unexpected changes there, Gilberto presumably in for an injured Bale. I wouldn't be expecting too much with this side. 1-1.

i thought so too. some ppl watch a game of football in a different way so see it differently. if someone aint spreading beautiful passes about and shooting from 25 yards then hes playing shite and clueless. diarra is a class act and has barely been in the game so far because of how o'hara has played.

My exact thoughts, and tends to get booked for un necessary fouls.

28th September 2008, 01:24 PM
JOH for me too. He's covered a lot of ground, passed the ball well and matched up well to Diarra. The major blot was not having a crack when he had that chance in the area. Once again Pav's left adrift up front. We shouldn't really be playing a 3 man midfield against Pompey. Their midfield isn't that strong, it's quite defensive and lacks a slick passing ability. On the left Gilberto's been completely anonymous and BAE has struggled quite a bit, in trying to play the ball to him and handling Little.

28th September 2008, 01:24 PM

When I saw that line up I was left feeling extremely perplexed. I just cant understand Ramos's logic here at all. Surely we had to play with pace for this one, surely. GDS,Lennon and Bent needed to play for me. Has Bale picked up an injury or something?

If Ramos is going to play 3 in the centre in midfield he needs to add the creativity of GDS and/or modric - dump Jenas and/or Zokora - leave JOH to play in front of the back four with short passes to the attacking midfielders.

Putting aside some of the usual inept performances and a particularly spazzy attempt at clearing the ball by JJ,the blame lies firmly at the feet of Ramos.Yes,we should have been given a penalty, but the ref should also have given Pompey a second penalty for shirt tugging by Dawson on Crouch. And we did not have a shot on target until the 88th minute.
Team selection and tactics were wrong as they have been all season.Hull city did us a favour yesterday by proving that you do not need time to 'gel'.Ramos clearly has no idea of his best starting 11 and even less idea about the best formation. In the pre-match predictions on here,we all agreed that utilising our pace would be the key. Then Ramos starts without Lennon and GDS.wtf?.
It would seem that given the vocal reaction by the Spurs fans at the game to the Pav/Bent substitution,it is now clear that some fans,at whatever percentage you perceive, have now moved into the discontented zone.If we go out of the UEFA cup and the league results do not improve, then those fans will be moving into the 'Ramos out' zone.
Even the greatest club managers in football history have one or two blots on their CV copybooks.I get the increasing impression that Tottenham will be one such blot for Ramos.

We were doing well until shithead decides to stick his arm out because he is too f*cking lazy to use his leg.
By the way anyone who is calling for Ramos's head, they are the people that will land the club back in the nineties and completely f*cked again. Ramos is a top manager, it took a long time to get the club to the point that we could attract someone like him and sacking him would be one of the worst decisions we could possibly make at this point.
As horrible as the situation is he is rebuilding from scratch and it is improving. We didn't get much luck today and when we were on top in the beginning then Jenas had one of his moments, then when we were on top second half and getting some momentum we are denied a clear pen. Then against the run of play they score a somewhat lucky goal on the break. Ball could have gone many places, but it fell straight to that lanky string of piss's head.
I can't say Ramos is helping himself with some of his selections, Ekotto has to be the worst left back in the prem. Can anyone name anyone worse? I can't think of any right now. He has no positional sense what so ever, he is lazy, he is lax with the ball, he can't tackle and on and on. He is decent on the ball sometimes, that is all I can say for him.
And Jenas is just a retard, he doesn't know what to do in midfield. And when it comes to the crunch you can bet on him f*cking up. He's a loser. He'll mess your team up. The best thing we can do is just get rid of him. At least O'Hara, even if he is having a stinker like today will try to control the game, put some tackles and simple link play together not run ahead of the ball and leave gaps behind if he doesn't get it back. I can't stand JJ, I really can't.
And Zokora, for all his lack of abililty is more likeable. At least he has a pair, but he's also just as bad in reality because he has no brain, no ability. No positional sense, no good decision making capacity, no technique. All he has is tenacity after he makes the right move (too rare) and running ability. But then he's not even the best tackler, he has no technique. As for his passing well it's barely non-league standard.
Corluka was our best player for 90 minutes today. Am I the only one that thinks he is wasted at right back? He clearly has so much ability to influence the game. We have to give him some games in central midfield. The few times he got some ball today he did very good things like he was having a cup of tea.
But all in all we just have to be patient. I am expecting this and more of it for a while. Just make sure the manager stays and then we will get out and move on an upward momentum. If we keep him we will have a bright future. If we don't we will probably turn into a shambles with no return and join Leeds, well, join the championship anyway.

I'm one of Dawson's biggest detractors but A. He played well today aside from a few compulsary unnecessary aimless Dawson hoofs B. King has played a good bit lately and C. Central midfield is our BIGGEST problem.
Dawson and everyone else would probably shore up a lot more if they had protection and players that can hold possession in front of them. Indeed look at the difference putting three in there and O'Hara (stays in position, tackles, passes it and doesn't run ahead of the ball) has made to the solidity.
I know we conceded two today (one a pen, thanks to dumbass) but we don't look nearly as likely to concede lately and over a season would concede half as much if we really sorted out central midfield. And we would also be far better at controlling the game, creating goals and putting games to bed.

To commit un necessary fouls and run around like a headless chicken, consistent yes, but lacks quality.
That's Zokora you are talking about there. O'Hara sends messages that we are not going to give up midfield, sits and tries to control and passes the ball well. He is just lacking in confidence like so many are, but he is still way better than Zokora and Jenas. They are completely headless and lacking in quality.
Jenas plays in midfield like as if he is in the final third all the time. He hasn't a clue. He doesn't realise he is supposed to stay behind the ball as a central midfielder and make late runs for crosses or surging runs with the ball when it opens up for him. He runs ahead of the ball all the time, it's a disaster.
And to be honest his passing is so average even if he did stay and try to link the play. He's just not good enough. He couldn't do Viera's job or Scholes or Fabregas even if he tried? But you'd think he would try to do it and do a pretty solid job and give us a platform at least. He just hides from the game, gets rid of it and runs forward and eventually gets a few goals so madnick can say he is great. :p
Jenas is a bad joke. And yes it is becoming personal now Peter. I do hate him. I'm thinking of taking out a hit. :D That's a JOKE, just in case it does happen, because it wouldn't surprise me. Lol.
You see, the only thing that is stopping me is that there are mad bastards out there that would probably give you 12 MILLION for him. :D We should give Harry a call say 'top top' a few times and get him ticing on his favourite phrase. 'Jenas, oh, wphu, he's a top player... top, top playr... engine is unbelievable, oh yea, top, top playr, wphu, deary me... he's a clauss act mate you know (twitch) top, top playr'.
I wonder what conversations are like between Harry and Jamie. I'd imagine you hear 'top, top' a lot. They probably just end up saying it at the same time over and over.

I'm not sure people say the same things when they watch players week in week out for 90 minutes and not just on Motd! Makes a huge difference.
Obviously they stated what they saw in today's game, I think that he did quite well compared to others who seemed not to care less.

Jamie is worth Jenas and Zok added together which unfortunately means he's not having the best of times himself either and has to regain his confidence. But he has to be starting with the present crew, defo.
He really isn't imo but thats opinions for you.

What does Micheal Jackson do in the bath?
He blows bubbles. LOL.
Yea, it's an oldie, everyone's heard it but it's still hilario. We need some laughs at the moment, God knows.
Cheers for buying the product I promote lads by the way, I've been overwhelmed by the response. :)

I watched the match today and if I don't see Jenas play another match in a Spurs shirt I will not shed a single tear. My patience has completely gone with him. Today's match sums him up. I turned around to mate and said 'Is Jenas the Invisible Man today, I haven't even seen him, let alone touch the ball'. 10 seconds later he gave away the penalty. Half way through the second half he then played a few delectable one-two's that 'make him such a great midfielder' (copyright Jenas Fan Club). As for the notion that he covers so much ground, has a great engine and work rate, I'll make this very simple for you all, it means nothing if there is no end result.
O'Hara spent the majority of the first half looking like the only player up for it and even he faded away by association. Same with Lennon, came on looked lively and then faded into obscurity.
Ramos needs to sort himself out. We played a team that has just conceeded 10 goals, we should have hit them with pace from the start, GDS & Lennon both starting. The whole set-up looks confusing. Admitedly for the first 20 minutes there was some good movement, then the whole team switched off.
Zokora has his moments but his mazey runs need to be part of his game, not just at random moments.
Oh, did I mention that Jenas can go do one? :)

anyway, on the plus side i think Dawson had a big improvement, i know thats not saying much but if all our players improved to that percentage then we'd be a lot better.

That sums up the season so far, Dawson was indeed a lot better after looking a complete shambles so far.

Take jenas out the side we would still lose.
Imo jenas is our best midfieder by a mile (if thats a good thing) and zok is a better player than jamie. Zok tried to get things going in midfield and was our best player and probly has been our best player this season. What did jamie do? Apart from give his all he just ran around like a headless chicken who didn't know what he was doing.
Jenas is our best midfielder, it might not be saying much but he is. I hope that Jenas does get dropped next week though, let everyone see how good we will be without him. I think alot of people will be in for a shock.
Simple fact is the likes of O'Hara are not good enough.

Yep we are awful it just seems odd that the blame always seems to come back to JJ somehow, maybe if he's dropped for a few games and we still keep losing fans may get off his back a bit.

Zokora was our best yesterday. That says alot.
And Jenas is not better than Modric, Gio, Bentley.

I've got a feeling an utterly pointless handball for a penalty has brought that focus back to JJ.

I remember last season had so many debates with people that we had liabilities in our team such as Jenas and Dawson!
Funny how it takes people on here so long to realise the downfalls these players have! I'm not saying that they are really bad players. The problem is for me is there not cut out for a club like ours who wants to compete with the top four!
They are mid table players that is it! Jenas I think may do better at another club but because of his lack of ability to take a game by the scruff of the neck and mark his authority on a game he will never be a high quality midfielder!
Dawson I always could tell he was a donkey in disguise! Zokora is like Jenas also cannot control a game! I never rated Carrik that highly, still dont think he is that good a player but he certaintly did the things that all our boys can't do which was take control of a game! Why we have missed him so much!
But glad to see some of you people are starting to wake up nowadays! We need a top class centre mid and if Ramos dont get one in Jan this could be one of the worse seasons I've ever personally seen as a Spurs fan.

Whats going on??!
Sunday was the first match I've had the chance to see this season, and dear god! What the hell happened to the glorious signings?!
Bentley, Modric, Dos Santos, Paluyzcenko, Gomes, Campbell... All good, all exciting. But what do I see? JJ with a captains armband STILL giving the ball away running all over with no real direction. Is Bentley on the left or the right? Why is Pal and Bent not a partnership? Where the **** IS Modric?!
It all looks like such a mess, no one really seems to know what they're supposed to be doing. And is Dawson the example of a reverse player? Started great, but gets worse each year?
I'm not sure what the problem is, but I think a back to basics approach has got be used here. Simple 4-4-2, ball on the deck, use the flanks, etc etc. Having Hutton, Bale and King fit has got to be a priority, as we really need that back four stable. Bentley and Dos Santos as wingers, Modric and Hudd in the middle. I know Hudd is slow but if he can just protect the back four it'll allow Modric to bomb on. Pal and Bent up front. There's no way they'll get goals unless the gel as a strike partnership soon, and they have to play together to do that!
Everyone's probably already said this, but the simple approach is the only thing I can say right now. They all seem so confused as to what system they're using!
Sort It!!!!!!!!!

If we never let the following anywhere the first team again we should be ok;
Dawson, BAE, Zokora, Jenas, Lennon, Dawson..........fill in any blanks as you go along boys.
I know Dawson is on "the list" twice, I just think he's that bad. Can we get Gardner back now please.

Is he f*ck mate and you know it, sober up! :p They're all as bad as each other the cms at the moment. But at least O'Hara is trying to do the right things and with a bit more experience and confidence might make a player. And Modric on the overall scheme of things is by far and away the best, but just hasn't gotten used to English football at all yet.

But he actually had a solid game the last day. If he plays like that I have little problems with him, well okay I'd still like to throttle him for pointless hoofing.
People suggesting Big Sam. :(
Can anyone recommend a good 'how to commit suicide' website?
And how can you stick the boot into Lennon like that? He is one of the few improving and he stretches the game and creates chances. Sure, his final product needs work but give him a chance he's young and is a match winner.
As for the rest I can't agree more. Ekotto is my latest target of hate. He is ****ing USELESS. He's a left back Jenas. That's exactly what he is. Has no idea how to play the position, he's brainless, he tackles like a girl, he gets bullied, he's often in the wrong position altogether, he ball watches, he's lax on the ball, often gives it away. Oh but he can run, does some lovely things at times and he's got POTENTIAL. Great.

It's such a simple formation when AH gets back:
Hutton---King/Corluka ----Woody----Bale
Bentley----Modric-----Corluka/Hudd/Jenas/Zok/NEW SIGNING---GDS
--------------Pav--------Bent-------
Typicaly subs should be Lennon and Campbell, save another if you have an injury.
It's such a SIMPLE formation. Our best 11 is the one that includes Corluka at DM and Ledley at CB. Yet I don't believe this lineup has started yet, we've done crap like Modric on the left, Bentley on the left, Bale on the left, BAE on the field, single striker. IT AIN'T WORKING. We had really better smash Hull and play positive football or I will be livid.
