Since the Tottenham 'revloution' began, who has been the best signing?

Feel free to voice your opinion if your best signing isn't listed.

I'd like to take shared credit for this new thread!!!!

Has to be Dawson, immense player. Started out brightly when not fully fit and thrust into a big match against Liverpool, the team he had been linked with for several years. Last season I couldn't see who was better or worse out of Ledders and Daws TBH. His passing is becoming very good, and his heading is second to none. He has had loads and loads of unlucky chances which he just couldn't get in, and whenever we let a goal in it is him who looks like he wants to die, he seems extremely determined. Not only that but whenever there's a picture on THFC site he's always smiling, so he must be a lively character.

Seems the England set-up are taking notice. Of course, if we had a decent manager i'm sure that he would be going to Germany instead of Campbell.

Gotta say Lennon.. That boy just makes me happy everytime he gets the ball. I always expect something to come from him when he gets the ball, because I know how much he can do.. He will be symbol of our next prime as a club... And we signed him for 1 mill. where players like Daws, Defoe and JJ costed 4, 6 or 8 mill.

i've gone for jenas. I think the guy has got something about him. It was an interesting signing for the club and he took some real stick off the fans for the first month. His being played out on the right didn't help him show off his talent.
For me his forte is his attitude. A lot of midfielders, especially english have not got the guts to stick their necks out. They get lambasted for leaving their sentry position for fear of the opposition and the fans wrath if it all goes wrong. But jenas isn't frightened and he's only 23, he does a good defensive job for the team, tackles well, runs well with the ball and more importantly, has the courage to get forward and get on the end of things. I think gerrard is the only other player like him, and even he needs a holding midfielder to do it for england. I think jenas will prove to be a much bigger prospect than lampard.

For the sheer impact he has had on the club it has to be Edgar. OK, he's not played that well, but his impact on the mentality of the team and club in general has been immeasurable. IMO in a few seasons time we will look back and say that Davids had the same impact that Cantona had on Man Utd (now i only he would play like Eric as well).

England's No.1

Hmmmm, that's a tough one, and the one I was gonna go for isn't even listed.

I would say Paul Robinson has been our best signing, he was sought after by a few clubs and it is so good to have him here and we only paid £1.5 mill for him, although to be fair it was only that low because of Leed's financial situation.. He may not have performed well for England so far this WC, but having him goal always reassures me that at least we're not gonna concede many.

Second would be Lennon and third would be Dawson. Shall I put my vote in for Lennon or just abstain?

Credit granted. :D

Opinion is split although Daws is ahead, more players have had votes than I thought! I have an inkling that Carrick is being ignored due to the current situation...otherwise I'm sure he'd have a vote or two!

I was going to include Robinson....but I didn't. I don't know why. I'm sorry. :(

It's Lennon. 1 million pounds outlay and we are fast creating a cult. His value must be upwards of 15 million now, and should he have a wonder match for England in the remaining matches of the WC, you'll find the giants like Real offering 20 million plus for him. But must resist the temptation if we're to create a new Dynasty and the greatest icon since Greavesie.

Difficult choice but for me it would have to be Robinson, all top teams have to have a great keeper and we have not had one since Clemance. If you look back to the winning teams over the last 10-20 years the common thread is that most if not all had a top class no one. He only cost 1.5 million and apart from the Chelsea keeper I would not swop him for any other prem keeper. From the list I would pick Davids he gave the players and fans a massive boost when we signed him.

can i choose that bloke who is the skills coach ??????
i think he will be proved the best signing as he affects /improves all the squad

My first choice is Daws just on the fact he has fitted in perfectly. With either Gardner, Davenport or King.... The basis of a good team is a solid defence.... King and Dawson are gonna be a great pairing for years to come...

Chinaman
27th June 2006, 04:27 PM
King came up through the ranks so I don't think he qualify as a signing.

marcusto
27th June 2006, 04:29 PM
Yeah I know King came up through the ranks... I was just highlighting how Daws has different CB partners.... King, Gardner, Davenport and done well with each one... except on a few occassions

sorry I was praising Daws

On that basis, Lennon is worth at least 30 million.

Agree Dawson is looking like a future captain to me, What a signing he has been. Has to be pick of the bunch, all played their part mind but for me Daws has stood out.

Got to go fof Lennon over Dawson. Nothing between them but lennon was only about a mil. Other than that i'd probably go for Daws on what he's achieved already.

Pick any one from 4 . robinson , dawson , carrick or lennon. Funny how that looks like a spine of a team. I have to go for lennon simply because he only cost 1million and is now worth more than any of the rest in the transfer market (except maybe carrick).

4 me i welcomed all these potentil and great signings and thout hee we go again except we got rid of alot of dead wood, robinson signaled a good step up a young hungry keepar who neva wanted to c div 1 again..carrick was nice as he was a passer, defoe was a goal scorer.. all hungry to play at top level with very little experience of winning anything between them... dawson again ambitious and dying 4 a chance to block that whole at the back... but when we anounced edgar davids.. no sorry EDGAR DAVIDS. has signed 4 tottenham hotspurs...need i say more...we were gona acheive somthing... we didnt know how much but we knew we were gona acheive somthing... you c dont matter what players u have on a field of play u goto have a LEADER some1 who does by example... they are called natural born winners.

I have to go for Dawson. He was phenomenal. He didn't need any time settling in, he was a rock all season. His partnership with Ledley is probably the best in the Premiership as far as their games complimenting each others.

all great signings , but i think so far it is carrick , he is rightly the heart of the team , setting the pace and providing the confidence from which so much else springs

I'm starting to think I should have included Robinson in the options instead of Defoe....

Spur
28th June 2006, 10:46 AM
Well Defoe was actually David Pleat's signing before the revolution began. IMO the revolution began when he left and was replaced by Arnesen Santini and Jol. In this case, Robinson was also a Pleat signing, although his first games were under the new regime. So it is debatable whether Robbo should be there, but Defoe I do not believe should.

Welsh Spur

When I was posting, I thought about this, and I reckon we've been improving since Defoe's arrival in January 2004...He made an immediate impact for us.

Spur
28th June 2006, 11:12 AM
This is of course true, but we still finished 14th that season. The revolution surely began when the club structure was revolutionised into it's current form...

and over last 10or so years we have had no true leader, and we cud c it on the field of play wat do we do now ... remember highbury that fight... we were all hopin davids wud play if he fit or not think in ur minds y we all so badly wanted him to play... that fight that spirit.. example courage to chalenge any1... true leadership... thats y we need to retain davids he inspires .. look at keane... realy took on the challenge.. and dawson and lennon ask them who started the winning mentality on the field...coys
