I would too, I'm actually hoping it goes to penalties though, I'm at work till 5.15 so it'll be nearing the end of normal time by the time i get home....and I want to see some dramatic stuff!

We hate them at cricket.

We hate them at Rugby.

We hate them at everything else.

But why do everyone love the Aussies when it comes to football?

I don't love them at anything. In fact I don't like both teams, so for all I care, they can go and kick everyone out of it.

C'mon Italy. The aussies dont need anything else to gloat about.

I don't love them at all, I just dislike Italy even more, and I think it's because everyone loves an underdog.

I have to agree.

Even if you others don't 'love' the aussies - you should all dislike them.

They are australian and are our arch-rivals at everything. Except building Empires.

Also just like to issue an apology to aussiespur. Nothing personal. :-)

It's not like they're gonna win the world cup is it? Hiddink may be GOOD but he isn't GOD, even he could only take Korea to the 2002 semis...If Australia do win there's no chance they'll beat Germany or Argentina. So I'm sure scalping one of Europe's big boys isn't too much to ask?

Still, Australian suffering at sport is pleasing on the eye.

i really like Australia and want them to do well, i dont hate them at rugby & cricket, i dont particularly care for those sports. we all like the underdogs and i like Hiddink. Also its good to see premiership players beating a squad entirely from Italy

I'm fully with Spur on this one, while I hope Italy lose, Australia have got to be one of the most annoying, cocky sporting nations ever. I'll go with a quarter final exit but that as generous as I'll get. :D

Every right-minded Englishman should dislike them for this all the reasons welshy spur said.

It's the general feeling in the world. Or at least England.

Of course we should. There is only one England. They can't emulate us because we were so strong and powerful. Sport is their revenge. The only thing they can beat us at. And they shouldn't be able too. So we should hate them for it.

I really didnt envisige such support for the aussies. Lucas Neill? Craig moore? Tim Cahill? Just a bunch of thugs. It would be very easy to pop a cheap joke in there, but i'll resist.

The Aussies are not arrogant. They're totally crude and without class. I think the former Malaysian Prime Minister also said something like this about them.

Anyone who lives or works in London must have a healthy hatred for our smug, patronisng and thoroughly ignorant Antipodean cousins. You can't get a pint in the west end (and increasingly Shoreditch) without having to deal with the bastards.

I'm making t-shirts that say Aussies Go Home - who wants?

Oh my God! Listen to you all. Pathetic! You sound like little children that want to take their ball home with them. What is all this hatred?
The Aussies live by friendly banter daily and they love their sport. In fact they are obsessed with their sport. They are no more arrogant then the English or Italians or anyone else, they are just consistently better and you don't like it. They are friendlier and mostly more hospitable than the English and they can enjoy their sport without trying to beat the shit out of their rival fans. They have done themselves proud in the WC as they do in all the sports they participate in.
You mostly just sound like a racist bunch of childish thugs and I find most of your comments quite disapointing. In fact Highlander is the onlyperson that sounds like he is older than 12!
Look at the facts and pull your head out of the sand! Austrlia have actually played better in their games than England! That's not right is it?

i love banter between countries and teams at sport , its part of the fun , the aussies give as good as they get so dont worry too much about them .i thought they were bit unlucky , didnt think it was a penalty though i thought the italian sending off was a bit harsh .
to be fair even with 11 against 10 the aussies didnt look like scoring but i wanted it to go to extra time , and then the extra man may well have told .
have to say the aussies have played better football than us so far , so we shouldnt get too cocky .

Actually mate, YOU look at the facts. England are in last 8. Australia are out. And, for the record, while you're banging on about facts, Australia, throughout this WC Campaign have only been leading their opposition for 5 minutes. 5 ****ing minutes. Against Japan. Case closed. Point made. Thank you.

I was pointing to the fact that Australia are generally very good at most sports and have been for many years. They even beat England quite convincingly last year at football, twice, well both teams that played half each. Yes, your correct, England are in the last 8. But Australia have played very well and have been praised over here. England have played below avergae and have been slated big time!

Quote from your thread Welsh Spur "It's so goddamn frustrating!!! England should be pissing all over everyone....at least the teams they so far played. ARRRGGGGHHHH!!!"
Who's the ****ing arrogant one?

Welsh Spur
27th June 2006, 01:01 PM
England have not played their best because every team they've faced so far has adapted the game plan of 'lets park a bus in front of goal and stop them scoring' thus stopping them from playing their natural game. You'll see a different England now they are playing decent opposition as the game will be more open. The reason Australia looked ok is because no team they've played was scared of them, coz let's face it, who would be? Were Italy going to play the game with 11 men behind the ball? Were they ****. Were Japan, Croatia or Brazil? Don't make me laugh. All's I've got to say is, they're where they belong, out of the world cup, and stick to tennis, rugby, cricket and soap operas for **** sake.

Chinaman

Throughout the years, with very few exceptions, British players do not possess the very delicate skills that is required in slow games when opponents don't rush in for the tackle. This is perhaps due to the culture of going in at speed and hard instilled into the youngsters in their early years; and real ball players like Bestie or Gazza were deemed to be arrogant and thus fair play for the hatchet men.

One can argue that the Latin Americans or Latin European are generally of smaller build and thus their shorter limbs make them more nimble.

However look at the Germans whose average size may be bigger than the British. While we may say the Bundesliga is of a lower standard than the EPL, its slower pace has led
to the development of players who can slow the play and see clearly all parts of the field for better options while the EPL and the British leagues keep on churning out players who are charging around like mad bulls with blurred vision of the field of play.

I spent a fair bit of my life in Hong Kong,a nd while the footie wasn't generally of a high standard, in pick-up games in parks, we generally have the better of the British soldier boys by not tackling them and simply jockeying them out of position by slowing the game down.

I think Spurs have done the right thing in employing that ball juggler to teach ball skills in the academy, and I'm hopeful that we can turn out a few real skillful players in future.
