I'd go with the 4-5-1

Robbo/Carra/Terry/Ferdinand/A Cole/Beckham/Gerrard/Carrick/Hargreaves/J Cole/Rooney

Hargreaves playing the holding role, Carrick linking up play, Gerrard providing Rooney support, Beckham withdrawn for Lennon around the hour, Lampard as a possible fresh-legged weapon (but not the way he's playing) for either Carrick or Hargreaves, Rooney hopefully bang up for revenge. I think they'll win and hopefully avoid a shoot-out, being as we're so shite at them.

No Deco or Costinha for them. Hopefully they'll take action against Figo for the headbutt and will Ronaldo be out injured?

If so, it's looking hopeful.

Figo is clear...FIFA have said they canot do anything more as the referee booked him at the time, despite van Bommel trying to ge him sent off...the players' conduct this tournament has been disgusting with regards to the gettin opposition booked/dismissed.

just play 4-4-2 with carrick in for lampard, the 4-4-2 worked perfectly well against portugal in the euro's we only lost cos the ref disallowed us a goal and we cant take pens. they play the same, we've got better whereas they've just got older

So who should be the second striker?

Also, just read on the BBC website that Scolari is trying to get Deco's red card overturned by appealing against the first yellow. This shows how important he is to them, and should they be successful this should be taken into consideration.

Deco shouldn't have been sent off TBH, of course its good for us though.

I'd rather see Beckham moved inside and Lennon play on the right rather than Carrick playing again. Obviously Carrick should play instead of Lamps because he is currently one of the worst players in Germany, but the day he gets dropped is the day Sven Shitty ****-face grows some testicles.

 that first yellow should have been a red anyway, it was an awful challenge!!!

If Deco's red card is rescinded and he does play, think we'll have to man mark him do a Nobby Stiles on him because he makes Portugal tick everything they do good goes thru him he's a constant threat. Hargreaves maybe the man to do such a job.

Yes. Definately. His performance against Sweden makes me sure he can do that perfectly, he looks so natural in the holding role.

Portugal flood midfield so we should keep the same system, I would rather see Lennon in instead of Beckham but that is not going to happen. They will miss Deco but have other m/f players who can come in and we have to win that battle. Rooney will play better as the lone striker now he getting fitter.

But alas we don't even have somebody whose only talent is to kick lumps out of opponents' legs a la Nobby Stiles

i think we used the holding role against ecuador to shield one of our strikers from injury and suspension. I think we'll revert to crouch and rooney against portugal, with lennon on for the second half atleast.

Lennon will rip Valente to shreds, anyone remember the Spurs/Everton game this season past? I think it was actually mentioned on ITV last night, let's hope Sven realises and gives Aaron a decent shout....

i fear he wont use lennon , argubly our most potent weopan since i think they will either kick or mark rooney out of the game , till its too late .

as an aside i am sure i have spelt weopan wrong , it just looks wrong , is it ? or is just me ?, and i am normally good at spelling (leaving myself wide open )
