Apparently the new England set up when SGE leaves will be;

Terry Venables in some sort of advisory role
Steve McClaren as head coach
Alan Shearer coach, possibly Macca's assistant

i like the idea of young ex-players being involved in coaching set ups. it just seems to work, look at Chris Coleman & Stuart Pearce at club level and Marco Van Basten & Jurgen Klinnsman at international level.

Macca is obviously the head coach and is a very talented coach but im glad El Tel will be around as he is an excellent manager and will support and guide McClaren.

you're thoughts please

Glad to see Venners back in the fold, McClaren will need someone like him i like the idea of Shearer getting involved as well. McClaren will need there help and Venners positive outlook, it must have been hard for McClaren to put up with SGE sometimes negative Italian tactics.

Not italian tacitcs just complete stupid tacitcs. good to see Venners back inthe fold, he should be manager instead TBH.

Why does the media have this perpetual love-in for Alan Shearer? I don't want to take anything away from his loyalty to Dilusioncastle United but at what point did his potential managerial skills become unquestionable? He's been 'The future manager of NUFC' since he signed for them and I can see no reason (other than blinkered Geordie sentimentalism) as to why. Maybe he will one day prove himself to be a manager of the same calibre he was a striker, but shouldn't we let him at least get a couple of UEFA coaching badges first?

Great players do not always great managers make....

Most of the time it is the second rate players who make the better managers, as without being blessed with sublime skills, they had to rely more on brains when they played.

Exactly. By a similar logic, I actually do think Shearer may one day make a decent manager of NUFC; his genuine dissapointment at missing out on any honours on Tyneside could urge him on to managerial sucess.

This said, there is no reason at all he should have any involvement with the England set-up beyond helping Peter Crouch discover where the net is. In that respect, let's get Big Al out of the xommentary box and on the training field ASAP!!!

Agree, also think Shearer could do a great job within the set-up.

Everyone's raving about Germany but everyone's forgetting they have not played a decent team yet either, I fully expect the Argies to have their measure.

but when klinsmann took charge they couldnt create or score. it was thew worst german squad for a long time and now their playing like a top team and scoring bagfulls

I think if Germany beat the Argies, the only team they'll fear is Brazil.

alan shearer great player that he was , never struck me as very imaginative ,adventurous or charasmatic , things that have been oh so lacking in the england set-up under SGE , so i am not especially taken with him being one of our coaches .
yes he may well instill a good work ethic , and dogged determination but really want a little more for our money .

Shearer has no coaching/managerial experience so I don't expect him to have a major role in the set-up, more of a background position.
