I'd say a win, but then that probably won't happen if we don't field a strong enough team, with decent tactics. I can't really say a defeat though, because there is no way we can lose at home to Sunderland, in front of a sell-out crowd, right?:o I have predicted a draw on the IKTS game, but i insured that, because this really is the game that has me stumped, although a draw could be most likely. I honestly can't say i 100% know for sure what the outcome will be, so until 30mins before the game kicks-off, and the teams are confirmed, then i can't vote

He's bred a lot of players with a lot of passion... we've kinda sold every one showing an ounce. Gonna be a tough one, hopefully talent will shine through.

As long as we wake up and realise the friendlies are over and that the pedestrian pace of pre-season games wont cut it. Start playing with a bit of pace and the passion the home crowd deserves, then I can see a good 3-0 no matter who starts (within reason).
Play like we did against M'brough and it will be another struggled out draw or even another snatch and grab by Sunderland...as is becoming far too common recently, the result will depend on which of our players got out of bed in the right frame of mind :o

I reckon a 3-1 win as well. Malbranque to score theirs of course.
I'd like to see
Gomes
Gunter King Woodgate Gilberto
Bentley Modric O'Hara Bale
Dos Santos
Bent
subs: cesar, dawson, zokora, huddlestone, jenas, lennon, pekhart
I think thats a pretty well balanced team. I'd rather have gunter playing at rb over zokora.
Dos santos to play in the hole behind bent. **** berbatov he shouldn't be in the squad - its time to get used to life without him.

My optimism is shot to shit after a defence of
Zokora Daws Woody Ekotto in the first game
Sunderland will be up for it and have fight I'm not confident
I'd like us to line up like this
---------Gomes
Gunter Hudd Woody Bale
---------O'Hara
------Jenas Modric
Bentley----------Giovani
--------Berbatov

gomes
gunter
woody
king(or hudd)
bale(or gilberto)
bentley
jj
modric
dos santos
bent
berba
I think we will sneak this one by a single goal:rolleyes:

Well I am going to assume three things that I really shouldn't in factoring my prediction, but I am going to do it in hope:
They are that one, Dawson, Zokora and Ekotto will not play in defence (King or Hudd and Gunter and Bale will play) and we will have some sort of new spine to our cm (O'Hara in some sort of way or anything that can work better), two, the guys will be ready for the pace of the prem this week and three that the coaching staff will have ripped into them for not having enough fight, work rate and purpose.
So assuming this happens I predict a win, 2-0. Otherwise, I will put my jumper in my mouth and hope for the best.

I'm hoping we pull this one off as we are at the lane.
But Tottenham the second (Sunderland) could pull this one off.
I'll go with 2-1 to Spurs.

Try playing players in their natural positions and try moving off the ball and passing it rather than hoofing it and we may have a chance

If King plays I am optimitic, of course I am. If he doesnt put the Hudd in along side woodgate. Gunter to start at RB, Gilberto at LB. Play Ohara in with Modric...and Bentley has to play on the right (this is crucial for me) and Bale on the left with GDS behind Bent.
JJ will start though in place of Ohara.
2-1 to Spurs. Bentley and Bent, Diouf for them.

Bale had a hell of a game for the U21 last night, now this either means
A) He'll make the difference on saturday
or B) he'll need more 'rest'. Hopefully the former.

I am pretty sure we will concede at least one....so we have to get a couple..
They will fancy their chances and Kean will have them fired up especially the old boys.
The opening tempo is crucial...we must come out firing and together up for a battle....hence the leadership issues,in games like this we need someone to inspire and motivate on the pitch.

Yeah i couldnt agree more Boca, if Sunderland get a foothold in the game they will be hard to break down, we need to get the ball down and control the game from the first whistle, JJ and Woody are going to be key on Saturday, both men need to stand up and be counted and use their experience.
Does anyone know if Ledders is fit to start?

if we lose this one, theres no Derby at home to help us out the quagmire this season, and we'll be bottom three by end of next weekend when the first proper table comes out and theyll be more changes in the offing.
Something smells rotten at WHL, has done for a while now ...................... the board dont want long term growth, just a profit to be made when selling.

Agreed it's starting to look that way especially when you look at the whole Keano and Arshavin sagas. Most of the fans would've took Arshavin over Keano anyday of the week me included most likely Juande too. All we had to do was give them the Keano money and bang we've got ourselves a world class footballing magician capable of ripping defences wide open but no the big brass are some penny pinching ****ers. It's looking increasingly like they're angling to sell and are trying to maxumis(spl:o ) their profits. We've spent jack shit this window when you look at the net comings and goings and our squad is starting to look very thin especially when you take into account players Juande has frozen out because they're just not good enough.

It will be a hard game to win. I watched last week Sunderland v Liverpool and Roy Keane has done an amazing job with them. If it weren't for Torres, it was a sure draw. Sunderland outplayed Liverpool for most parts of the game, and Murphy had a great chance when he was cleared in the box with a good cross to head only to head it weak.
I say 1-1, Dawson costing us some points and Bentley scoring.

He certainly knows what he's doing I can't see them in the relegation battle this season I'd say they'll finish comfortably in the midtable somewhere between 8th-12th. Adding Cisse and Healy up front along with Diouf will give them some dangerous options up front.

As it has been said already,Sunderland are not going to be relegation fodder this year. They look like a side who,if they can't outplay you to win, then they will outfight you to win,and that could prove to be the difference on saturday. But,I will still predict a 1-1 draw.

Completly agree with that. Levy is costing the club and taking the piss to be honest. Levy doesnt seem to want to pay£19.7m. A joke.
We have spent £5m this window
If this deal doesn''t go through it will show clearly levy wont spend so much most probably because he is 27 and wont be worth £10 when his contract is expiring.

Yes, I'm shitting myself. Healy, with his devastating record of 0.26 goals per game in the top 2 divisions, allied to Cisse, the French forward who's modeled some of the most devastating haircuts in Premiership history. You've got to hand it to Keano, ex-Spurs players aside, he really does specialise in mediocre signings.

The oracle has spoken. Are you Lawro in disguise? Oh no, you can't be as he's predicted a 2-1 win.
Frankly, I'll be surprised if Spurs actually turn up. Their knees will be all trembly and not because they're going to Wembley. Sunderland also boast the legendary talents of Andy Reid, the Irish Brazilian(he's into waxing), Craig 'Flash' Gordon, Diouf the Spitting Cobra, and that bloke wot used to play occasionally for United and whose cousin was on last year's Big Brother. I don't think Ramos knows what he's in for.

Cisse is a decent signing for a club like Sunderland, Healy may have a pretty woeful record in the league but his international record (at the highest level) speaks for itself. Finding the right club and a manager who could bring out his international form and you could see a transformed player.
Keane's signings have been sound not mediocre. Its all relative, and for a club who have just came up again it represents good business in the main.

But Healy hasn't got a good record in scoring in the Championship or the Prem. They've increased their chances of scoring, but against Liverpool that was as near zero as it gets. Diouf would be a much bigger danger and Mal can't be discounted.
@olly27
Last season's certainly weren't sound. He signed Chopra for 5m and has since signed another 3 strikers. Halford(2.5m) came and is now on his second loan, soon to be followed out by Etuhu(1.5m), whilst Stokes(2m) and McShane(2.5m) don't look likely to be around too much longer.

Last season they were newly promoted and part of the relegation battle so he signed players that would help them survive in the prem.
This season they're building and looking to ensure a mid-table finish. He's slowly raising the profile of the club. You can't deny Keane has done a great job thus far and Cisse might of had a bad time at pool breaking his leg and what not but you can't turn a blind eye to him because he's got the pace power and skill to burn you if not shown respect. Healy is like an upgrade on Chopra he might not have a great domestic record but his international record shows he has a good nose for goal and could come on and nick you a late winner from time to time.

I was simply stating that his moves this summer seem to be good ones, of course that can only be judged come the end of the season, so we will see. I agree about last season however. A team up for a second season will be able to attract certain players who may not have came in a first season.

Well you don't understand the market, you almost always say the same thing about most signings and your predictions are almost always too low. Think about it, get with the times.
Secondly, you are critical of spurs and sunderland in how they sign players, two of the most progressive teams in the league, simply because you don't get what they are trying to do, and have achieved a lot in doing so by the way.

He did have some questionable transfers last season but he had so much trouble getting players to the club at the time (sunderland rep from last prem etc.), as you say it's all relative. End of the day his transfers in January are what saved the club. He brought in some better defenders and Andy Reid and it was crucial for them. They stopped leaking goals and they started to hold onto the ball and create far more chances. Keane did a remarkable job really to get them that high up.

Whatever are you on about? If you're referring to Keano(and when aren't you), Liverpool paid well over the going rate. Even fans who didn't want him to go thought it too high a price to reject.
Secondly, you're thinking of someone else as I've never been critical of either Spurs or Sunderland in how they sign players. Keane at Sunderland has simply bought too many Championship level players and paid far too highly for them. The fact he had to buy so extensively in January shows how weak his summer purchases were. Pretty rich stuff from the guy who told us, despite being warned to the contrary, that Boateng was the commanding CM that would transform the midfield.

We weren't discussing how he did since he took over, we were discussing how he did with the funds he had last season after promotion. If you had 2 brain cells to rub together instead of 2 hairy bag bollocks in your lame brain skull, you might have been able to attempt a semi-intelligible response. If you had 2 brain cells to rub together instead of 2 hairy bag bollocks in your lame brain skull, you might have been able to attempt a semi-intelligible response. As it is, we can expect nothing more than your usual juvenile abuse making my point better than I could do myself. You're such a half-wit you can only harbour ambitions to be a complete dimwit.
No we were discussing how well Keano has done at Sunderland and he's done a great job there. Won promotion with style, survived the relegation battle and looks to be building a mid-table team. So far he's done a great job what the future holds for him we'll just have to wait and see.
You say he's paid over the odds for alot of players but he's accomplishing his goals with all these players playing a part some bigger than others. That being said I'm sure he'd disagree with your dimwitted observations.

Getting promotion hasn't normally been a problem for them. McCarthy did it with a record points total, and then they got a record low points total when relegated the following season. The test for Keane was always going to be how he did in competing in the PL. He's paid inflated fees for too many players not able to compete at this level. This is the team that got hammered 7-1 by those notorious 1 nil merchants Everton. He's spent a vast amount of money for a below average return. He accomplished his goal, he just didn't do it very efficiently.

I agree with what you have said there. Keane has achieved what he has set out to do. However keane has admitted himself he has made mistakes in the transfer window (the point jrio was making). I think he paid over the odds for a lot of players. That doesn't mean he hasn't done a good job overall.
Sunderland manager Roy Keane has vowed not to repeat last summer's mistakes in the transfer market.
Following promotion to the Premier League, Keane spent heavily in an attempt to assemble a squad capable of avoiding relegation.
Though the Black Cats are on course for survival, several of the Irishman's signings, such as Greg Halford and Russell Anderson, have had no impact at the Stadium of Light.
Keane has acknowledged the errors he made 12 months ago, but is confident he is now in a better position when he looks for new signings at the end of the season.
"I made mistakes last summer," said Keane. "We did a lot of deals before getting back to pre-season [training].
"I won't be making that mistake again. I won't be making 30 or 40 phone calls every day like I did last summer.

Right taking everything into account, i've finally made a prediction to tomorrow's game. I know it'll be a stern test, but at the end of the day, our lads have got a point to prove on the first home match of the season, and for that, i see us triumphing 2-1 winners against the mackems.

Yeah but he didn't take over with them bottom of the league playing like pish and not being able to buy a win. Keane has made mistakes yeah all managers do but that's expected because he's a young manager and his options last season were slim in the transfer market. From were he started to were he's at right now I feel he's done a great job especially if he achieves a comfortable mid-table finish this season. His next challenge will be challenging for Europe and that will be a big step for him to make and it'll go along way in telling if he can cut it at the top of his management profession.

Excellent post, very correct and fair, and I'm betting he is going to keep improving them based on what he has done so far and the type of person he is. I mean who else that achieved as much as he did as a player would make 40 calls a day as a manager for players? His determination and desire to succeed were incredible as a player and are the same as a manager. And he's a very intelligent person, add that with his experience and his determination and you have a bit of a force of nature to be honest.
Quinny says it has to be seen to be believed what kind of operator he is; the utterly perfect planning that includes every last thing that can make that tiny difference, knowledge of all aspects of the game, the appetite for the job, his work ethic, the way he can tell players something in one sentence that takes most coaches 20 minutes and so on.
He's always been one of my biggest heros. To say he is 'a man who gets things done' is a bit of an understatement. I always thought he'd be a phenomonal manager and I haven't seen much to disuade me from that view so far.
I just hope we can beat them tomorrow because we really 'should' at this point in time and we really need to get a win under our belts early and get this season underway.

The thing with the Keanos of this world and even the like of old 'arry' redknapp is that they take the cast offs from other clubs..the oldies and the not quite good enoughs and make them believe they are the most important players in the world...that they are not just bit players or that they are only there till something better comes along....in return more often than not those players will walk through walls for em....
no egos to massage and real team ethic...hungry players with a point to prove ...keano was a leader and he inspires....

Well Ledley and Woody is an infinitely stronger centre back. However, the full backs are a big worry, as is central midfield where we may get our arses handed to us again. You can bet Sunderland will work their socks off, are we going to match them for work rate and aggression and let our extra quality show? That is the big question and applies especially to the middle of the park.

Yep, spend 15m on a player and play him out of position so we can play Lennon, typical tottenham:(
If we lose today I'm sorry but I will start to question what the **** is Ramos doing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BAE is not prem class, zoroka is not a RB and we have gunter who looked good in pre-season. Bentley is a RM period, lennon is no more than an impact player and shouldnt start.
I look at todays team and theres no muscle / strength in the midfield, we a have a small team and two god awful full backs playing. Why doesnt he play huddlestone, o'hara or even zoroka in midfield?????????

Juande i'll fly away........ good **** off then
your dumb ****er decision last week to have Berbs on the bench was stupid, to then repeat that error and not even have our best player on the bench is complete ****ing bollox you ****, i dont care if hes leaving, hes still by a country mile our best player and as we're paying his wages we may as well ****ing use him.
The starting 11 last week was bollox as was the set up ,this week wasnt any better and GDS is wasted on the right when he does come on, he HAS to play in the hole with a free rien.
Its so ****ing obvious, the end of last season wasnt you getting ready for this, that was ALL you could manage, luckily for you Chelsea ****ed up in the CC final with their equally pathetic line up.
WHen you got to this club you done some weird tactics and subs and they worked, now you just do dumb boring basic shit , if thats all youre gonna do, **** off now.

Darren Bent did nothing. Nadda. Zip. Zilch. Absolutely non-existent. Might as well have been sitting here with me drinking cups of tea. I know you are all going to say that the midfield werent supplying him with any decent balls, but he was just giving them nothing to pass to. Couldnt win a header. Sleeping everytime a corner came in. We're suppose to rely on this guy getting us goals ON HIS OWN?! ****ing completely useless.
