View Full Version : WHY bring Wallcott!?
Houdini logic

Sooo stupid, yeah lets bring him along to the world cup instead of someone who deserves it such as Bent or Defoe. Then it's shite, we've got no strikers and Walcott isn't ready.
Maybe Sven's holding him back for when we're really in trouble, then he'll unleash him, hmmm?
****ing joke.
We got the flippin' BFG as our only fit, slightly experienced striker!

Agree entirely. If he didnt use him yesterday as a direct replacement for Owen , when will the time be right?
If Peter Crouch was a record he'd be Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep, OK at the time but a one hit wonder. His time has come and gone , there is no element of surprise for world class defenders, he looks like the gangly kid he was at the Lane.

he musnt be that good. lets face it, he hasnt exactly made many headlines back in the leagues like rooney and owen before him. they became big names in the premiership at 16/17 and even our own lennon made his prem debut at 16.
im starting to think its another waste of english talent at the goons!

I feel sorry for the lad cos he obviously has been built up and now looks like sven has realised through training that he aint good enough....a lot of yougsters break through at a world cup but they have all played some part in domestic top divisions...
I feel its purely to do with his value for arsenal..maybe a gimmick to focus us all on him rather than svens lack of ability..but we all know svens shit at tournaments..hes a kipper ..two faced and spineless....defoe and bent must be screwin man.....in fact the FA must surely face some tough questions about it if we don't go on and do well....
plus for ****s sake drop beckham...yes he crosses a good ball..and freekicks..but if you were picking top team in world today..he wouldnt be in it..he beat greece and argentina..but that was then...we don't look as good when lennon aint on....lamps hasn't played well...and to be honest the players dont look happy....i believe they know they have the potential to win it this time but that sven and mclaren haven't the balls to win it....

Sven is mentally challenged.

England are becoming all to predictable, Leo Beenhaker hit the nail on the head last week if we are going to stand any chance of winning this tornament things have got to be shaken up and bold selections have to be made i would go this route.
1. Robinson
2. Nev (if fit)
3. Cole
4. Carrick / Carragher
5. Terry
6. Rio
7. Lennon
8. Gerrard
9. Rooney
10. Walcott (i would play the kid)
11. J.Cole
there's pace on the right flank and thru the middle with Walcott and a holding role for Carrick / Carragher allowing Gerrard to bomb forward. I think we could get @ any side once this team clicked.

i wonder if there were any large bets on walcott being in the squad. If so maybe sven has cemented his player budget for his new club.

Maybe Sven foresaw the problem with the schoolkid's tickets and wanted to avoid Theo a similar problem.

we all know that walcott shouldnt have gone, but if sge has the balls to pick him he should have the balls to play him, simple as. its true, we are a very predictable side and things need to change. the 3-5-2 is a great option as we saw against T&T although ive never been a huge fan of that system, im more of a 3-4-3 person, a 3-4-3 would be difficult with the squad sven has picked but i'd go with;
-------------------Robbo-----------------
--Carragher--------Terry-------Ferdinand--
Beckham--Owen H/Carrick--Gerrard---A.Cole
-------Lennon---Rooney----J.Cole---------
not that it even has the slenderest of chances but if this system were to be employed thecentral midfielder, either Carrick of Hargreaves would be the holding player. if it were Hargreaves, he would be mainly there to win balls, if Carrick he would dictate the play more.
if we were under the kosh a bit the ashley cole would revert to a more full-back role than left midfielder come wing back, definately not a winger.
could qwork, you never know

We never changed to a 3-5-2 against T&T.

That might work. like the idea of pushing J.cole wide left and Aaron wide right very much like the Dutch play and they still created a couple of half chances against Argentina with a fully fit Rooney im sure he'd put one away and still gives Gerrard chances to bomb forward and Beckham to make diagnol runs from right to centre or inside right channel simular to Ljungberg

I personally would go down the 4-5-1 route...(4-1-3-1-1)
-------- --------Robbo-----------------
Neville-------terry-------Ferdinand-------Cole
-----------------Carrick-------------------
Lennon-----------Beckham---------J cole
------------Gerrard
-------------------Rooney
Wouldnt even bother with Walcott to be honest, I would prefer Lennon up front in the supporting role if that were to be the case.
Oh and drop Lampard too, only good thing about him is his shot which has been way off the mark in the 3 games already

If theres one thing guarenteed about good ol' Sven Goran, its that the best players will play.
Only then will he make completely worthless subs and stick one in who shouldn't be there whilst over looking several other players that the system is suited to.

only one dead cert about this worldcup, the sooner that retard sven goes the better, all he seems to do is keep the so called big names happy no one else will stand a chance unless theres more injuries.

yeah we did, lennon came on for carragher and played right wing and beckham tucked into the middle

Beckham officially went to right back.

Beckham tucked into right back.
Why else would there be criticism of Sven for putting him at right back? Why else would he say that he is after Gary Neville's position?
Are you also actually saying that we played both Ashley Cole and Stewart Downing as left wingers...?

Ashely Cole was shown to be the bollocks player he is against Sweden. Bridge is far better.

22nd June 2006, 11:24 AM
I take it you mean by his inability to stop a ball going over his head?
Welsh Spur
22nd June 2006, 12:30 PM
No, by his inability to cross in a decent ball, link up with the left winger, and just general lack of international quality. No qualms about his attempt to clear the first, but the second.....christ almighty, it's an International tournament, I'd have ****in thrown myself at the ball to keep it out, not just watched it bounce about 3 times on the way in.

As much as I hate to say it, Cole is a better player than Bridge, BUT out of form, so Bridgey should get the nod.
