He didn't play tonight, but he still waved at virtually every Tottenham fan tonight, including me, he also signed EVERY autograph that was asked of him, and I just think little things like that maketh the man.
He will be GREAT for us, trust me.

He does come across really, really well.
But he can't claim a cross with the same positive result.

Aside from the flapping and chesting down of the ball and generally being somewhat quite erratic, then yes, I agree.

I have in my hand a copy of the London Paper from 3 years in the future. Please do not ask how it came to be in my possession, but be assured that it has. There is a quote that stands out from it:
"Gomes has really betrayed the fans. For all his promises, his big talk about Spurs being the only club for him, it all meant nothing. That FA Cup win, stuffing the Gooners, when he jumped in the crowd and said he'd end his career at Spurs, like a fool I swallowed it. Now he's off to United and I hope he's their new Taibi."
Guy sounds familiar but I just can't place it.

Of course I admire that. Just "don't place your life in the hand of a rock 'n' roll band, they'll only throw it all away", and that's more true for a football club.

What I like about Gomes is he is prepared to come for crosses and is not scared of making a mistake unlike a certain recent departed goalkeeper. I think he will make a few mistakes this season but I'm sure the amount of points saved will outweigh his mistakes.
O yeah I'm please I wont be seeing Robbo lump the ball up to Berba this season, how many times did we give possession like that last season?
Also would someone tell Dawson to stop trying to hit diagonal hollywood balls to the wingers, he a ****ing centre back let the Hudd do it FFS.

Robbo was well bitter in the paper
'Im so glad to be out of there'
He then bemoans being dropped for the CC semi...you were dropped because you couldnt ****ing catch a feather. You're performance in the 4-4 villa match should have seen you hung!
And he forgets to add that he actually played in the final even though Cerny deserved to.
What is it with all these needless bitter rants. Robbo done his dash with Spurs when he brought his England form into our matches, he was a MAJOR liability!

Well he was but at the same time he was respectful, he said us spurs fans were amazing and that he has never played in front of fans like us. I think he was disapointed in the fact that he had to leave spurs because he loved us as a club. He blamed himself infact saying he got to comfortable which i said months ago so i hope he does well and i hope no matter what his form is we sing englands number one to him and thank him for his commitment to our club.

I think the club are slightly to blame for this after they gave him a 7 year contract.

Well he got to civilised he was ment to be englands number one for years to come, 7 year deal, fans plauding him and playing well. Than when the tides turned on him he lost that hunger he once had when he had something to prove. He basically achieved everything but as they say its harder to stay on the mountain to climb it.
Shame ive allways liked him and rated him.

I'd place the blame at Robinson's feet for being unable to recognise his deficiencies and need to work at them, and then Jol for indulging him to the extent that he knew he'd never be dropped no matter how poor he was. Contracts mean little with regard to performances. With a change of manager who doesn't rate you, you can be out of the door instantly. Robbo had got to the stage where he was a national joke, so Ramos would have to perform hand stands to justify retaining him.

It is actually harder to climb the mountain than to stay on it. It's harder to motivate yourself to stay on the mountain once you've climbed it.
A massive failing from Jol in completely disregarding Robbo's fallibilities. I don't accept that the loss of Carrick and King left him more exposed as an explanation. Free-kicks are where he has complete autonomy and they were sailing past him like free love at the world's biggest swinger's convention.

Have to agree there Jrio.
He does have a hard time understanding that he was playing like a sunday league keeper in the premier league. Ramos was extremely generous to risk him for the final. He owes him a debt of thanks.

QUOTE
I'll be an idol at the Lane,' says Spurs keeper Heurelho Gomes
By Martin Lipton Chief Football Writer 31/07/2008
Heurelho Gomes
Heurelho Gomes teaser
Heurelho Gomes wants to become an idol for fans at White Hart Lane - and live up to his Octopus nickname as well.
The Brazilian became a hero in his four years at PSV before his £7.8million switch to Spurs after keeping a clean sheet in more than 60 per cent of his side's games.
His amazing saves saw the 27-year-old dubbed 'the Octopus', while his pre-match ritual of pumping himself up and down on the crossbar became a call to arms for both supporters and team-mates.
After replacing ex-England keeper Paul Robinson at the Lane, Gomes said: "Popularity isn't the big thing, it's the work that you do that counts.
"But I have always worked very hard and played very hard, and that is what I intend to do. I'm not worried that I am taking over from Paul Robinson here at Spurs.
"When I played at Cruzeiro I replaced Dida and was happy to do it. Then I did it in Holland when I replaced Ronald Waterreus, who had been at PSV for 10 years and was also very popular.
"But I went there and became an idol. That was because of the hard work I put into it.
"My relationship with the public was very good. They called me the Octopus. My aim at Spurs is to do the same and play well. The thing I do with the crossbar is not about stirring up the crowd or whipping up fervour.
"It just gets me going. But I know fans enjoyed it and got excited by the way I did it."
Another reason for Gomes' popularity at PSV was his decision to live in the heart of Eindhoven.
Fans would knock on his front door - except when he hung out a sign saying 'the Gomes family is now resting'.
There will be little rest for Gomes this season if Spurs are as generous as they were last term, conceding nearly 30 goals from set-pieces.
But a backline of Alan Hutton, Jonathan Woodgate, Ledley King and either Gareth Bale or Gomes' fellow Brazilian Gilberto should change that this season.
Gomes, 6ft 4in, declared: "We're going to work together and we're going to work hard as a team. I'll be there in goal trying to stop the ball going in. That's it.
"I just like to be quick, both for the high ball and on the ground. I like to cut out crosses and physically I'm prepared for that.
"Then when things happen, you have to say what is necessary on the field. I like to give reassurance to the defence and let them know they have someone good behind them. That's what I do."
Gomes' self-confidence seems contagious, even if his new club has never finished above fifth since the formation of the Premier League.
But he added: "I've come with the thinking of winning, that's what I'm here to do. In the past I have won at least one championship or cup per season and I intend to win."
