Bye Robbie... thanks for everything. I wanna say good luck, but I can't.
You think we're victims of our own success here? If he hadn't have lifted a cup at Wembley and done his victory jig, do you think he's still be moving? Did he fulfill his ambitions with Spurs, and is now moving on to the next step of his career?

Same here I know hes been at the club for like 5-6 years and given his all for the club, but I'm finding it hard to wish him luck. Its probably coz he came out and said shit like he loves the club and would like to finish his playing days at spurs.
I know one thing Mr Levy now needs to get his finger out of his arse and replace him with a top class player, not milito or any other average player.

It was inevitable. Good luck Keane and I do mean that. As hard as it is for me to say it, your going on to fulfil your dreams and I will always respect that. Its a shame you couldnt of waited just one more season at Spurs to see the Ramos Revolution in full swing. Lets just hope you dont spend your days on the bench.
He will always be a legend to me; no matter what club he plays for. The way this was handled wasnt right, ill be the first to admit that; but you cant pin ALL the blame on Keano. When the scousers pull into the lane, I will be one of the few singing 'Keano, theres only one Keano'. And you know what? I dont care if you dont agree with me on it. He is a legend and always will be.
Why do I now have the feeling that Berbatov wont be leaving.... I dont know why; its a gut feeling. I dont really want to talk about replacements; noone can replace him.

Same here pal i just have this feeling he could well stay.
Sorry i can't say all the best to him because i don't want him to do well personally, yes sour grapes but its just the way i feel. There was ways in going and he could of handled the situation alot better imo.
Apparently we could well be bringing in top names to replace keano. 20million isn't a bad fee at the end of the day so lets just hope we can keep more clean sheets next year so we don't have to score plus two goals every game.

If Berba does go then you have to question Mr Levy motives and why Ramos would let both of our first choice strikers go without a fight.

I can only say good luck to Keano and then remind Mr. Commolli, Mr. Levy, Mr. Ramos that we have to sign at least one striker, and David Villa is available for 25 million.
He wants to come and his wages are not in the PL level (he earns €3M/year, which is less than 2million per year). Should we do this quick and unnoticed, this could be the deal of the summer.
P.S.: If we throw David Silva to the equation, I'd put us on the contender for the title level.

Can't really see that happening, don't think that we will be able to get Silva too, we really need a top quality striker to replace Keane, the sooner the better.

I was thinking exactly the same thing. I would think we will announce a new striker very shortly after keane is officially announced as a liverpool player. Ramos and Co have known this is coming and i'd be stunned if they werent prepared with a quality replacement.

It wouldnt surprise if spurs have no one lined up, i'm having serious doubts about how the club is run, I hope I can eat my words.
I think if we do have a replacement, it will probably be a "young" player again, buy him on the cheap and if hes any good sell him on a so called top team for a massive profit:mad:

Is there any chance of Villa choosing Spurs over Los Merengues? Somehow I doubt it, that is of course if Madrid are indeed interested in Villa at all.... Can Villa play on his own up front? From the games I've seen him play in (quite a few over the past three seasons) he strikes me as a player who needs a partner to play off.
It's a real shame to see Robbie leave and I, like many others, have a sour taste in my mouth. Had Keane kept his mouth shut at the end of the season then I don't think any of us wouold have begrudged him a move to his "boyhood team". But for Robbie to announce that he wanted to stay at the Lane for the foreseeable shows that he is just another footballer lacking in loyalty and honour.
When you consider the facts, we should have realised that one of the "big four" would come sniffing around Robbie sooner or later. He's finished in the top ten goalscorers charts for the past three years and his scoring rate has increased every season. Added to this is the fact that he creates at least as many goals as he scores and provides real inspiration to any side he plays for. As a club who have never qualified for the Champions League we are unable to offer players competition at the highest level and as a direct result we are also unable to compete with the higher wages on offer at Champions League clubs. Until we qualify for the CL we will never be able to hold onto top players for any more than two seasons at a time.
The signing of someone like Villa would be a great coup for the club and I would jump at the chance of seeing him down the Lane in lilywhite; we just have to be a bit more realistic and realise that, unless we can finish in the top four year in and year out, players such as Villa, Berbatov and (to a certain extent) Keane will only ever be passing through on their way to the top. That is the reality of our situation, it's frustrating and saddening that players like Keane would prefer to go for the quick fix of a transfer to a more successful club than finsihing the project they started but then how many of us can honestly say that they wouldn't jump at the opportunity to double their wages?
Players come and players go, the important thing is that we as fans, the lifeblood of the club, remain loyal and lend our unswerving support to the TEAM. Let5's not forget that we support the badge, not the player wearing it.

Surely the offer from Liverpool wasn't foreseeable? Choda's the only one I saw anywhere claiming it was possible, but since he thinks Keane only ranks slightly below Jesus, it's usually safe to discount his claims. I suppose the bitterness comes from the buying club being Liverpool, and the timing of the transfer, coming out of the blue not long after the new contract. If he was going to Madrid or Barca no one would bat an eyelid. 18m is an incredible fee. Even a lot of Spurs fans only rate around 10m.

Ive got a feeling liverpool have been sniffing round keano for some time now, im allways hearing phil thompson who still has contacts at liverpool allways mentioning his desire of seeing robbie play for liverpool.
It wouldn't surprise me if liverpool have been courting him for a while now, you don't pay 18million just off the bat.

Looking at the situation objectively, without emotion and hyperbole. It actually looks, on the face of it, to be a tremendous piece of business. Look at it this way, player A is 28 and has only started to fulfil his undeniable potential in the last couple of years, his club are offered nearly three times what they had paid for him and the player is offered over 30% increase in wages. The figures all add up to the point of, “if not now then when” for both the player and the “selling” club.
Let’s face it Keane is good, if we got Villa, Etto’o or a player of that ilk, it would be a step up. My only real concern is that the whole of Europe knows we’ll have cash to burn and a striker to buy. I get the feeling we may just keep hold of Berbasoff at least until January and have him and Bent as the point of a four man attack.

Well hopefully Liverpool will win **** all again, Rafa gets the sack, shit hits the fan and Spurs win some silverware.
Torres will be off to another club if that happens, Gerrard will start his whole "Chelsea would be club to consider moving to" thing again, and we'll be laughing so hard. Keane will be stuck with Voronin as a strike partner as a result, and will probs fvck off to rot in The Scottish league at Celtic.
I look forward to Keane being rotated the hell out of or made to play out on the wings like Benitez does to Gerrard sometimes, and then out will come his autobiography complaining about being played out of position all the time, or no ambition at Liverpool to win the Prem.
No point signing Villa/Eto'o, they'll just use us as stepping stones to get into one of the Top 4 teams. However i'm sure Ramos has a replacement lined up, som1 from the Spanish league he's had his eye on for a while but just hasn't said anything to avoid newspapers sprouting their usual bullshit. He's a smart man, so I trust he'll fix this new hole by the start of the season, and we'll be saying Robbie who?
WelshSpur82
28th July 2008, 01:57 PM
but if we do sign those kind of players, it could help us break the top 4!
Defoe8
28th July 2008, 02:02 PM
Do we take the big risk of signing them, and face up to the possibility of them just staying for one season and as soon as one of the top 4 come sniffing they'll be off.
Then again even if they stay for only 2 years, it might be sufficient to make a real challenge (no guarantee we'll break into it) for 4th spot or they could help us win the UEFA Cup and then hopefully the Super cup.
MarlowSpurs
28th July 2008, 02:09 PM
Personally I would take the risk, if it doesn't work out we could sell the player for a profit or if it does work out and we break into the top 4 they are more likely to stay. **** it take the risk

I still think Arshavin may come. His agent may have been trying to stoke up interest, but the fact remains they have not received a releastic bid from a 'big' club - well so it appears. Spurs will most probably produce a take it or leave it offer, to force his hand - could happen.

Reports now suggesting that we wont be bidding for Villa, that was always to good to be true!
If Berbatov goes, we should just get, if possible: Arshavin, Pavleoychenko and Bentley.
Berbatov doesn't go...Bentely and Arshavin.
Of course a centre back too wouldn't go a miss.
Oh yes and a decent defensive midfielder...ok I better stop or I'l be hear all day!

Oooh, you lying little toe-rag. My guy told me in May that Juade wanted to play one up front with three in support and bought Hutton 'cos he reminded him so much of Dani Alves and Cafu (I kid you not). Plus, anyone who saw us play in the last quarter of the season would have noticed that Berba played a withdrawn role, basically in preperation to play with one up this season. The idea was to see if Robbie could do a job up there.

Lets just sign a 20 million pound centre back and stop berba from leaving and ill be happy.
bent and berbs will get 40 goals between them in a 4-5-1 / 4-3-3formation and with a class centre back we prob wont need as many goals as i would like us to have more 1-0 wins or even 0-0 draws to progress to fourth position. MAn united and chelsea never concede many goals and that is why we cannot compare to them.
Although its depressing there is still hope in my mind, but only if berbatov stays & Arshavin for advanced winger duties please also.

Hmmm. That's a great deal for us. Would he have gone if Ramos thought he was key to his plans? Is buying Arshavin for 17m a sensible use of the money? It's very convenient that the complaint is shelved. One thing about Levy, he has a price for everything.
