They're awesome. Practically destroyed Serbia. On this showing, will gladly have Saviola in our line-ip as someone had suggested a couple of days ago when I doubted his adaptability to the EPL.

It helps that they have a coach who has a vague understanding of tactics and of the individual strengths of his players. Also, unlike some national managers, Peckerman does not pick the best players for each position, he picks the best players for the team.

They are an awesome side though, bear in mind that (I'm fairly sure this is correct) S & M haven't conceded three goals in a match for well over two years.

Still my champions elect.

These Serbs are thugs.

The Serbs have been quite awful though.

There's nothing messy about this guy Messi.

How is Senor Tevez doing? Has he got on yet? I'd love to see him at the Lane next season but I reckon he'd be great behind a front two rather playing off a big target man. Berbatov and Defoe/Keane upfront with Tevez probing behind, mmmmmmmm!

6-0

we dont want tevez, he's an ugly bugger. apparently chelsea wanted him though.

On that basis we are going to have to sell half the squad, starting with Carrick, oh hang on a minute.....lol.

Did the Argies even break sweat today or did it look like a training ground match?

They did most of the running in the first half. Got to 3-0 then in the second half they just coasted it. They're a team with players who can do very dangerous things if given space, and they worked lots of space.

Tevez scored a great individualistic goal. Nutmegged a defender, then sidestepped another before stroking it home with nonchalent ease.

The second goal was phenomenal, around 20+ passes.

Plus Crespo scored a goal that was disallowed for offside when he wasn't off.

What a pounding.

Mmmm, he's shit that bloke, terrible player, no talent at all. And as for Messi.......We've got Owen Hargreaves and Theo Walcott, I bet the Argies are bricking it. ;)

And he was wrongly yellow-carded for it.

Lot of wonderful individual performances, but don't forget that it's Riquelme who starts it all... His eye for passes is the best in todays football, and he never gives the ball away.. Terrific player.. Just the player we need...

Think this is the best Argentine team ever. They also have strength in depth.

Couldn't agree more mate, how about D'Allesandro, the poor man's Riquelme, I gather that Valencia are open to offers for Aimar as well. With a playmaker like eiher of these guys and the strikeforce we've got the prospect would be mouth-watering.

The Argies have got a quality defence as well, Ayala's performance against Cote D'Ivoire was magnificent, he's everything Rio Ferdinand will never be, dedicated, humble, aware, conciencious and as hard as nails.

I think the only weak link in the Argentine squad is their goalie and he's not the worst they've ever had either. I agree with CHinaman, this IS the best Argentine team I've ever seen, both in terms of individuals and as a squad, frightening!

Is he ours? Zokora wrongly booked; a wonder strike that struck the angle of the post and bar, and fed the ball to a team-mate who went on to score one of the best goals so far in the whole series.

@ Chelscum booked. Robben for diving, what else, and Drogba for kicking Van Der Saar.

If all goes well we should be playing the Argies in the Q/F i think. I tipped Riquelme at the start of the competion to be one of the players of the tornament. if we play them we have got to play either Carrick / Carragher in the holding role thus hopefully nullifiing the threat of him and cutting the service to there front two. if i was Eriksson i would proberly go for Carragher nothing against our own but i think he will do a better job on man marking Riquelme as he's more defensively minded maybe a bit negative but i can't see us stopping him if knowone plays the holding role.

From the early displays, will England go that far?

I always think that Beckham's inability to skin a left back means that his crosses are delivered too quickly from 18 - 25 yards out. The issue for me is that this dosn't give the supporting midfield players time to join the attack. Lennons jinking runs gave Lampard and Gerrard time to get in around the box. We need that width and ability to carry the ball to the bye line and cross it back from both wings so our attacks aren't so one dimentional. Downing isn't in the same class as Lennon as a winger but he's all we have.

other notes.
When I watch Peter Crouch play I cannot believe he is Englands starting centre forward. It's a bad dream. (Yeah I know he scored, but the half volley attempt said it all aaagh!)

Is Joe Cole going for the world record in step overs for one match?

Argentina are definately looking scarily good....I hope England get it together before they have to face them, should they get that far.
