considering his amazing renaissance last season and the talent the boy has in his boots, where do we all think he operates best?

and what formation do you think we should deploy around him to increase his effectiveness?

to be honest, i cant answer these questions as he stumps me on both, im just not sure.

I think robbie would do a great job playing behind two main strikers. feeding on all the loose balls and blasting them into the net. Also he and Defoe, contrary to opinion, play outstandingly well together.

ok, so with current personnel, what team and formation would you have?

Entirely agree. But one thing Keane need to do is to cut out some of his unnecessay touches on the ball and try to control it with his first touch or to play some first-time 1-2 passes.

I'm not sure, to play all 3 striker we need more tough tackling competent midfielders. Zokora (obviously would have to be bought) Carrick and Lennon would be good and Robbie acting as almost a box to box player, coming back and defending in the middle of the park, and pushing forward during attacks picking up anything loose....but Carrick needs to learn to own the midfield first. PLaying all three strikers isnt an option at the mo methinks. Carrick is too much of a bitch. And if our main 3 strikers can develop a good understanding then **** me I'd be excited.

That's what I've been saying through various postings spread over different threads that we may have a more adventurous and direct attacking formation if we sell Carrick and buy Zokora. Keane can either play as the small forward or in the hole linking with the front two, depending on what formation Jol chooses based on the opposition we face.

so if weve got keano behind berbatov&defoe, where would lennon play?

When Keane is playing as the link man, Lennon can still play and be given the role of foraging on either wing, and we can stll have a middle 2 in midfield of Zokora and Jenas/Taino.

thats the (good) problem we have...lots of excellent attacking players but how could they all fit into a certain system?

and what if we went and bought duff or a similar left winger? would we end up playing like brazil:

----------robbo------------
-----dawson--king---------
stalteri----jenas---------lee
--lennon---keane-----duff--
----berbatov--defoe--------

personally, i cant see it, we'd be too weak defensively.

It's obvious with the personnel we have, it is not really an option. What I'd like to see is a team like this:

Robinson

Salty upgrade Dawson King Lee upgrade

Lennon Jenas/ Taino/ Hudds Zokora

Keane

Berbatov Defoe

or,

Robinson

Salty upgrade Dawson King Lee upgrade

Lennon Jenas Zokora Babel

Berbatov Keane/ Defoe

We've got a new left back. Would prefer Babel to Duff as the former is much stronger on the ball.

-----------------Robbo

Chimbonda--Dawson--King--Assou-Ekkoto

----------------Zokora
Lennon--------------------------Duff
--------------Carrick/Jenas

---------Berbatov Keane/Defoe

How bout that then?!?! Arsescum would be shi**ing themselves.
Still could be a realistic line up against inter milan - bmj has promised big signings!!

I do not believe the new left-back has been bought to be thrust straight into the side, I believe that he and Lee will both be given a shot to cement the place to begin with.

You must be joking, Keane on the bench, he only manged to be our top scorer, our prolific striker Defoe managed less than ten.LOL

ok so take out keane's penalties and his tap in's and he got about 3. He had an ok season, missed some sitters too, and suddenly everyone thinks he's mustard. keane is not and never will be prolific at anything other than collecting wages.

Keane's tap-ins? Surely that means that you are pretty good at making a run. Pretty good at getting in behind the defnece and popping up right on the line.

yer but you should be as a striker, in fact you should be able to read the game whatever position you play. Sven being the exception. I just don't subscribe to this keano is god theory. sorry.

Well I don't see Defoe as the super prolific striker that some of you boast about, Jol dropped him because he was not performing, if he does not perform by Janaury translfer, he should goo, personally I would sell him now. He lost all my confidence , the way he reacted to being brought on as a substitute, he did not give his best, he sulked and never showed tha6t he was willing to give his best, we need players who play with passion, Defoe plays for his own benefit.
