In my opinion, I think all our commentators are absolutely pants. David Pleat being one of the worst. Mick McCarthy has one of the most annoying voices and Mark Lawrenson is just a jar.
Be interested to know who else is poor and who your favourite is because so far the best commentary I heard was from Martin Jol on Five Live during the Holland game.

I started watching with tv commentary, but listen to 5 live for every game now, even ITV when I mute my tv and put the radio, much prefer it. Also, Martin Jol was on 5 live again today for the Brazil match.

Try listening to the american stations (espn), they don't have a clue about the sport. Thankfully I speak spanish and listen to the broadcast on Mexican TV.

Mariella Fostrup, she may know nothing about the game but I could listen to her all day.

i do exactly the same. its great because the radio is about 2seconds ahead of the TV, which is fun.
i listened to MJ last night also, the guys tactical insight and knowledge is quite exceptional. im so proud he is our boss.

its John Motson i feel sorry for, having to watch every game with that mug lawro and pretend to laugh at his jokes. poor old motty

Lawro likes small children far too much

He must support Arsenal then. Maybe he and Arsene support each other.

I am starting a campaign to bring back barry davies - the man is a legend. jonathon pearce has a voice for radio and the motson/lawro combo is so depressing - I cant bear motson kissing his arse. Will David Pleat please get his facts right and pronounce player's names correctly.

Motson really winds me up. I hate him. He always states the bloody obvious, again and again and again.
Did you know that at england corner kicks, the centre halves (in this instance rio & terry)"come up from the back to add some arial height to the attack but should it break down they will have to get back quickly"
JOHNNY DOES, no shit sherlock.
johnny also knows that geoff hurst is the only person to score a hat trick at that famous world cup final that england won in 66
How many other world cup finals have england played in for gods sake !!!!!
It's all drivel that comes out of his mouth and dont even start about garth crooks. If he interviewed me and asked me dumb obvious questions like i was six year old that the teacher thought had done something wrong but wasn't sure. I'd smack him in the mouth.

Martin O'Neill has been very good in the studio. The guy talks so much sense. BBC is the lesser of two evils. Whenever I watch ITV they annoy me intensly.

O'Neill is good. Obviously too good to be England Manager.

I think the Beeb are winning hands down i like the idea of having great players along side the pundits like Leonardo & Desailly given there views. It whinds me up when someone like Hansen & Wright laugh at them trying to get there point across. Them two pricks would like the medals that them players have won.

Mick McCarthy has one of the most annoying voices
have got to agree but Mick Mcarthy came out with a classic during the Argentina v Serbia game
when Kezman fell over to get a free kick Mcarthys gem was " I would like to think he would put up a bit more of a fight if I was nicking his wallet" absolute classic

who dya reckon came up with the idea of having southgate as an analyst in this world cup.
it must have been one hell of a brainwave
you can just imagine it...
"hmmm who should we approach to partner tyldsley this summer at the WC?"
"we need someone whos got extensive knowledge of world football, wont come out with outrageous racist remarks a la big ron, has lots of prior TV experience, is fairly interesting and will provide good indepth analysis...I know, gareth southgate  "

i must say this world cup has been the worst for tv commentary. firstly no barry davies in sight. why? secondly lets take a closer look at the pundits :- david pleat, jim beglin, mark bright, gareth southgate, mick mccarthy, mark lawrenson, andy townsend, robbie earle - excuse me robbie ****ing earle?! the success that all of these football personalities have had can be counted on one hand. the point of good commentary is to know when to speak but pleat and bright wont shut the **** up. i don't remember either of these ****s being good enough to play at the world cup so why are they being paid to talk about something they know nothing about. pleat is a complete tosser - loses his way halfway through a sentence and keeps saying argentine when he should say argentina. he also wanted arsenal to win the cl final for british football - **** off you insensitive **** - you've been on the spurs payroll so you should know we never want to hear that garbage from your dinosaur mouth.

Mick McCarthy gets my vote for 'arsehole of the WC'. His performance during commentary of the Portugal-Iran game was one of the most biased I've heard. Ever. Frankly pathetic to be honest! Stick to getting Prem sides relegated Mick.

i am so ****ing tired of hearing every single commentator who refers to rebrovs misery in england and how much of a misfit postiga was at tottenham. yes we know we get it - both players are actually good - they just happened to leave an english club after an unhappy spell so stop ****ing going on about it.

I refuse point blank as stated before to listen to that idiot motson so i switched the audio to 5 live. I wish i hadn't bothered. What a prick that alan green is. When he dont like someone he dont like them. Fair enough he's entitled to his oppinion. Becks gets slated from start to finish, true he didn't play well and is probably over the hill but green didn't shut up till terry buthcher had a dig at him. Then he started on Lampard again not playing well but i lost my rag when he sarted creating about Robbo. He started ranting that Robbo had made no attempt to reach the ball when even a blind man could see that is was the best part over ten feet over the bar.

I actually think Alan Green is quite good, but he can go somewhat over the top at times.

possibly the worst commentator was steve claridge on UKTV G2 of whatever UKTV channel it was. he's terrible and so boring, McCarthy is also boring but at least he comes up with a few northern wisecracks at time's.

Like I said...McCarthy, arsehole of the WC. Out of the commentators anyway. It'l be ronaldo otherwise. Let's hope Makelele or Vieira acidentally break his legs in the semi's.
