View Full Version : Left Wing question - Robben?

I know Robben's name has been mentioned in regards to a solution to our left wing situation, but don't remember seeing a discussion on his pro's and con's. Having listened to MJ's comments on him on 5 live during the first half, would not be surprised if we at least made an attempt to get him. Jol basically said that he Holland were reliant on him playing. He has certainly had an outstanding first half. But has his disadvantages, i.e., wages and injuries.

What are everyone elses views?

I just can't see him leaving Chelski. An audacious bid would be nice though. I like the look of Sneijder too, plays for Ajax, so maybe Jol can use his connections and snap him up with Babel.

Always rated him.. And today he made the best individual performance of the WC so far...

Chelsea won't be so dumb to sell him.Sneijder didn't really impress; too many tip-taps to be effective in the EPL. Kuyt was out of his depth, so lucky we didn't spend 10+ millions on him. if we can sign Babel and Zokora, we'll do very well next season.

I also liked the look of Sneijder, think h would work for us, especially as we will be in Europe next year. He is an experienced european campaigner

Got to agree, Robben was outstanding today and unfortunatley perfomances
like that probably put him out of our reach at the moment. Let's hope the dumb swede gives Lennon a run soon as i'm sure he could do a similar job for
England.

the dumb swede will probably play hargreaves out wide. Robben is one of the best wide men in the world, but still doesn't create enough chances for me. he'd go to one of the spanish clubs if he left chelski. I like sneider also but he has a bad record with injuries and i think that will be enough to put us off a big bid. babel is one of the best up and coming wingers, who can also play both sides and up front so would be perfect for us.

Robben wouldn't leave, he has it easy at Chelsea. Would cost far too much anyway so better off looking at different options. Diving little git too. I don't like diving.

Did play well though.

If I'm completely honest, I don't think we stand a chance of getting him, but you never know. Who can honestly say they thought we would get Klinsmann or Davids (although these players were at the end of their careers). The lure of a fellow dutchman in charge could be something.

Hey, I can always dream can't I?

I suppose so but if we're in dreaming mode i'm thinking Ronaldinho on a free transfer for the left-wing.

we havent got a chance of signing Robben and i wouldnt like him as despite all his advantages, he's too gready and dives far too much for my liking. Wesley Sneider was exceptional and if, worst comes to worse, Carrick goes to Man-Ure, Sneider would be a great replacement. Also the Ivory Coast have a lot of decent looking players as well as Zokora who was fantastic against the Argies, the little number 3 looked brilliant and there were others but i cant remember who, they looked good.

I agree with most, signing Robben will be impossible. Chelsea woudn't sell to another EPL team period. Those posting they wouldn't welcome him are just plain disillusional. Robben can single handedly carry a team.

Think Duff is our most realistic chance of a decent left wing,be great to see
him combining with Keano.Only worry is his fitness record.

i think we'll be looking for someone who is more two footed than duff. i know he does play right side, but he is too left footed really. I think we'll want two wingers who can play both sides, lennon being one, and then we'll just play a more combative wing player if one gets injured.

Spur

You don't need to have two feet to swap over. Duff would be a good signing 0 so long as we aren't paying over the odds. If they want too much then Comolli and Jol can come up with a different player i'm sure.

Shame we missed out on Pedersen really, the summer he joined Blackburn Spurs pulled out of bidding because his team wanted too much.

i can see our new LW being a total surprise package whom we havent heard of or never considered. lets face it, who saw ekotto coming?

all these other names are high profile and over-priced. i think Ben Arfa will be a big possibility and maybe some dutch lad we've never heard of.

tell ya what though. castelen would be good!

Babel may be the best value. With his strength and tenacity, he can do a bit of defensive work too when needed. I don't think he'll cost as much as some of the big names mentioned.

Spur

Especially if we throw in Davids.

Chinaman

What a good idea. If we get Zokora as well, we won't be needing Davids.

robben showed what a good player he can be , but i thought he was too greedy and hung onto the ball too long at times . ill put that down to youth cos he is still a nipper despite looking as old as martin jol .
but cant see him leaving chelsea or spurs ruining their [pay structure for him.
