View Full Version : Make Woodgate Captain NOW

I hope the Management or someone in the club reads this forum because I think NOW is the time to make Woodgate Captain, he has been the only one this week apart from Ramos and Poyet to make any comment about how bad we were against Newcastle - granted some of the errors were down to him, but he has been immense since he joined and I think we can forgive him one bad game, but like several of his predecessors in that position who have been Captain he has Spurs in his heart ; even after this short time. So I say make Woody Captain now and let him shake up the team, I believe he can do as good a job on the field, as Ramos does off it.
King is regretably not consistent enough and I don't think Keano as much as we all love him is a natural Captain and Robinson as a keeper is out of position... Make Woody Captain Now!!!
Any thoughts?

I strongly believe woody should be second choice captain !

I'm happy with Keane - he's done a great job for us as vice captain. One of the few spurs players who actually gives a **** even though we have nothing to play for. His reaction when being subbed against city showed that.

I actually agree with you on this, would prefer a captain to be either centre half or in the middle of the midfield! I find that they are more involved in things. Woodgate woukld be a good choice IMO.

Does it matter who has a piece of string around there arm? There should be 11 captains on the field imo. I was allways captain untill i played for a team were the bosses son was the skipper and that never changed my game.
Making woody captain will not change anything.
Keanes a figure head of the club and someone who represents the fans bringing someone ahead of him would not do the club any good.
If anything make woody 3rd choice.

Would putting an arm band on woody make him a better player? No.
Also telling king and keano that this new bloke they brought in january is gonna captain the side.

Spot on here mate, we should have eleven hungry players on the field not eleven overpaid prima donnas ( well nearly eleven).

as rega5rds wether a captain is actually needed , well in cricket and rugby they are , often to the detriment of the individual i find , but in football nagh not really , you get natural leaders on the pitch wether thay have an armband or not .
but saying that , if we have one i agree that midfield or centerback is the more obvious influential position to be in , and as we dont have a strong natural leader in midfield as yet , then we might as well get woody , but keep king as club captain and on field captain if and when he plays

Have to agree with turkish we should have leaders all over the park...
As for your " King is not consistent enough " I'm pretty sure you meant he doesn't play enough otherwise you don't watch the games he does play.... he's a rock when he's on the pitch and rarely makes any errors. Guaranteed an 8/10 player rating every game he plays

Yes to confirm not consistent means he doesn't play enough, can't fault him on his efforts or performances he is a rock, it is just the pity that he isn't there all the time otherwise no argument he is a Great Captain - but in his place I suggested Woodgate only because he plays a similar role to King. I also concur that Robbie has been a great servant to the club, but I think positional wise he is not in the right place. That's all !
King was shown on football preview out here recently his 10 second goal still be being the fastest ever scored in the Premier League. Worth a look if you can find it.

As far as I know, this is how it stands as regards to captaincy:
1). Ledley King (Captain), unfortunately, the few times he features.
2). Robbie Keane (Vice Captain).
3). Paul Robinson
4). Jermain Jenas
