rooney has returned to germany after a scan so defoe will be returning home. feel a bit sorry for him really, must be hard to take having to leave after getting so close!

lets wrap him in cotton wool though now and keep liverpool etc. away!!

it will certainly halt liverpools transfer dealings as he'd a have cost a few mill for sure. Just delighted we won't be buying cisse. On the other hand liverpool have an even greater need for a quick striker now as it could hamper their start to the season. I think we have a chnace if overcoming liverpool next year if we complete our team.

As I understand, Liverpool were trying to put Cisse into any deal involving Defoe, which the Club have said no too. Cisse is still a good player, but i'd take Defoe everytime.

Seem to have read a report somewhere that Cisse has a broken foot or something to that effect.

Yep, Liverpool will be gutted! There goes a stack of cash they were planning on spending.

That bloke will never play in an international competition, remember last time?

Also, I think that his career could be over now, two broken legs in as many years - not alot of people can come back from that and carry on at top level.

Dave Mackay being an exception of course.

i think this whole saga has been handled so badly.

its always been about how wayne will be back and play in the WC and all the time JD is there hearing all this as a backup knowing he's just there to make up the numbers till the 'prodigal son' returns. its just bad form. not once has sven praised JD for his professionalism in this shambles. i knw if it were me, id be well pissed off.

i also think this will force JDs hand and he'll demand a move so that this doesnt happen again. he's been snubbed twice now for a major competition and this time in favour of some kid that doesnt look upto it at all. all this crap we keep hearing about TW but whats he done. Rooney had done more in his career at this stage and looked a far better player. nothing ive seen of TW has convinced me he's going to be amazing.

im just so angry that sven is taking risks with our best world cup team in decades. i hope mcclaren has more foresight!!!

Defoe's absense is a joke!!!

firstly if Owen gets injured i don't see Walcott as a natural
replacement, as far as i know, Rooney is not fit until at least the Sweaden
game so that leaves Walcott & Croutch, don't get me started!!!

I don't think the reason Defoe's omission was due to his lack of games....he did start something like 20odd last season in all, scoring something like7-8 goals i think.....Sven's simply taken a gamble and i just hope his gamble doesnt result in our JD blaming us and ****in off to Liverpool...the land where strikers really do turn into shite.

thats the problem, i think jd will blame us.

Even though i rate defoe and think he could have got his big break throug at almost every club I think he should thatnk us for giving him the chance in the first place and making him a great player... he shouldn't leave he should just do the same as keane did last season when he was sitting on the bench most of the time... He should keep his head down and be working hard on the traning pitch and in matches, then he will come back an even better player...

Well apparently he's been nothing but professional during his time with england camp last few weeks, maybe he will carry it on and he along with messrs Keane and Berbatov will blast their way into the CL next season! Probably learned a lot from the incident when Spam went down too!

you just know Owens gonna get booted by one of the ragga boys and miss a large chunk of the tourney then we'll see how much the england fans really love walcott when he ****s up time and again.
can you beleive the way those Manc retards cheered him when he came on recently

First and foremost, Defoe hasn't said anything about being unhappy. As he has a long-term contract, we're calling the shots. So if he really pushes for a move, and with Manure also interested as I read somewhere, they can start the bidding from 16 million. The fact that Cisse has broken his leg will make Liverpool go over the top to get Defoe to partner Ouch. This is what we might scream if the two ever play against us.

Defoe should have gone to the W.C., I believe he is the best English striker around, Owen is playing on memory and has been for a couple of years now he is also injury prone. We must get behind Defoe who must be gutted, not only by his exclusion from the W.C. but also by comments by SOME Spurs surpporters who think we should sell him, if he is no good why do so many Prem teams seem to want to buy him ( Man Utd,L/pool just two ). He will score lots of goals for some team I hope its us.

:D

Seriously, i would love to see us keep him. I believe he likes it at Spurs and think he will fight his way back to the first team, and to have Defoe and Keane fighting for the other striker's role (assuming Berby is first choice) will get the best out of both of them

I don't think we'll sell him. In fact we're still looking for our 4th striker.
