Belgian starlet Sven Verdonck is on his way to Tottenham from Genk.

The 18-year-old has long been regarded as one of Belgium's hottest prospects and Spurs now look set to seal his signature.

Verdonck was given permission to talk with Spurs earlier this month and he has already agreed terms on a four-year contract.

Tottenham and Genk expect to complete talks in the coming week and Verdonck will almost certainly be in North London for pre-season.

Verdonck, who has played just nine first team games with Genk, rejected a move to England earlier in his career when Aston Villa were one of a host of clubs who tried to land him - but at that point he decided to remain in Belgium.

"PSV [Eindhoven], Cologne, NAC Breda, Roda, Twente and Aston Villa were in contact, but I had no interest in a transfer as I was happy in Genk," he said.

Spurs have now, though, managed to persuade Verdonck that his future is best served across The Channel and his move should be sealed in the near future.

Lets hope he's better than the last belgian starlet we bought, jonathon Blondel.

Murphy just needs a decent pre-season under his belt. He has the quality and im sure he'll be a good squad player next season, especially against european teams as he has a fair amount of Euro experience.

I just hope this guy does something or is given a chance. I wouldn't like to see him in the reserves and then sold in a year! Blondel etc..........

apparently he's a midfielder (like we need more of those) although another wesbite i found said he was a defender, i'm guessing a def midfielder then. While i was looking on the net for info on him, some football manager (the game) results came up, and said he is a good prospect to buy young. Do you think comolli's earning his money or sitting in an office somewhere playing FM2006?

yeah i read somewhere that he was a defender but cant be sure, when there tha age they can still be molded into different positions though so we could yet be a midfielder

i just read on the teamtalk site he's a defender but only played 9 times this season because of a bad injury. Things have changed so much at spurs these days, we even have to buy in our own crocks.
