just a thought, where would we be now if we'd have kept Fredi Kanoute, well;

1. we wouldnt have panic bought the Ras-attack
2. we would have had premiership quality cover for Mido when he went off to the african cup of nations
3. we wouldnt have been disgracefully knocked out of both cups in the first round
4. more ariel ability than just Mido leading the line.
5. possibly further ahead of arsenal in the league

what do you all think of the sale of the Mali marksman to Sevilla

Is their a need to remind of a time when Fredi did play for us in the lower rounds of a cup game...the one where we lost to the Liverpool under-12s???

If i remember rightly, he had something to do with that disgraceful knockout...

losing to a liverpool youth team isnt as bad as losing to ruddy grimsby and if memory serves after that game Kanoute went on something of a scoring run, hitting some very important goals, something Rasiak never really comprehended

It was the quarter finals and we lost on pens - Kanoute handballed in the last minute to allow them to equalise.
You can hardly base his contribution to Spurs on his action that night

Feck Kanoute he was a whiny cnut, who the feck would pick Mali over France. He's a feckn joker, yeah he had some skill and fecked off to the African Nations too. I'm just sick off people continually bitchn about us needn him, feck kanoute feck atouba feck mendes & feck edman

If we only had Klinsman back. We did enough giving out about Freddie when he was with us. Forget about him

Kanoute on his day was untouchable. He only seemed to have his day about 4/5 times a season, which just isn't good enough. He would keep going out wide with the ball when it's meant to be him in the box.

Good player, not right for us.

JJ has hit the nail on the head.

Hold on there Keanoldinho, whilst i agree fcuk freddi, i will not hear a bad word against Timmy Atuoba, the man was a leg end! Every step over on our six yard line had me on my feet and my heart in my mouth, and who can forget that screamer against Newcastle! Great days!

Keanoldinho

My bad I forgot about his immense skills inside our 18 yard box what a ledge

I agree almost entirely with highlander but the only thing i would add to that is that defoe benefits from Kanoutes presence and scores more goals when Kanoute was in the side.
I do feel that if we had kept Kanoute we may well have been challenging for third place because when mido and keane find it difficult in some games we could have replaced both with kanoute/defoe to give us something different.
Anyway what has been done has been done. Move on and come on you spurs. we are making progress and if any one would have said we would be fourth in April i would have been very happy with that.

I would like to point out that we wouldn't have had cover for Mido during African Nations as he'd be representing Egypt, as Kanoute would also be representing Mali.

No, Kanoute was through with Mali after the crowd went after him and some other players after they lost.

With all our emotions lately, one do tend to forget some little detail, particularly if it is of no real consequence.

I still think Fredi would have done a job for us this season, his understanding with Robbie and defoe was almost telepathic. C'mon guys, we're talking about a player who has just won the UEFA cup and is his clubs most important striker ahead of an Argentine international and a Brazilian International. One only has to look at Fredi's record to see that he's not going to score 20 goals a season, but he'll lay 20 on a plate for his team mates.

Who had our top assists this year and with how many, I'm guessing Carrick with ten(ish) assists? This is where we need to improve next season(full backs aside), we need another creative hub who is going to try something different, I had hoped Murphy would fill this role but he has been very disappointing. I wonder if we could hijak the deal for D'Allesandro?

highlander

not only do they not assist enough but i feel we need to be scoring more from the midfield, apart from Jenas' 8 goals have been few and far between from the midfielders, this is one aspect which needs to be improved upon in the summer

Welsh Spur

Carrick definately has the ability to score goals, but he does such a great job in the holding role....I guess it restricts his getting forward though.

i think Lennon could and should score more if he gets a bit gready as he's always looking to set up the strikers. if he gets more ruthless then i think he could possibly get into double figures. does anyone know how good Lennon is with a free-kick??

Welsh Spur

I guess we'll find out next season....

spurs61

Agreed. Having said that, at the start off the season who would have predidicted that our three strikers would get less than 40 goals between them. I think the main problem was the lack of creativity, when Carrick isn't on his game who supplies the ammunition for the frontmen? Whilst we can hope that Lennon can fill that role it's not realistic to rely on a kid. If you look at all the top sides they all have at least one player who can change a game with a few pieces of magic. Man U have Ronaldo, Chelsea have Robben and Duff, Liverpool have Garcia and Gerrard and the Scum have Henry and Pires. OK, we've got Robbie but he relies on others getting the ball to him, there is no one in our squad who has this capacity and whislt Carrick showed flashes of this, particularly against Arsenal, it's not his natural game and detracts from his value to the team.

Welsh Spur

You are right, that problem is something to be addressed. I find it quite remarkable we stayed fourth for so long without the kind of players aforementioned, however, the final table doesn't lie and I think it would be hard to argue that we are definately, on paper or not, the 5th best English team. And rising.

Chinaman
12th May 2006, 06:19 PM
I know the table doesn't lie, but it shows really the lack of quality of those teams below us rather than us being a team with creativity.

highlander
12th May 2006, 07:47 PM
but as bolton have proved, creativity doesnt win games

AndyHarker
12th May 2006, 08:20 PM
I love spurs as much as the next but i think we must realise that alot of us staying in fourth for so long was down to other teams around us sliping up! Don't get me wrong we (over the season) deserved to finish 5th, but how many time's did all the results go our way when we droped stupid points! The difference between the top 2 or 3 is they force themselves into their position and then win the points to stay there!

We can do this next season, with a couple of quality signings and the ability to get the second goal to kill of a match... might be nice if we could beat one of the big teams also, 0-3 away at Arse's new stadium would be nice!

Chinaman
12th May 2006, 08:40 PM
I can't believe you, just 0-3? I'd want it to be 11-0 with everyone scoring, Robbo on a penalty to rub it in.

AndyHarker
12th May 2006, 08:49 PM
Come on be realistic, everyone scoring ???
Have you seen Lee's shot, feeble is not the word!

So realistically we are looking at 10-0!

Lee will only be on the bench by then.
