2-1 loss is best for us.

Let them think they don't have to bother with the 2nd leg...and we have an away goal....

Do it exactly how we did it in 2002...if we win this leg...we'll surely come a cropper in the 2nd leg.

Losing this match COULD be for the greater good.

i think a lot of guys aint looking at the facts, cos weve been so poor defensively,

we do create many chances, its for us to put them in the goal. on sat against reading we missed 4 sitters,

that is equal to 4 goals, if jj and keano sharpen up and concentrate fully, and berba,

Ginola's Son
8th January 2008, 11:02 AM
Ok, so you concede we'll concede....we'll need to score 4 away goals to stand a chance

Well if you expect the worst (and we usually do get the worst) anything else is a bonus!!

I actually think we'll go through in the end but it'll be the usual rollercoaster ride and until we sort out set pieces we're stuffed!! i think we'll get a draw at the hemeroides stadium

thay are very young some anyway, we also have a young side,

the difference is most of arse players have a lot more box,s ticked,

box,s that previosly our players werent even required to have in their lockers,

lol,NOW i think these necesities will be required on potential players cv,s

proof...hardly any of our supporters are ever confident on big games, verses mid-table games, even lower league teams, because we all know there are too many players being carried, or just waiting to make a mistake,

dont get me wrong every team has off days, but our players take it in turn...witch means to me, its down to their methods , methods and habits developed in training sessions, and not rectified, so the habits and lack of technical ability is tolerated and spreads..

WE CAN BEAT ARSE, EVEN WITH MISTAKES, WE HAVE TO TAKE OUR CHANCES AND DEFEND WELL AND KEEP, THE BALL WITH PERPOSE

Quitters, who spread doubt before a ball kicked. Re read back thru a few threads and the same names come to the fore before every 'Big' game.
It's all doom and gloom and the only satisfaction they get is from telling you " i told you so ".

As i recall most thought we were unlucky not to get a point at least at scumsville. Robbie hit the bar & missed a pen before they got their winner and that was 3 weeks ago. Yeh it's gonna be tough but i don't want to be given a trophy. We've got to earn it. We've got to believe.

Probably me.

It's all the 'beat your chest' bollocks that comes along. When KO comes along I'll be behind the boys 100%, but until then, I'll spout as much perceived negativity as I like. We've seen our team choke so much in the big games, that its hard to imagine anything else. Not being positive doesn't take away our credentials as a fan, its just years of hurt and toil showing itself. If we get through to the final I will cry tears of joy.

Looks like we're playing against:

Fabianski, J Hoyte, Senderos, Djourou, Traore, Diaby, Denilson, Diarra, Walcott, Eduardo, Bendtner. Note none of them are first choice when all their players are fit.
EDIT: Gilberto in for Diarra.

I imagine our only change is Boateng for Zokora, unless Rocha comes in for King.

Defoe8
9th January 2008, 01:56 AM
Keane just misses too many chances in a game, it'll take him 7/8 shots just to score 1 goal in a match.

We don't have a prolific goalscorer apart from Berba, no steel at all in the midfield (we've also got 2 carry the useless Jenas), Dawson is in awful form and Robbo needs to be playing in a lower division.

All in all we're ****ed, knowing our luck we'll play very well but conceed 2 goals in the last 5 mins.

Gino Ginelli
9th January 2008, 08:19 AM
I'll challenge that, by pointing out that Keane is much more prolific in the league than Berba, both this and last season. Also (I know I'm being pedantic) but if Robbie needs that many then some games he must get 14 shots in on goal, which the post match stats would never back up.

But in principle, I agree that all our players, especially the strikers, have a lack of clinicality in front of goal. And you'd expect a higher ratio from your top strikers.

diarra aint playing for them, he be left out cos he wana move clubs,

on keano....i dont think he got the 2 misses against the arse out of his head, think he took it real hard, cos he should of won us the game and psychologically trip the arse up

instead it psychologically tripped keano up as he missed a sitter in the next game and subsequently handed over penalty taking to berba.

he,ll see this as a chance to put things rite i hope, and if he flops again, i think it will effect his game badly.

The arse team is far from inexperienced. Everyone in the team has played either in the Premier League, Champions League or some sort of International level.

jrio
9th January 2008, 06:18 PM
In the Prem, "some sort of international level" covers about every player in the squads of the top 4. It's a second-string side and beating it will confer little credit on us, but losing further emphasises the massive gulf between the 2 clubs.

King was awesome in defence and even Lee in the second half played well. They were lucky to get their goal but tat seems to be the story of the season for us.

Hmm, same score as last season in this comp, but their goal had a large element of fortune to say the least. With the chances we had we should have expected to score a couple. King looked imperious but Berb seemed to set himself on cruise control in the second half. Cerny did nothing wrong and looked a lot more reliable than Robbo, who I can't see coming back on Saturday. Let's face it, in the second half Arse had one solid chance and fluked it.

same old ,same old. the fact we only got one away goal will haunt us in extra time at WHL when it finishes 2-2 and scum go thru on away goals

PS i think that rule is utter bollox heres why

We get 1 1/2 hours to score away goals, Arsenal get two hours including extra time (which is required before away goals come into it) to score away goals. Now i know if it was the other way round i might not be moaning but either way thats well wrong and is a ridiculous ruling.

So if after 90 mins at WHL its 0-0 we should have won on away goals after 90 mins at each ground , but o no it will go to extra time,if its 1-1 all is level but Arsenal will then get an extra 30 minutes to score an away goal . by the same token if its 2-2 after 90 then we should be out of it, not have an extra 30 minutes to win it .

Being away first is meant to be an advantage. That's what you hope for in Europe where away goals count double in normal time. There's an error in that side - I managed to rub out Alialidere and then show Diaby as sent to Boro(as the former was).

That was last season's second string, minus Toure and Fabregas. So Arsenal have a stronger side and squad than last season? The principle is the same. They played the same standard of side.

Since we're playing in England, the obvious alternative would be immediate penalties and no ET. Last year's defeat would have been shorter, and a sort of moral victory. Is that what you want, mjb? I think he wants a huge cake only he's allowed to eat. ;)

i think no ET or penalties just use the away goal rule immediately after the 90. meaning if we get a 0-0 after 90 in the 2nd leg (it aint gonna happen!!) we should go thru

From early on, when in doubt he booted it out. None of the defenders looked vulnerable, albeit against a near reserve side, and King, one slip apart, looked majestic. Despite his stellar skills, I can be sanguine about Berb leaving. King leaving would really tear me in two.

I have sort of mixed emotions.

We played fantastic- granted it was against the so called '2nd string' scum squad.

Im more than happy that we didnt get humilliated... Would you guys take a 1-1 at the emershits with them playing 'kids'? or take a 2-1 defeat against their normal team? Quite frankly.. twice in a month we SHOULD have won against Arsenal- and for that im happy...

Besides if we won 2nite i could see us cocking it all up at WHL.. and THAT would be embarrasing. So now its a level playing field again its back to square one.

I was pleased with steed- even though he cocked a couple of sitters up; mind less said about defoe miss the better!

Also; did u notice how shit their fans were? i was in the pub and i could hear the yids over them scum 90% of the time ;D

we definitely need a new centre half and **** off rocha etc. theres been talk off shipping off chimbo, hope that aint true. we need a new left back aswell to be honest. a solid defensive lb. i cant see bale making it as a defender but what do i know, aint seen a lot of him in action! hes always bloody crocked!

bale is phenominal.. trouble is i think he lacks the tackle (excuse the pun)

ive never been a real big fan of lee, he does the job.. nothing outstanding or noticable.. just gets on with his job i suppose.

Would like to have seen urby here; but hes an easily influenced **** so **** him.

As far as chimbo goes- i DO like him and rate him as a footballer, but you can tell he is money driven.. if a club offered him a bigger salary than spurs.. no matter where- he would take it. I just dont like his lack of loyalty.

Also; unfortunately i havent seen much of rocha; i dont think any of us have... hes not bad; not top draw but more of a fringe backup player.

Since we're playing in England, the obvious alternative would be immediate penalties and no ET. Last year's defeat would have been shorter, and a sort of moral victory. Is that what you want, mjb? I think he wants a huge cake only he's allowed to eat. ;)

Personally what i'd like to see is football.

If it's a draw and away goals are equal then i'd like to see football. Pure football. If it takes three weeks then so be it. But I want to see the ball hit the back of the net, maybe golden goal style, maybe not, maybe 'halves' of 15 minutes, but as many 'halves' as it takes. I'm no longer calling them 'halves', they can be called periods. No i'm not American.

It's something i've never seen happen, and i'd like to see it.

No pens, maybe no away goals, although that would discourage those away from home, just football.

That used to happen. Arsenal and Liverpool had 3 replays in the 1980 FA semi before there was a result. You might be surprised to learn that the one thing no one was calling for was more football.

I predict you will be ending up in America. ;)

we were immense , played a good game defensively, you could see by kings interview he was upset about their goal, it was his only lapse,

for me lee done well, he has been our only left sided player all season, and for a few seasons now, so he under pressure, and he has done well,
how many other prem teams boast 1 left back. who aint left footed

o,hara did really well, as 1st haft he made a few big mistakes, so credit to the youngman.

lennon done ok, but needs to be more selfish and intent on scoring, he had a few chances where he made wrong passes.

BERBA was ,well he owned the pitch ...arse had no answer to him ,his control was sublime, made us play and controlled the pace of the game, for periods

in contrast keano was on the edge of the game and has been for last 2/3 games,i think the pen miss hit his confidence, and subsiquently he hasnt had a decent effort on goal, he had a few opertunities and was short of pace for 1, even tho he had yds on last defender, the other he mised target from 12yrds,

jd should of scored , clear sitter,as were malbranch chance.

mal did recover and play ok. jj did ok, as did chimbonda, he was really good covering well,

daws, his distribution is woefull and he always pass back to keeper who give posesion back to other team, needs to compose himself, stop rushing the pass, and stop diving in from behind, instead he should take up good position and have good body shape.

I COULDNT ASK FOR MORE, WE PLAYED AND THE GAME IN BALANCE, MAYBE SUITS US AS IF WE WERE IN LEAD IT MIGHT BRING IN COMPLACENCY....

Same in Europe, mjb. You finish equal after 90 mins from each of 2 legs and the away team in the 2nd leg has an extra 30 to get an away goal. What the hell are you asking for?
no, its not the same as in Europe. In Europe away goals count after 90 minutes ,so each team has 90 minutes to score their away goals , then theres extra time if the away goals are the same. ie first leg 1-1 2nd leg 0-0 all over after 90 minutes first leg away team go thru on away goal both team having had 90 minutes to score there away goals.

Whereas in carling cup irrespective of the away goals sitauation after 90 minutes theres extra time and THEN away goals come into reckoning. ie could be 1-1 then 0-0 and still be extra time . in extra time it could end 2-2 so the 2nd leg away team go thru having had an extra 30 minutes to score their away goals, after 90 the first leg away team would have gone thru under the Euro rules.

First off great game, trully the first NLD I recall enjoying watching for years, unlucky but then that's what happens if you rely on the Andy Cole of his generation to knock in an easy chance (that's why you can go JD!). Secondly this 2nd string/kids thing is realy pissing me off, can we just confirm IT'S MEDIA GENEREATED BULLSHIT LAPPED UP BY MORONS! let's look at the Scum players on the pitch last night;

Fabianski - full international, Hoyte - u21, Senderos - full international, Djourou - full international, Traore - u21 (gonna be a star), Walcott - full international, Denilson - u21 (gonna be a star), Gilberto Silva - full international, Diaby - full international, Van Persie - full international, Bendtner - full international, Eduardo - full international, Sagna - full international.

Mah, whilst it's not as strong as the Scum's 1st team it is FAR from mediocre, that is a phrase to be applied to West Ham's 1st team. This Scum side would and will turn over many sides, 10 full internationals just shows what a load of happy horseshit the media talk, the worst part is people believe it.

BTW; Although Robbie was not on fire tonight we would not have played as well without him, his harrying of the backline was top class, the guy must have a bicycle pump for lungs, JJ as well great commitment to the cause. As for Ledley, jesus wept the man is trully the best defender in the country bar none IMO three steps up from Terry and two up from JarJar, is there anything he can't do (apart from stay fit)?

Only one of those players in the squad played in the last reserve game, and according to the official site only 4 have featured at all this season for the ressies. That was two players on the bench that didn't get on, one that got on for 30 seconds and Armand Traore.

Also it was pointed out to me last night that Arsenal's wage budget goes to 90mil, whilst ours is at 45mil, so you'd expect them to have two teams capable of beating us anyway!

Arsenal didn't play bad, we made them play bad.

We closed down their players quickly, chased down every ball and wern't afraid to get stuck in and thus we didn't allow them to play their usual passing game.

Yes we sould have won, but i'm delighted with a draw away from home, considering how bad our defence has been this season.

Malbranque and Lennon were excellent on the wings, Berba held the ball up well upfront and Cerny was solid. Special praise has to be given to Ledders, my god have we missed him, he was a brick wall at the back yesterday and led the team like a general, hell he even made Dawson look good.

Bring on the 2nd leg!!

Oh and don't forget when we did play Arsenal's full team this season at The New Library, we played them off the pitch and if Keaneo hadn't missed the penalty we'd have won or at least got a draw!! That was without Ledley King as well!!

But if they're completely level in Europe - if both legs ended one each - the away team in the second leg then has an extra 30 minutes to get an away goal. What you're asking for is away goals to count after FT when the clubs are all playing in the same country. The away goals after ET is just a way to avoid the lottery of penalties.

Describing Walcott as "full international" just because he came on as sub for 20 mins in a friendly is rather misleading. You're rating him on the same level as Senderos and Djourou(first choice CBs for Switzerland), VP(regular starter for Holland) and Gilberto, who's won the WC.

Shit, I hoped no one would pick up on that. Trust you to pick holes! :D

Even given the fact that Walnut is not an international regular, the fact remains that 90% of those Scum players would make 90% of EPL first teams and thus leaves the notion that they are "reserves" and "2nd string" rather redundant, indeed 2nd string implies 2nd rate which they are patently not.

It's just the media doing what they always do and jumping on their own bandwagon, I reckon if one publishes a story stating "Jol is a martian intent on wiping out the human race" then the rest of them will publish or espouse similar stories on the basis they don't want to be last to "break the story to our readers/viewers".

In point of fact, in O'Hara we had a player (who dominated the midfield) with less experience than any of the Goons, something the media will be most reluctant to point out.

Anyone else notice?

Picky, picky. Perhaps it was a good ball to the scum player. Perhaps our midfielder in front of Lee didn't do his job and exposed him and Ledders then did his job by covering Lee.
Defending as a unit is what it's about. Something we aint done for a while.
Go watch some Bobby Moore vids. Pace aint everything

Playing your 'b' team away at Blackburn or at the saftey of home to your bitterist rival's is one thing.
