Portsmouth are flying at the moment, being away doesn't help, our defence problems and injuries, the best we can do is a score draw, 2-2.

Their defence is old(ish) and slow, much like Boros was and we should play bent and Defoe from the start with Hudd in for Zok and let them worry about us , force Krancjer back defending and hit Muntari hard in the opening exchanges.
i can see it being a high scoring game 2-3 3-4 hopefully in our favour, just hope we dont try to just stop them playing.

Surely that should read, Stop them from playing, closing them down and counter attack when possible.

Totally agree I'm really not confident about this game either, Pompey are strong , quick, and inform with a very tight defence and creative battling midfield. For us to get anything out of this game we're going to have to show alot of heart and fight for 90+ minutes. Our CMers better show up for this game or we're going to get battered. A 451 might not be a bad idea with Zokora holding and JJ with KPB pushing forward to support Berbatov.

They can be BEAT!
We have to go there with belief we can beat them. Play same team as against city. Lennon will be to keep that kranjac quiet so he will need to attack and give him something to think about.
Do not play huddlestone muntari will have a field day with him. Play 442 and just attack and defend as a team.
A draw would be a great result but i got a funny feeling we are gonna cause an upset?:D
2.1.......berba and lennon for us and distan for them.

No problem if we beat pompey you're the man but I really have my doubts about this one. JJ needs to step up big time and maybe a 451 with KPB in there to would help us win the midfield battle and the game.

Atleast someone is positive, and I've got a feeling we'll win too... i'm going for 3 1 to Spurs... (But Boateng and Defoe have to start)
When we were expected to get a hammering of Liverpool... We ended up taking the lead against them... Even when we were expected to not win against city last weekend... We won 2 1...
I think we are gonna get a bit of a shock on Saturday :D

To quote Bill Paxton;
"GAME OVER MAN! GAME OVER!! Aww we're ****ed, we're ****ed man!!"
...etc etc.
Pretty much depends on the usual. Can Daws / Kaboul keep their concentration for 90+ mins? Can Jenas go 5 minutes without giving the ball away? Will Chimbo stop thinking he can showboat and do something constructive? Can Lennon clear the first man with a cross? Will Bent do something? And can Berba be arsed today?
All this and more from your next episode of THFC Soap!

As strange as it sounds this game is either going to be very close and low scoring or one team is going to get a hammering. Neither team seem to be able to find a middle ground between wonderful and rubbish. I'm sure it will be a good game to watch and a cracking atmosphere but those are the only predictions I'd be confident in making.
Saying that, 3-1 to Pompey!

I think Kaboul has been told to concentrate on defending, and when he does that he's good, as he has all the attributes required for a centre-back.Zokora was great too today, but it was our overall play that gave me optimism for the future.KPB and JJ were good in midfield, and i think Lennon is getting that zip back into his game. The Ramos influence is there. When we were 1 up we still pressed for another goal, and the defending from set-pieces has improved considerably. The funny thing is the spammers lost and we are only 4 points behind them, and after all the shit their scum fans have been giving us this season!.

I've wanted to see Boateng and JJ together in CM for awhile and they were great today. Boateng should feature alot more for us this season now after his performance today. O'Hara coming off the bench was class too and he's got a good left peg the kid impressed me alot today. We've knocked off Citeh and Pompey now picking up 6 points most of us on here only figured we'd get 1 or 2 out of them games and we out played both of them. An absolutely smashing performance. Starting at the back we were really solid. The defending was no nonsense. When there was any doubt we cleared our lines. Very refreshing.
And our marking and work rate was different class.
Kaboul was very good again on the back of the City game. Great to see, we all know he has the talent.
And the entire midfield was a well oiled machine with good functioning parts. Jenas is fast becoming a player I like. He has been mostly excellent under Ramos. Today all aspects of his game were spot on. It's becoming a regular thing!
Boeteng is a strong talented player. I like him. And I thought Steed was terrific today! I am delighted with the change in him too. He has extra dimensions to his game now and is becoming a threat. I was looking forward to him getting the ball today.
Berba looks interested in working a bit and held it up really well. Bent worked hard and Defoe was a very lively sub. And young O'Hara came on and was impressive.
All in all it was a superb performance away against a very good team. I tempted to say that's the best performance we've had in years!
We dominated and knocked it about great. And when we went ahead we just held onto it. They were chasing shadows. YES! That is what good sides do. And we patiently built a few more chances. THAT is how you kill a game. Three cheers for Ramos. That performance had the fingerprints of a top coach all over it.
We had the quality in the coaching, tactics and on the field to really outclass Pompey at Fratton Park. The only team to manage that this season. I'm really bouyed by the manner of the victory. We really looked like a class side. Ramos is doing a great job and will continue to.

It looks as though the week of uninterupted training really did make a lot of difference. JR's tactics are starting to show through.
Wouldnt get too excited yet, been there and done that many times over the years but if they carry on learning a 10-15 game unbeaten run is not beyond them.
A top 5 place possible again?

Berba looks interested in working a bit and held it up really well.
It's noticeable the amount of chasing back he now does.Robbo has mentioned post-match, that we are "defending as a team", and i think that makes a hell of a difference.

Thats whats football all about in my opinion a young lad coming on playing for his boyhood club! Jol did that at the start of his reign with dean marney ect but in the end felt he couldn't afford too.
He would of thought it a clean sheet with kaboul and zokora at the back?

Well I would because when you see a good manager, a talented team and money to spend it points to a good future.
Top five is still a long shot I feel. It's 15 points away and City are well marshalled, have some class and will spend again. 6th could be possible though.

I went to the game today and I have to say I was impressed with KPB. I cant remember Robbo having to save any shots.
I was a Pompey VIP today and I think the Pompey players minds were more on their xmas party in Paris tonight, so I dont think we should get carried away with the victory but it was pleasing.

The way Ramos has turned our season around has been simply fantastic. He has been left to get on with the job in his way, and has made so many changes that have been beneficial to the team. Today, in my opinion, was our most important win of the season. No offense to Jol, I love the guy, but his Spurs team would have been totally and completely out-muscled by that Portsmouth team, but Ramos has made us stronger and less likely to be bullied about by physical teams. Overall I've been very impressed with the team and the manager, and we will see just how far we've come when we're up against a top 4 team away next week.

He travelled to Pompey to play, but was left out because he picked up a knock yesterday apparently...
I'd love it if he came on at some point during the derby, but the most important thing is that he is fit. If it means keeping him out for another month then so be it, but if he comes back and gets injured it will only be very bad news.

With continual injury problems to the CBs and LBs, plus Zokora being unavailable from Jan on, it would be far too great a risk.
From a Pompey fan on another forum: "...spurs were the best i've seen at Pompey in the premiership. Had practically the whole end, bar one block. Kept singing and clapping regularly.

just like to say that whilst many have been deriding Kaboul ,me and a handful have been saying its Daws thats the problem, well i know its only one game but..... it was away to one of the in form teams of the moment.
Still not happy with Berbs tho.

Im would just be happy with going into next year with a strong squad and in europe. Qualifying by the league could be a big ask but a trophy could look possible.:)
But if not im not that bothered as its unrealistic to ask so much of Ramos and the team.
Im taking one game as it comes i do feel we could win at citeh just because teams with 100% records at home generally lose in a cup at home. And i feel they might be due a lose at home anyway?
Would be nice to get a result at the scum as long as we put in a good perormance than i would be happy.

I really don't care how we get Euro footy for next season I just hope we get it. The City cup game is a hard one to call but if we play like we did yesterday then we can beat anyone. I'd take a lose against City for a win against the gooners in a heart beat. Truthfully I don't care about the city game I just want to beat the gooners and knock them off the top of the league.

Absolutely delighted with that performance after watching football first. The fact that Ramos had a clear week to work with the players paid dividends. KPB and Zokora were immense and we played as a team! Best performance this season...no question. Ramos, if he wants to stay, will be at this club for a long time I imagine...anyway just thrilled with that performace.

A quality result and an even better perfomance. The best part for me is the evidence that Ramos is not afraid to make bold desicions. To put Zokora and Kaboul at centre back should have been suicidal, instead it was inspired. How many of us would have preferred to see Taarabt on the bench in place of O'Hara, another brave move from Juande. And how many of us would look at the midfield and think, "I know, I'm going to play JJ and Boateng and they will boss the midfield all game" (a midfield which contained Muntari, Boupa Diop, Mendes and Davies)?

I think getting our team and the individuals within that doing the right things is actually most important for us right now. And I felt it was the right team he picked. Kaboul was his only natural cb option and Zok has done okay back there. And now that young Younes is concentrating on defending and gaining some confidence back he is doing well.
Plus although he had an awful spell previous to the last two games I thought Dawson was equally bad during that time and didn't help him at all. Kaboul is the youngster and new to this league so I feel he was more vulnerable to the more obvious mistakes. I reckon Kaboul is far more talented and will be the better player, although perhaps not immediately.
I'd also pick Boeteng and JJ every day of the week at present over the Hudd until he is fit enough. I think a bench role is suited to him for the time being.
We bossed the game simply because our players had the foundation of sound principles and the ability to do it! I've always said that I feel the midfielders have a lot more ability than was being shown due to bad tactics and coaching. That's not to say we won't need reinforcement, but the midfield was terrific on Saturday and has improved a great deal under Juande. It is now starting to express a truer reflection of the personal that comprises it.

Was genuinely concerned before this game. But I'll echo Jackdaws observations about the full week of training. Especially defending, where after a few iffy looking occasions, the back four had a good understanding, covered each other, and marked intelligently.
I've been saying it since the start of the season. JJ is turning it on, and especially under Ramos, is finally becoming the drumbeat of the team, as Jol once infamously claimed. He might've been on about his hope for JJ. I'm still not 100% convinced by KPB. He's definately lively, and isn't shy of the ball or a tackle. But he seems barely under control somehow, like his brian and enthusiasm gets about 5 steps ahead of him. If he'd kept his composure he would've scored in the first half; but I'm nitpicking. No doubt after his first season (and remember he's only had a few games) he'll show us what he can really do.
Bent is still ineffective, and Defoe seems livelier to me. But thank god for Berba scoring. PLEASE let be the catalyst for him, so he can kick on and be the awesomeness that he was last year. BTW, Ref's really nark me off for booking players who celebrate with their fans. He was showing how much they mean't to him, that it was for them, and the ref thinks that's wrong. Dick.
Looking ahead, I'm very glad we won those last two games. A month ago we'd have lost them, and now we've just consecutively beaten two of the most in form clubs in the league. Those 6 points will be invaluable, as I'll chalk the North London Derby as 3 points lost I'm afraid.
All in all, I'm all a cheery right now. I just need S****horpe to get out of that relegation scrap!

Boateng has had limited game time so far but in my opinion he's done nothing so far to show that he's going to be a top player. He looks enthusiastic and seems to cover a lot of ground but so far he's looked very average.

That seems a fair comment to me, although Boateng does lend physical presence to the midfield, his quality of passing remains somewhat hit and miss.

I like the look of what he has done given he's new to the prem. The thing that caught my eye is that he has confidence, steel, good awareness of people around him, has a nice touch and passes it well.
I feel when he gets going he could be a top player, but it is early.
